[SPOILERS for Stranger Things season 1 ahead.]–
Netflix’s original TV series Stranger Things is easily one of the surprise success stories of summer 2016. Created by The Duffer Brothers, the 1980s-set adventure is a blend of science fiction, fantasy, horror and coming of age story that creates an imaginative universe inspired by the ’80s works of such storytellers as Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter and Stephen King (among others). It’s also a universe that many viewers would be more than happy to revisit again, especially after season 1 ended by leaving a few tantalizing plot threads dangling to be picked up in a subsequent season(s).
The Duffer Brothers have since made it clear that they have every intention of moving forward with Stranger Things season 2 and would ultimately like to tell many more stories based around the young heroes of the show’s first season. It remains to be seen whether or not that happens down the line, but for now we can confirm that the show will live on for at least one more season.
Netflix has now officially renewed Stranger Things for a second season, as the above announcement video confirms. Stranger Things season 2 will also have one more episode than season 1 did (9 in total) and will arrive in the summer of 2017. The above video reveals that the season 2 episodes will be titled “Madmax”, “The Boy Who Came Back To Life”, “The Pumpkin Patch”, “The Palace”, “The Storm”, “The Pollywog”, “The Secret Cabin”, “The Brain” and “The Lost Brother”.

Stranger Things season 1 has already become one of Netflix’s most popular original series, as the online chatter surrounding the series is a testament to. Although the initial season largely works as a standalone narrative, there are indeed many questions leftover from its storyline that can and no doubt will be addressed in season 2, while the show’s world itself is ripe for expansion. Some of the season 2 episode titles likewise seem to reference key events from the first season; for example, ‘The Boy Who Came Back To Life” could well be a reference to Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) being rescued from the Upside-Down in the season 1 finale. It could also be a nod to another young child who has, in some sense, returned from the dead when season 2 begins, of course.
Regardless, the hope now is that the Stranger Things sandbox will continue to be as much fun to play in during future seasons as it was over the course of its first eight episodes. Hopefully, Stranger Things season 2 in particular will both shed light on certain things from season 1 – like, is the lovable super-powered Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and/or the sinister Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) still alive in some form (or rather, when it comes to Eleven especially, in some place) – at the same time that it takes viewers on another exciting, funny, spooky and touching adventure through the series’ retro cinema-influenced vision of ’80s America.

[h=1]Stranger Things Season 2 to Introduce Teenage Tomboy Skater[/h]

The first season of Netflix’s original series, Stranger Things, won over viewers with its mix of ’80s nostalgia, obvious inspiration from Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, and Stephen King, as well as its kid-focused adventure in the vein of ET and The Goonies. Season 1 of Stranger Things followed the town of Hawkins, Indiana, as they searched for the missing Will Byers – led by Chief Hopper (David Harbour) and Will’s mother Joyce (Winona Ryder). Meanwhile, Will’s friends Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) met a mysterious girl named Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).
The series became one of Netflix’s most popular series, so the recent announcement that the streaming service had renewed Stranger Things for season 2 came as little surprise. The video announcement also revealed season 2 will pick up in the fall of 1984 – roughly a year after season 1 – and unveiled all nine of the episode titles. Now, a new casting report for Stranger Things may offer insight into the season 2 premiere episode title.
TVLine is reporting Stranger Things creators/showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer will be introducing three new characters, including a 12-14 year-old female by the name of Max who is “tough and confident” and whose “appearance, behavior, and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era.” Additionally, rather than follow the trend at the time of riding bicycles, Max skateboards as her primary mode of transportation.

As for the other two characters, one is Max’s older brother Billy, who drives a Camaro and is “very muscular and hyper-confident.” The second is a “thirtysomething gender-neutral” character named Roman who “suffered a great loss at an early age and has been seeking revenge ever since.” All three characters are expected to be series regulars in season 2, which is set to premiere in 2017.
The casting of Max – if that is character’s name in season 2 rather than a placeholder used for casting notices – likely ties into the season 2 premiere, which is titled ‘Madmax’ according to the recently revealed announcement video. It’s possibly Max will become a part of Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Will’s friend group – potentially filling the void left by Eleven, who seemingly disappeared or died at the end of season 1.
According to Ross Duffer, it’s still unclear whether Eleven will return for season 2; he said, “We don’t know about Eleven. We leave that up in the air.” But, whether he’s referring to the season 1 finale (which did include a hint that Eleven may still be alive somewhere) or season 2 remains to be seen. Still, fans will likely be excited as the Duffer brothers move forward with the process of creating season 2 since it means more episodes of Stranger Things are on the way.

[h=1]Stranger Things Season 2 May Have Already Begun Filming[/h]

When Netflix used a teaser trailer to announce that Stranger Things has been renewed for a second season earlier this summer, the streaming conglomerate effectively broke the Internet. The Netflix original series, which follows residents of a small Indiana town after an otherworldly monster steals several of its inhabitants, is a reverent homage to 1980s sci-fi that immediately garnered fan attention. Since its July premier, the eight-episode series has gone on to become one of Netflix’s most highly-rated programs, so it’s no surprise that the residents of Hawkins will be back for a nine-episode season next year.
Though we already know season 2 will begin filming in Atlanta from about October to April, thanks to Screen Crush, it seems that crew is eager to get a jump on things — because a fan spotted production trailers going up outside a key set location.
Reddit user hollygorock took to r/StrangerThings to post pictures from outside the Hawkins National Laboratory set. You can check out their full photo gallery HERE.

We do want to clarify that this is all in the spirit of speculation, and we have received no confirmation that season 2 filming is under way. Though the building pictured is, in fact, the Emory University-owned Georgia Mental Health Institute where the series’ Hawkins Lab scenes are filmed, we cannot confirm that these pictures were taken recently – or that they are related to Stranger Things, since other productions shoot at the same location.
Still, it’s always fun to discuss fan theories, which is exactly what Redditors got down to once these posts went up. Some users used this bit of info to start in on theories as to where else the series will film (since we know season 2 will partially take place away from Hawkins), as well as to speculate on recent cast member social media activity. Fans are especially interested in the whereabouts of young star Millie Bobby Brown, since we still don’t know what’s up with her character Eleven, or whether we’ll see her in season 2.
While we certainly hope that these photos mean “filming in October” now means “filming immediately on October 1st,” we can make no promises to our fellow rabid fans. Still, with behind-the-scenes news about Stranger Things leaving us with as many questions as the fictional show itself, it’s becoming part of the fun to look into news like this, and cross our fingers that we’ll see more of Hawkins and the Upside Down ASAP.

[h=1]Stranger Things Season 2 Begins Production; Eleven’s Return Confirmed[/h]

This summer, Netflix debuted Matt and Ross Duffer’s send-up to ’80s sci-fi flicks and kid-focused adventures, Stranger Things, to critical acclaim and a massively positive response from TV fans. The first season followed the residents of Hawkins, Indiana in the fall of 1983 after a local boy — Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) — disappeared. While his mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) searched for answers, his friends discovered he was taken by a monster they named the Demogorgon to an alternate universe they called the Upside Down. Additionally, they discovered a girl named Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) linked to both the Demogorgon and the Upside Down who possessed telekinetic powers.
The season 1 finale of Stranger Things left plenty of story threads open, causing fans to wonder whether Netflix would grant the Duffer brothers’ series a second season — and what that would entail. Netflix announced season 2 of Stranger Things late in the summer, but Matt and Ross Duffer revealed they had begun working on it even before the debut of season 1 on Netflix. Now, a new photo of the Stranger Things cast reveals who will return and announces production has begun on season 2.

The official Stranger Things Twitter account posted an upside down photo from the table read for season 2, along with the additionally inverted caption: “Back in production, see you next year.” The photo includes returning cast members Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Schnapp, Brown, Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), and Joe Keery (Steve Harrington). New cast members Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery — who will play step siblings Max and Billy, respectively — also appear. Take a look at the tweet and photo:

Season 1 of Stranger Things left plenty to be explored in subsequent seasons, including the effects that living in the Upside Down for a week would have on Will — teased in the finale by him coughing up a slug creature from the alternate dimension. However, one of the bigger mysteries was the fate of Eleven, who disappeared when she destroyed the Demogorgon, though Chief Hopper seemed to have hope she was still alive somewhere. It was recently reported Brown was expected to return for Stranger Things season 2, but Netflix wouldn’t confirm it at the time; we can now take this photo as confirmation, though it remains to be seen how or when Eleven will return to Hawkins.
Furthermore, although fan-favorite season 1 character Barb (Shannon Purser) has already been confirmed by the Duffer brothers not to return, the writing duo have explained her disappearance will affect the characters in season 2 — particularly her best friend Nancy. Additional details revealed by the Duffers confirm season 2 will pick up nearly a year following the events of season 1. However, while the season 2 episode titles offer some insight into the future of Stranger Things, we don’t know too many specifics about the upcoming season — plus Matt and Ross Duffer have since revealed certain episode titles will change by the time season 2 hits Netflix.
That said, given the massive popularity of Stranger Things season 1, fans will be eagerly awaiting any information the Duffer brothers or Netflix are willing to release — including this photo that reveals production has begun and confirms of Eleven’s return. Without an official release date, though, it remains to be seen how long fans will have to wait until they’ll be able to watch season 2 of Stranger Things.

[h=1]Stranger Things Season 2 Casts Goonies & Aliens Actors[/h]

After a hugely successful first season, Netflix’s Stranger Things has quickly gone into production on season 2, which is set to arrive on the streaming service next year. It’s an ambitious timeline, but one which will no doubt be firmly adhered to; Stranger Things‘ creators, Ross and Matt Duffer, began work on season 2 before season 1 had even debuted on Netflix and will no doubt be eager to capitalize on the wave of fandom momentum currently behind the series.
In fact, Stranger Things draws its influence from many notorious 1980s films that remain favorites among many a film fan – not least of all, The Goonies. Hence, this next piece of casting news will no doubt be a huge coup for the Duffer Brothers and all who work on the show. Joining the already confirmed returning cast members from Stranger Things season 1 will be Goonies and Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin, Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen, and Aliens star Paul Reiser.

According to EW, Astin is set to play Bob Newby, described as “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.” Those who watched Stranger Things season 1 remember that Dustin, Mike and Lucas were in the radio club at school, and super keen in discovering how things work, so it seems reasonable to assume that Astin’s character will be associated with this central group (which now includes Noah Scnapp as Will Byers) in some way. Astin’s casting fits right in with the show, and maybe, fingers crossed, there might be one or two Goonies references dropped in for good measure.
Sean Astin, Linnea Berthelsen and Paul Reiser

Berthelsen is playing Roman; a role that sounds like it could have ties to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). The EW description pegs her as “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab…” Though Berthelsen’s name might not be familiar to many, she is an established actress in her native Denmark and should add greatly to the already stellar cast. The line that mentions her not living in Hawkins is an intriguing one, since the action of season 1 focused specifically on the small town. Maybe there are other labs elsewhere, or maybe Roman has been brought to the lab from another country?
Finally, Reiser will play Dr. Owens: “a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.” His part sounds very much like a villainous role, which would tie in, since the Duffer Brothers cited Aliens as an inspiration for season 2, and Reiser’s character in that film, Burke, was hardly a “Nice Guy.” Remember, the exact fate of Dr. Brenner, or Eleven’s ‘papa,’ is still unknown, so Dr. Owens could well be his replacement. Would that mean that Brenner is gone for good? Well, this is Stranger Things, so don’t count on it.

[h=1]Stranger Things Season 2 Image & Plot Details Tease New Monsters[/h]

Stranger Things season two details have been kept tightly under wraps ever since the show was renewed. There are some things we know already, like the fact that Will is clearly not okay after his time in the Upside Down, and that Barb isn’t coming back, but there’s also a lot of questions to answer. Where is Eleven now? Are Mike, Lucas, Dustin and now Will still being watched, or are they back to being normal kids again? Has the ‘bad man’ disappeared for good? What of the Demogorgan?
Slated to arrive on Netflix in time for Halloween, Stranger Things season two is said to be bigger and darker than its first outing, and a previous Super Bowl teaser hints at a new monster. The cast and crew of Stranger Things have since given away a few details concerning season 2, and where all our favorite characters are when the show returns.
Firstly, the reason behind the Ghostbusters costumes in the first Stranger Things season two image and teaser is due to episode one opening on Halloween, 1984, in Hawkins, and Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin are, naturally, dressing up as the characters from the movie, as most kids their age would have been at the time. Check them out, below.

Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) made it back from the Upside Down, but at what cost? The last we saw of him, he was vomiting slugs into the sink, and trying to keep that a secret from his mother, Joyce (Winona Ryder), and brother Jonathan (Charlie Heaton). If Matt Duffer’s words to EW are anything to go by, it could be that Will has a tough time ahead:
“He seems to be seeing images from the Upside Down—the question is whether they’re real or not. So it seems like he’s having some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder.”

It’s hardly surprising that Will is traumatized; the Upside Down is hardly a nice place to find yourself lost. Also coming into the Byers family dynamic, is the first of the new characters promised; Sean Astin as Bob. Bob is an old school friend of Joyce’s, and the pair are now dating, though according to Ryder it might be less about Joyce following her heart and more about her making a pragmatic decision:
“She’s trying to mask a lot. I think she’s made this choice with Bob because she wants a good father figure in her sons’ lives.”
Elsewhere, the hero that is Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) is desperately trying to mask the events that took place a year ago, in order to keep Joyce, Will and his friends safe. But that’s taking a toll on Hopper, who is struggling with the lies he has to tell, according to Harbour:

“It kind of falls on Hopper to be the voice of authority to say, ‘This did happen and this didn’t happen,’” David Harbour says. “He’s struggling with the compromise that takes him to, having to lie and cover things up.”

In fact, struggle seems to be the key word for all of the Stranger Things characters for season 2; Mike and Nancy Wheeler are also struggling with their emotions after the loss of both Eleven and Barb. Nancy has lost a friend, and probably come to the realization that she didn’t treat her all that well while she was alive, and Mike has lost not only a friend, but also his first crush. Ross Duffer says that Mike and Nancy are the most screwed-up out of everyone, and promises that we will see them grappling with their emotions in season 2.

Away from the emotive side of Stranger Things and onto the darker, more villainous side; we meet newcomers Dacre Montgomery and Sadie Sink as brother and sister Billy and Max, respectively. Max quickly becomes friends with the boys, but Billy doesn’t integrate so well, and Matt Duffer teases his character in such a way that it seems as though we could be seeing some real evil lurking right under the surface of Billy:
“Stephen King always has really great human villains. The evil in the real world is often as bad or worse than the supernatural evil, so we wanted to introduce a character like that.”
That is definitely an intriguing prospect, and it’ll be great to see all that unfold during the course of the season, but for those worrying that Stranger Things might be abandoning its supernatural elements in favor of real life; fear not. The Duffer brothers have revealed that the portal to the Upside Down remains open, and that the lab is now being run by Dr. Owens (played by Paul Reiser), who seems to be a nice enough guy (we’ll wait and see on that one). Will Eleven return sooner, rather than later? And apart from lots more hair, how will she differ from before? No one’s giving anything away in that regard, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Though we are promised new monsters, the Duffer brothers are, understandably, not giving away details, though we did see an interesting sketch from Will in the recent teaser. Is that one of his visions, or is it an accurate depiction of what to expect? All we have to go on for now, is that Stranger Things season 2 will be exploring “different kinds of horror.” The possibilities to that, are endless.

Stranger Things Season 2 is More ‘Horror Oriented’

The second season of Stranger Things is going to be more “horror oriented” than its predecessor. Netflix’s show was one of the standout hits of 2016, rightfully gaining nominations and winning a slew of awards for acting, writing, direction and production. The Duffer brothers’ homage to ’80s movies including E.T. and The Goonies, delivered a hugely enjoyable sci-fi show that kept Netflix audiences gripped.
Unsurprisingly, Stranger Things was picked up for a second season, that will arrive on Netflix in time for Halloween. The young cast all return, including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas, and Noah Schnapp as Will. Schnapp will see an increase in his role this time around, since his character is now back in our world after spending so long in the Upside Down.
Ahead of Stranger Things’ return to our screens, the main cast have been interviewed for People Magazine, where they discussed the nature of the second season, and gave some hints as to what we might expect. There’s also a new Emmy Magazine cover released, which can be viewed below.

We’re still six months out from Stranger Things returning to Netflix, and of course, the exact plot details of the season are a closely guarded secret, but we do know some things. The show will pick up exactly a year after Will Byers returned from the Upside Down, and of course, an event like that has had a profound effect on everybody. Not only has Will been changed by all he went through, but the rest of the kids have been altered by the arrival of Eleven in their lives, and now everyone needs to reconnect. Matarazzo hints that this will be explored, particularly the emotional scars that season one events have left in their wake:
“The great thing about this season is you get to see insights into each character on their own. You’re going to see a lot more into the lives of how the characters are coping with what’s been going on.
“I think they’re all very emotionally scarred. They feel alone because their best friend [Will] is back and he’s not acting like their best friend anymore. He’s changed.”

Fans will recall that at the very end of season one, Will was vomiting slugs into the sink; a strong hint that a rather dark and sinister part of the Upside Down somehow resides in Will and has returned to civilization with him. Will was trying to keep that a secret, and again, that will take its toll. It also gives way for more monsters to come, and Wolfhard adds that the show will be based on the darker elements of Stranger Things:
“There are going to be some challenges that the characters face that are real. That are disturbing.
“I think this season will be a lot more dark. A lot more horror oriented. I think people are going to like it more than the first season.”

Certainly fans are eager to see more from the Upside Down, and it will be interesting to see it pervading the kids every day existence. There’s also the introduction of new characters, which will alter the dynamic as the existing group try to keep what happened with Will a secret. Then there’s Eleven. Where is she, for a start? And does she still have special powers? We’ll find out when Netflix unlocks the curiosity door this Fall.
Stranger Things season one is available for streaming on Netflix. Season two will arrive in time for Halloween.

[h=1]Stranger Things Season 2 Story Revolves Around the ‘Shadow Monster’[/h]

Stranger Things showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer tease story details for season 2, including that the mystery surrounds a shadow monster. Season 1 of Stranger Things debuted on Netflix last summer, unraveling the mysterious disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), the appearance of a young telekinetic girl named Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), and the supernatural creature called the Demogorgon in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, in the 1980s. Viewers fell in love with the Goonies-like band of kids at the core of Stranger Things – which includes Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) – as they tried to find their friend and fight the Demogorgon.

The series also followed Will’s mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) as she worked with police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) to find her son, while Will’s brother Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Mike’s sister Nancy (Natalia Dyer) conducted their own investigation into the Demogorgon and the Upside Down. Season 2 of Stranger Things, which has been given the theatrical moniker of Stranger Things 2, will introduce some new players to Hawkins, including Sean Astin’s Bob Newby, Sadie Sink’s Max and Dacre Montgomery’s Billy. Now, some of the major characters of Stranger Things 2 grace the covers of EW’s latest issue, while the Duffers reveal new details about the season.
[h=4]Related: Stranger Things Season 2 Poster: Will Sees Monsters[/h]While talking to EW, the Duffer brothers revealed the season 2 mystery will revolve around something called the “shadow monster” – a massive creature that appears to Will in a PTSD-like vision of the Upside Down, which were teased in the Stranger Things season 1 finale. Ross explained, “It’s all connected to this singular threat, which is tied into this shape that Will sees in the sky.” Matt went on to say of the entire nine-hour season, “Each episode is building on the last one. It gets much crazier than it ever got in season one.” Take a look at the Stranger Things EW covers in the gallery below.

Considering how phenomenally well viewers and critics responded to Stranger Things season 1, the second season has some massive shoes to fill – pressure that was undoubtedly felt by Matt and Ross Duffer when plotting out a return to Hawkins. However, the Duffers are embracing the sequel status of Stranger Things 2, even though Netflix wasn’t always entirely on board with it since sequels aren’t always as successful as their predecessors. Matt said:

When we started describing it as a sequel, Netflix was like, ‘Don’t do that, because sequels are known to be bad.’ I was like, ‘Yes, but what about T2 and Aliens and Toy Story 2 and Godfather II?’ … We want people to argue about what season is better. I want the debate. I want the Toy Story debate!”
Based on the comments of Matt and Ross Duffer, fans seem to be in for a markedly different Stranger Things season when the show’s sophomore outing debuts next month. Obviously, the core of the series will stay the same considering all the same cast members are returning, and it was the dynamic of that group of kids at the center of Stranger Things that was one of its biggest strengths. But that dynamic won’t necessarily be the same what with the return of Will from the Upside Down – and the ramifications of his time there manifesting as PTSD and visions of evil creatures – the mysterious reappearance of Eleven once she returns, and, of course, the addition of Max.
But, while the new elements of Stranger Things 2, between the shadow monster and the new cast members, will add a fresh spin on the show, it seems likely the series will continue to build on what made it so well loved. Whether Stranger Things 2 lives up to season 1 – and whether it will inspire the Toy Story-like debates Matt Duffer hopes – remains to be seen. But with only a month left before Stranger Things 2 debuts, fans will be able to watch the followup soon enough.
