Sony PlayStation 5 : Play Has No Limits

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

Now I know whas should I go with cash. To convert on my EQ from one platfrom to second one I need to sell and later buy currency in PoE :) THat's brilliant !
I'm thinking that Odealo should be best to sell & buy Path of Exile currency https://odealo.com/games/path-of-exile/currency
THank you for your reply and I'm thankfull for that, have a nice one!

Oregon-based Sony Bend, best known for the 2019 open-world action game Days Gone, tried unsuccessfully to pitch a sequel that year, according to people familiar with the proposal. Although the first game had been profitable, its development had been lengthy and critical reception was mixed, so a Days Gone 2 wasn’t seen as a viable option.

"The problem with that model is it's just not sustainable," said Layden. He explained that current generation development costs reach between $80 million and $150 million (excluding marketing costs) for AAA games, with the work taking up to five years to complete. Furthermore, AAA budgets have historically doubled each generation, meaning that PS5 development budgets could hit $300 million.

"I don't think that, in the next generation, you can take those numbers and multiply them by two and think that you can grow," he added. "I think the industry as a whole needs to sit back and go, 'Alright, what are we building? What's the audience expectation? What is the best way to get our story across, and say what we need to say?'
He's absolutely right. The current AAA model isn't sustainable. Games can be AAA and not have massive budgets, and still do really well. Case in point: Nintendo.

I doubt Returnal has a huge budget.

If Sony is to follow Nintendo's model then how will studios live their dream of implementing physically accurate, ML-based muscle deformation?

The Jimbo approach: by putting games on PC and maximizing software profitability. A questionable approach, given how a huge chunk of SIE's revenue comes from the 50M or so PS Plus subscriptions.

The Nintendo approach: by making smart decisions to minimize development costs and focus on the experience the game is aiming to deliver, and by respecting IPs and their association with the PlayStation brand.

Miles Morales did just fine without ML-based muscle deformation.

AAA games not on massive budgets already exist in the industry and have for a long time, with or without Shawn Layden's leadership.

All Sony "heavy hitter" exclusives were driven by single-player campaigns which have nothing to do with PS Plus subscriptions. No PS Plus revenue is lost by putting those games on PC.

Miles Morales was not on a AAA budget of a Santa Monica or a Naughty Dog game. Neither did it cost $60 or the new price of $70. It "did fine" and yet the studio is investing in technology that Nintendo studios aren't.

Nintendo's approach is developing and targeting their mobile specification hardware which lowers development costs significantly, that's the only "smart" part of the equation. The way people are emphasizing Nintendo's approach only paints Mark Cerny as the real villain 😂

Point is Sony's AAA games are developed on massive budgets, which are only getting bigger.

Not all heavy hitter Sony IPs, but TLOU, Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima, and MLB all have multiplayer components (TLOU II multiplayer is a stand alone release, but it's part of the IP) and have much to do with PS Plus.

Insomniac is investing in technologies Nintendo isn't because Sony wants them to. Back when they were independent, they made a game like Song of the Deep. With Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, they're leveraging faster I/O tech to bring about new possibilities in their game design, so I'm totally on board with that.

Nintendo's mobile spec hardware is more powerful than the PS3 and X360, yet, compared to their games, a majority of Nintendo's games are simpler in terms of geometric complexity and texture detail. It all comes down to priorities.

Budgets increase every generation. Its up to the studio heads first to keep those budgets in check.

Sony is giving Insomniac the financial backing because Insomniac wants to invest in these technologies. It goes both ways.

TLOU 2 does not have a MP component so its sales can't be driven by that. Ghost of Tsushima also launched and became the fastest selling Sony IP without a MP component. God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone do not have MP components. No PS Plus revenue is being generated by these games.

Both Call of Duty and Uncharted have SP as well as MP components. Yet one is a massive source of PS Plus revenue, while the other is a tiny fraction, if at all worthy of even consideration in the grand scheme. No points for guessing which is which.

Is the next Switch going to be as powerful as PS5? Even when Sony released a handheld device they did not make it their priority over a powerful dedicated console. Clearly Nintendo and Sony have always had different priorities.

Even if studios like Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games want to invest in new technologies, SIE could prioritize which tech is more meaningful to the game's design goals, which is essentially what Shawn Layden said.

Creating large, open world games with the graphical fidelity of the UE5 tech demo is not commercially viable for a platform exclusive. Therefore, in order to keep these games exclusive and profitable, certain compromises will have to be made.

Despite not receiving new content, TLOU Part 1 and UC4 both have active multiplayer modes even today. They don't need to have a user base in the ballpark of a Call of Duty game in order to be relevant to PS Plus. Also, the demand for TLOU II's multiplayer game speaks for itself.

As for the question of the next Switch being as powerful as PS5, that's not even the point when Nintendo first party isn't even pushing for the kind of detail and geometry that was in a PS3 game lol.

So does that make ML-based muscle deformation a meaningless or meaningful addition to game design in Miles Morales?

Despite not receiving new content or updates, it is "active". I think despite those games being on another platform, it is going to remain "active" on PS4. Still doesn't show if these games are making a meaningful contribution to PS Plus revenue. Neither Horizon Zero Dawn nor Days Gone, the two games on Steam, have MP components. So not sure how PS Plus revenue is being negatively affected.

"So how can we look at that and say: Is there another answer? Instead of spending five years making an 80 hour game, what does three years and a 15 hour game look like? What would be the cost around that? Is that a full-throated experience?

"Personally, as an older gamer... I would welcome a return to the 12 to 15 hour [AAA] game. I would finish more games, first of all, and just like a well edited piece of literature or a movie, looking at the discipline around that could give us tighter, more compelling content.

"It's something I'd like to see a return to in this business."
Shawn Layden's goals don't seem to align with the developer's vision over at Santa Monica or Naughty Dog. Probably why he got axed in the first place 🤷‍♂️

Someone finally read that I mentioned Nintendo first party game lol

Does the existence of a dedicated multiplayer game from Naughty Dog indicate that their previous games did make a meaningful contribution to PS Plus?

Does the existence of shorter games like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Miles Morales indicate that Shawn Layden's goals did align with those of Sony's first party to some extent?

Unlike Nintendo, present day Sony is sadly a business that doesn't run on sentiments. If they didn't see money in a TLOU multiplayer game or a Miles Morales, these projects would never have been green-lit.

Q: Could you shed light on their culture of IP abandonment? Sony has a wealth of dead franchises and legacy content that they seemingly do not care to bring forward. Was Backwards Compatibility as little used as Jim Ryan claimed? Who made the choice for the proprietary memory card on the vita? Was the unused top port on the vita going to be used for HDMI Out?
Thanks for the AMA!

A: Certain IP has more value in a cultural sense than it does in a market sense. I know it's not Sony, but look at Metroid for a comparison. That franchise is critical to the history of games, but it's sold 20 Million copies throughout its life. The most recent Animal Crossing game outsold that entire franchise. Sony is a business and they care first and foremost about where the money is, not where the sentiment is.
Q: Do you have any insight on what's going on (or already happened) with Sony essentially throwing all of Japan under the bus more recently? Has the US branch taken over the company entirely somehow? And, if so, why and how did the Japanese allow that?

Also, does Sony at all understand their appeal in terms of Japanese game software? Because the more I see them do anything this past generation and currently, the more I think they could be incompetently unaware.

A: There's a lot to it, some I'm going to simplify it at the cost of some nuance.

Playstation is a historically Japanese brand. In the time since Playstation debuted, America has grown to be the largest video game market. There's been a lot of internal competition for the "control" of the Playstation brand and over the past several years you can clearly see where America has been winning. Relocation of HQ, shutdown of most of Japan Studios, and the DualSense's X default confirm (as a final "fuck you") are some of the notable examples off the top of my head.

Most of this took place far above my level - think officers and the like.
Luckily, Nintendo exists, and is my primary gaming platform now.

Heck, even Valve doesn't always see things from the lens of a business. If there were no sentiments there, Half-Life Alyx wouldn't have been a VR-only game.

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.
