Set a few years after the horrifying events in the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again. • First-Person Action – Players will assume the role of Ethan Winters and experience every up-close battle and terrifying pursuit through a first-person perspective. • Familiar Faces and New Foes – Chris Redfield has typically been a hero in the Resident Evil series, but his appearance in Resident Evil Village seemingly shrouds him in sinister motives. A host of new adversaries inhabiting the village will relentlessly hunt Ethan and hinder his every move as he attempts to make sense of the new nightmare he finds himself in.

Resident Evil Village: Sexual Content, Open World Tagged On Steam DB

Just days after the blowout Resident Evil Showcase stream, which revealed Resident Evil Village‘s release date, new gameplay, the multiplayer title RE:Verse and more, Capcom has once again updated the tags on the Steam page for Resident Evil Village. Previously, Capcom accidentally outed the existence of RE:Verse by tagging multiplayer amongst the other internal Steam DB tags, and it appears to have happened yet again. Without anyone noticing, Capcom has added two more tags to the mix: Sexual Content and Open World.

Now of course there’s going to be a very specific section of the fanbase that’s going to be overjoyed to see that sexual content tag (although Resident Evil has been tagged for having nudity and sexual content in the past, Resident Evil 6‘s Deborah boss being the most obvious example), but the really exciting one is the Open World tag. During the Resident Evil Showcase stream, we got the reveal of Village‘s Collector’s Edition, which includes a bunch of different goodies such as a Chris statue, a Steelbook case, and most relevant to this — a map. The included map shows off the sheer scale of Village‘s… well, village, revealing different branches and areas that spread out far beyond the borders of the central town itself or even the castle that’s been featured so prominently in marketing thus far.

From a lakeside factory (complete with some sort of lake monster) to multiple other dwellings dotting the countryside labeled after the four branches of the village’s ominous founding families, the area we’ll be exploring appears to be absolutely massive. I’d been curious how this would function — the game most have been drawing comparisons to so far is Resident Evil 4, but that game is linear almost to a fault, with only one true case of actually required backtracking during the entire experience. This village is massive to a degree that it seemingly would necessitate an open-world approach, and it appears we now have our answer. This is even more interesting when we look at producer Pete Fabiano’s words from the Showcase stream in this new context: “we’ve also got extra objectives outside of the main ones“.

The real star of Resident Evil Village’s Maiden demo is the PS5’s 3D audio

Resident Evil Village’s first demo, titled Maiden, is now live — and it’s quite a teaser. The PlayStation 5 exclusive is no more than 15 minutes long and gives just a small taste of the survival horror game’s ornate castle and mysterious monsters.

While the quick demo serves as a tantalizing tease for one of the year’s biggest games, it’s even more effective as a showcase for one of the PlayStation 5’s less-discussed features: 3D audio.

Leading up to the PS5’s launch, Sony hyped up the system’s Tempest 3D Audio Tech as one of the console’s defining features. The in-house engine allows sound to come from a much wider range of sources. That means players can hear more specific directionality in games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, with noises sounding like they are coming from above, below, and behind players.

Listening through a standard TV soundbar, the moment doesn’t sound that out of the ordinary. The spooky bumps in the night sound about on par with what I’ve come to expect from games like Resident Evil 7. I tensed up and jumped at some loud noises, but that’s par for the course.

It’s a completely different sequence through a compatible headset. The sound design is chaotic, with loud bangs coming from every direction. A wooden rack falls to my right, causing me to instinctively swing a hard right on my control stick to pinpoint the source. As I turn my field of vision, I suddenly hear shuffling behind my head, causing me to swing another 180 degrees. The noises become overwhelming as I desperately try to scan the room for whatever’s making them, snapping to every direction.

Unable to find the source, I make a beeline for the exit and slowly start picking a lock. All the while, I hear spectral wailing right at my back, as if something is leaning over my shoulder to growl in my ear. Certain something’s about to kill me, I get the door open and book it out of the room as fast as possible. It’s a moment that feels physical in the way that only VR really captures.

esident Evil Village is set to utilize Sony’s 3D audio on PlayStation 5, and that fact is more exciting than ever. After playing through Maiden, I’m left feeling convinced that PS5 will be the ideal way to experience Village. Between 3D audio and haptic feedback, the demo promises a more immersive horror experience that could up the ante when it comes to digital terror.

Having experienced it myself, some good pair of headsets are a must buy with this game.

the game is looking very good, the only caveat I have that they are focusing on the cast from 7, which were not really that interesting in the first place

Capcom is having a live TGS stream right now, the RE8 segment just ended.

The biggest new news out of it is that Capcom reps on stage said they are 'trying to get the game running on PS4/XBO' but won't make any promises whether a current gen release will 100% come out or not.

So ... I guess they're looking at the cross-gen idea too ?

Product page for the game has been updated to add Ray Tracing. Looks like the game will officially support RT on next-gen consoles and PC.

  • Stunning visuals: Explore Resident Evil Village's beautiful yet terrifying vistas and locales in 4K with Ray Tracing.
[*]Fast loading: Instantly pick up right where you left off with almost no load times, thanks to the power of the PS5 console's ultra-high speed SSD.
[*]Adaptive triggers: Feel the weight and pull of weapon triggers for an even more immersive experience.
[*]Haptic feedback: Simulate the feeling of firing a real gun with haptic feedback.
[*]Tempest 3D AudioTech on compatible headphones: Surround yourself with the carefully crafted music and sounds of survival horror in Resident Evil Village. 3D Audio enhances the experience by making you feel the hair-raising sounds coming from every direction.

That village is giving me massive shades of RE4.

They're probably gonna use this revised engine for the inevitable RE4make.

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.

With how great cod warzone has translated onto mobile. Mainstream Consoles have lost its value even further. Maybe console gaming was associated with TVs and how TV is not the primary source of media consumption anymore, consoles will lose its 200 million core audiences even further.
