Power supply is a Grid That Powers up the Whole Computer.

As Members of this Forum are asking for List of Recommended Power Supplies so they can take help for buying NEw Supplies for there Rigs. so i have Decided to Create a Separate and Fresh Thread for only Recommended Power Supplies and of course will cover the FAQs.

What are we suggesting here is an extensive unit of power supplies, Actually whole list of PSUs for the End users to run There High end Gaming Rigs. the list will comprises of Several Well Reputable Brands and there Potential to Run Graphics Card of any kind.
I Presume since you're reading this Thread, you must know about the significance of Having a Quality Power Supply, Talking about overall Buld Quality and not the Efficiency only. While listing the Brands And Models for PSUs, i will post the Reviews regarding the specific Power Supply so You guys can do some reading for yourself too just to understand things and what is good for you.

Frequent Asking Questions

1. How Much Power requires to Run My GAming Setup?
Ans. Well, the first and foremost concern that comes in every gamers who have a Gaming rig either High End or budget System. to Determine what amount of Power he need to run his system first you do know the components in your system like CPU, motherboard, Graphics Card, Ram, Rear Fans, Hard drives, SSD. all these components are consume a specific proportion of Power from Grid called Power Supply.

+12v Rail has major Power draw for components.(like Corsair RM 750 has single rail of +12v with ampere 62.5x12) 750W draws on +12v rail. so we have total Power draw for System would be 1200 wattage.

we Take an Example of a 4th Gen Gaming System.

ComponentsWattage
I7 4790K at stock110w max
Cm V6GT 2xfans8w Max (4w Per Fan)
GTX 980 at stock305w
2x 4GB RAM8w (4w Per stick)
4x 500GB Hard drives48W (12w Per HDD)
1x SSD3w
6x 120mm Cooling Fans 18W (3w Per Fan)
Total Wattage509W

Currently System's Pulled Power is 509W
Further Headroom for Overclocking 650W is recommended.

Wattage reading taken from Web from Reviews. The only Access we have. While if anybody wants to take his own figures then Wattage Meter is required which
somehow tells closely accurate Figures. Not 100% though.

2. How to Choose a Perfect or Flawless Power Supply
Ans. One of Most Frequent question asked many 100s times. But selecting or choosing PErfect PSU you should consider following elements.

  • Watts
  • Ampere on +12v Rail
  • Build quality of PSU
  • Connectors that your components Require i"e PCIe, CPU, hdd
  • 80+ Efficiency Rating

3. How Do I Measure the Power Supply Voltages?
Ans. Measuring PSU voltages isn't any difficult or dangerous thing to do. infact We have many thrid Party Programs that are available over internet through which you can measure the voltages. But software isn't the ideal way to measure the voltages for accurate or 99% results. But We have limited options here, a good Multimeter can tell a better story about the Voltages and its stability.

Here are the official maximum and minimum Voltages reading.

+5VSB (Min: 4.75v Max: 5.25v)
+3.3V (Min: 3.14v Max: 3.47v)
+5V (Min: 4.75v Max: 5.25v)
+12V (Min: 11.4v Max: 12.6v)

But one Program among many can be very effective in showing some improve results not 99% accurate but somehow better than any other software.

AIDA64

4. Single Rail Vs. Multi-Rail +12V? Which is better?
Ans. Basically Rail is a source or line through which Multi-Rail born. +12v is a Singe Rail which is called SOURCE, through which Rails are Splits to several or few others which is called Multi-Rail. single Rail is very simple, one way to deliver power for each and every components no other layer for alternatives it is mentioned like +12V on PSU.

While Multi-Rail is being made for delivering power to components from more than one Rail. It shown on PSUs like this

12V1/18 12V2/18 12V3/18

Some components powering through one rail and some components from other rails it has been shown on PSU like PCIe connector should plug into 12V2 Port(second Rail)
.

Single Rail Drawback
Short Circuit .On a Very High end System you definitely have a high End Power supply like 1000W. On 1000W Delivering power to components through single rail can be dangerous if any short circuit happen it can Burn your whole PC down. But only in very unusual circumstances happens rare.

Multi-Rail Drawback
Equal Disbribution of Load. As i mentioned above the Rails segments, we can see seond Rail contain or allows 18 Amperage on !2V Rail, Means PCIe can get 216W Through its specified Rail but if in case GPU demands more than 216w, the psu will borrow amperage from other rails which is not so simple, can be an issue. equal division of Loads will a risky term too. it can get fluctuate for time.

But Multi-Rail has bit better in sense it has better OCP, it provides an Extra Layer of Protection in case of Short Circuit. It shutdown to save the other rails through OCP feature before it damage the whole PC. Multi-Rail does not effect on performance, but Possibly much better in OCP for over 1000W PSUs. But No Impact on PErformance and overclockability.

CORSIAR is well known and Quality Brand out There, they are still using one Single Rail for there Power Suppy Units for non stop power. On the other hand ANTEC, an old company, producing power supplies from many years still preferring Multi-Rail Power System on there PSUs.

5. Modular or Semi or Non-Modular? which is more worthyh?
Ans. Well, all three Segments of Power supply have there own features, Pros n cons. These days Power supplies are coming with either Fully modular design or semi modular. Fully modular deisgn based psus are mostly in high end or with large capacity i:e 1000w PSU and above.

Modular PSU
+Extremely Precise
+High Quality
+Better Cable Management
+Continuous Airflow
+No Mess

- Expensive

Non Modular
+ Less Expensive
- Cable management's a nigtmare
- low capacity PSU
- Disturb Airflow

These days in Pakistani market, PSUs are available in either full Modular or Semi modular design. so For high end Gamers we have clear option to go with Full Modular. And of course they are worth spending few extra cash. Non modular became irrelevant due to non available or build.

will be much better if u can add prices too like in main PC buying guide... but writing the store name on which they are available is great too...

also please explain difference between modular and non-modular cables also??i know a bit about it not sure...also the advantage of modular and if it is worth paying extra for it when on budget??

well, its under process, so i will see if i can make few addition to it.

As for your Question regarding Modular, they are always better than non Modular, becuase you cannot manage in midtower case bundles of cables. In a conjusted case cable Management is HArd and so it ruin the Air Flow. Also effect on Operating temperature for PC. findng places to hide those excesses cables might be a nightmare.

while in Modular case, you will always have choices, you will only use those cables that extreme important for running PC like PCI-E, 24 pin power, CPU 8 pin, few Sata. You Will Attach the only Necessary cables.

Well Modular are expensive too, compare to Non modular due to better Build quality and of course due to Modular design. but When you're on budget it is not obvious that you spend hard cash on modular. non Modular can also do better but again depending upon case. you can do a good Cable Management in case least like CM 690 PLUS.

But the Good Thing is these Days Most PSUs are coming with Modular or Semi Modular Design which is Great for budget Gamers too. (y)

Thermaltake Smart series does not come with 3 years warranty in Pakistan or this is what Shingpoint Techno City outlet told me. I know 3yrs is mentioned on Czone and Shingpoint's websites but they only give 1 year warranty. I think going with a new PSU is always better than a used one.

For long Run, you should consider ever long lasting psu, which seems endless. sometimes used power supplies works much better than New crappy ones, depending on Supply internal Build Quality. However, thermaltake 630w stands fine and reasonable choice against Antec true power. i would also like to mention here that People here do have complaint against this specific model, so nothing is perfect, at the end it depends on your luck.

on a second opinion, If you have close friend who is selling this Antec PSU and if PSu is its pristine condition then do not hesitate. even i am using low level OEM PSU "Enhance 600w" OEM of "Silverstone" works like a charm, it was imported and i bought in used.

i dont know if it is allowed to post marketplace links here or not but this antec TP-650 i am refering to..

http://www.pakgamers.com/forums/f64/usa-original-extensions-unused-gaming-246037/
Reseller is Reliable and have very good reputation.

As for Physical condition is concern, it seems excellent. But who knows whats inside. anyways you should ask the seller about TP-650 working condition, it should not be repaired or refurbished and how much he will going to give you warranty, checking warranty. these power supplies are mostly works great. i haven't seen anybody complaining short run loss from them.

In case you wanna go with them, i will suggest you to go for short run. used PSUs are mostly gamble. i myself used Antec Trio power 650w and it worked flawless on i5 + 290 trix rig. It's now serving another rig i5 + GTX 460. still smooth and flawless.

Guys Im building a GTX 1070 + i5 6500 rig, will 550 W be enough for it?
Also, please recommend a PSU to buy. Im undecided between TT Smart SE 530W and Corsair VS550. People on the internet say they're both cheap PSUs and cheap PSUs can damage your whole system and other parts as well GPU,CPU etc.
So what is your recommendation? Should I get one of these or should I spend twice as much on a better PSU? 10-11k for a PSU would really stretch my budget but I dont wanna ruin a 50K GPU either.

For PSU you need to look for substantial Build. Try to get Thermaltake 730W bronze. its pretty good for run.

Overkill here would be 1000W. 750W is merely future proof.
you can also see some thermaltake PSUs like TR2 700w. Power Supply - Thermaltake TR2 700W Gold 80 PLUS Gold Power Supply - TR2-0700P-G in Pakistan for Rs.10300.00 | Computer Zone It's falling right under your mentioned budget. But it looks a cheap unit. Right now RM 750(x) is a quality consideration above all.

While you can consider the new PSU, just take a look at this offer might be a valuable option since it is less used. [PSU] Corsair RM750x (Used 8 months)
