A friend is coming from the USA next week. I tried to order a 3080 online on Thursday :ROFLMAO: . I guess it's going to be a long wait now for the 30 series to be available in Pakistan.

Want the best I can get have a 4k 120hz monitor that needs maxing out.
Can't max out 4K120hz on a HDMI 2.0b unless you use the monitor's DP 1.4 if it has one. HDMI 2.0b has max 18Gbps and some TVs like Q90R have an out-of-spec HDMI 2.0b that can do 4K120hz but only on YCbCr 4:2:0, not on RGB.

Nvidia is marketing its 3080 as 4K60 and its RTX 3090 as 8K60 card, so theoretically, 3090 should be able to do 4K60+ but the recent benchmarks suggest otherwise. LTT's 4K benchmarks of 3080 on FS2020 got 41 FPS and on Metro Exodus it got 35 FPS on average with 99% min being even lower than this. So EVEN IF somehow 3090 has DOUBLE the performance of 3080 (which it does not) it might only get to 4K ~60-70 FPS on these games unless you crank down the settings.

Bottomline is wait for reviews and benchmarks before you sell your 10&20 series, coz pre-orders & stocks are already a mess in States.

The display I have is HDMI 2.1 so bandwidth isnt going to be the issue 4k 120hz will be possible. I however am waiting for reviews before committing to a purchase.

Yes, talking about the LG C9 OLED.
that's a sweet display, one of the best out there, with full-spec HDMI 2.1, even Samsung's QLEDs left out some of the HDMI 2.1 features. Lets see if Nvidia packed all of the HDMI 2.1 features in 30 series, till now none of the reviews of 3080 mentioned HDMI 2.1 specs, would be interesting if it has VRR also in addition to G-Sync since Nvidia held out VRR in 20 series also over their propriety G-Sync and most importantly ALLM, QMS & QFT etc.

Well I was using the TV with my 2080ti and every feature other than 4k 120hz was working. From what I have read on Reddit the TV is currently having black screen flickering issues on the 3080 at 4k 120hz, should be fixed when Nvidia releases updated drivers. This same black screen issue surfaced when Nvidia enabled G-sync over HDMI last year and was subsequently fixed with a driver update.

Tech YES City have a video of a 3080 powering an OLED but hasn't gotten much in depth information in it unfortunately.

I read one of the reddits that flickering at 4K120 was caused by HDMI cable, it wasn't full spec HDMI 2.1 48 Gbps and changing cable solved it. The problem with these spec consortiums like HDMI or USB etc, is that they are made up of OEMs and they DON'T make hard specs, it's always specced loosely, like if you put even a single feature of HDMI 2.1 than you can slap the HDMI 2.1 badge on your device or cable. It's NOT necessary for an OEM to put ALL of the HDMI 2.1 features in its product to be certified as HDMI 2.1 product and that's why it's left to consumers to investigate themselves.

Vincent from HDTVTest confirms via Nvidia that 30 series HDMI 2.1 would be full 48 Gbps, now lets see if it has all the rest of specs like VRR, ALLM, QMS & QFT etc.

Yes, talking about the LG C9 OLED.
BTW

The 2019 C9 has full 48Gbps ports capable of 4K 120Hz 4:4:4 12-bit.

The 2020 CX only has 40Gbps ports capable of 4K 120K 4:4:4 10-bit.

Hold on to your C9

Yes I know that the C9 has a full band HDMI 2.1 port its the reason the CX is forcing chroma sub-sampling while outputting 4k 120hz, Wonder if LG will be able to fix it since they marketed the CX as compatible.

I just hope all the teething issues are solved by the time I get my gpu in.

Geforce RTX 3080s are crashing to desktop after they reach a certain core clock and apparently the board partners have acknowledged this too.

It's a capacitor overload issue and is only reported on some non-reference boards under OC, so far only EVGA has acknowledged it, the main thing that worries me, is that no vendor accepts RMAs for popped capacitors, but let's see. Also, the power draw numbers that people have reported on these OC models are through the roof. One guy on reddit couldn't even get his PC to run any AAA game on a 650 watt PSU with a 3600X till he upgraded to a 850 watts PSU, just for a 3600X + 3080

Agreed...I was researching the power draw earlier ... you basically just hit the mark perfectly except for one thing ... people are also reporting that 750watt bronze PSU's work pretty much exceptionally for the 3080s with a Ryzen 5 to Ryzen 7 processor. 3600 to 3700X.

FYI, The crashing issue has been fixed completely through a driver update. The issue was unstable peak boost clocks not the capacitors and/or PSU themselves. There's is performance gain in this update too, since the boost clocks although slightly lower are holding much more consistently.

WARNING!!!
Do not update to latest 456.55 Drivers, Nvidia has nerfed 10 & 20 series hard.

I updated the drivers and in all games started to get frame stutter, and dip in frames, I thought it needed a restart after the update, restart didn't fix it, looked online and everyone on reddit is crying over 456.55 drivers nerfing and neutering 10 & 20 series in order to make 30 series look good since the driver update lowered boost clocks for 30 series.

I was skeptical at first but rolled back the drivers and everything is peachy again, don't know if this driver update is buggy or something else but I'm gonna wait a bit.

The Crash to Desktop (CTD) issues were due to capacitors, more specifically, due to Nvidia & it's AIC partners using POSAPs/SP-CAPs rather than MLCC in 30 series. MLCC (Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitors) are more capable of filtering high frequencies than POSCAPs/SP-CAPs. Problems arise in insufficient broadband frequency cleanup at high operating frequencies (2 GHz+) for GA-102 GPUs that do not have MLCC. These problems seem somewhat alleviated in boards featuring MLCC components on their design. Read further here

Nvidia even mentioned it in their driver release statement.

Some of the AIC partners have changed their capacitors/layout/numbers post launch, some have even called back review sample, MSI has changed TRIO X product page, till now only Asus Strix has all MLCC Capacitors, rest all cards including FEs have mix of POSCAPs/SP-CAPs & MLCC. So beware what you order, there are already different versions of these cards in the market.

" ASUS was one of the manufacturers to ship a fully MLCC capacitor design with their Strix Gaming OC graphics cards, and haven't issued a statement yet. The company supposedly detected problems in this area while internally testing the RTX 30-series, and chose to do away with any POSCAP/SP-CAP in their highest-tier designs. "

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.
