Short answer, NO (IMHO). Long answer, they are two very very different beasts IMHO. Dota is a highly mechanical and complex game with a multitude of permutations and combinations. HOTs on the other hand eschews this complexity and is....for lack of a better term...more "fun" in the sense that it's much much more team oriented. Having said that, I've been able to pick up quite a few things from HOTs which have translated quite well into my dota gameplay. For example, HOTs focus on frequent team fights helped me improve my positioning and awareness during said fights. Dota doesn't provide with many opportunities to actually learn the intricacies of team fighting as they are few and far between compared to HOTs.

So yeah, both are completely different beasts but I honestly think you should give the game a shot. Also Dota>LoL huehuehuehuehuehue

HOTS is like the iPhone, sleek, easy to get down and very fun!! Dota2 and LoL are like a rooted android - tons of customization, combinations and other complexities..
Truly different beasts imo. But im really enjoying HOTS too, even against AI.

HOTS is much easier, simpler, quicker (average match length is about ~21-22 min, while for LoL it was I guess 40 min?).

That being said, having played both dota (original) and LoL for probably 1+years each, I can say that I miss the excess customization. but Hots is just soo easy to get into and quick. For me the short length is a huge plus!

I use PTCL actually. Remember to check your ping and download speeds. about 1 sec or 0.5 sec lag is normal on EU servers. Try and play Versus A.I matches before playing quick match.
