Overclocking 9600GSO! :P

Well I overclocked my Q9550 and ended up with a burned mobo so decided on GPU Ocing

Well this is what I have gathered so far:

1) GPU Ocing through software is not dangerous
2) The three things for OCing are memory clock, core clock and shader clock (which are linked)


Now I need to know:

1) Is there a danger of burning anything?
2) How do I test a GPU Overclock
3) Whats the safe tempreature for 9600GSO? (below 70C?)
4) Or should I just copy fajoo's 9600GSO Overclock?

And should I try to overclock my CPU again?

heheh so u started the thread already...........aray bhai pehlay ye batao which brand's 9600 gso u got? post a gpuz screenshot first and also inform what are ur idle and load temps.......gpu oclocking is not dangerous at all when u r doing it the right way.......

fajoo24 bro i also have xfx 9600gt 512mb. as i have some performance issue in gta4, so then i can o.c my card?

problem is that last time i o.c my card raedon 7000(about 8 year old card), in boot screen all letter was Abuses will lead to baned up. its bad idea o.c i do not recommend.

if prob occur, u r in trouble!!!

Do give the gpu-z screenshot, because there are like three variants of XFX 9600gso. Also below 80C is the safe temp for gso, since its based on the g92 chip its pretty hot.

I used to get around 56c at idle and about 84c at full load on my eVGA 9600gso (768mb). So yes it is one HOT card however my eVGA gts 250 used to idle at a much nicer 42c and went upto 70-72c at full load =)

@syavash: Below 90c is very normal under load so don't worry. But I'm sure ur temps will touch 100c if u overclock ur GPU.

And as fajoo achieved very good overclock with his 9600GSO but i also doubt his load temps will be under acceptable limits coz running 3dmark for few minutes is one thing and playing games for a while is another.

I'd advise you not to overclock the 9600gso 24/7 as it already gets quite hot at stock speeds.

u can oc it 27/7 dont worry about 3d mark it stresses the hell out of ur gpu and it gets hot u wont face that problem playing games on it so dont worry.

i used to get 105'C with my shitty xfx 9800gt which is known for its gpu heatsink problem

ok i can't see ur posted images rite now coz they are blocked in my office :S........anyways, r u using default fan speed of gpu? on default fan speed without overclock, i was getting like 74 degrees idle (didn't chk on load).......however, i then bumped up fan speed to 80% and i was then getting 54 degrees idle and 74 degrees on full load in 3d mark.......then i oclocked the gpu to 700 mhz core (from 580), 900 mhz memory (from 700) and 1750 mhz shader (from 1450), after oclock i was getting like 56 degrees on idle and 78 degrees on full load in 3d mark......So the trick is to increase ur fan speed and set it to start with windows.....

2ndly, with msi afterburner i was facing a problem that after increasing the clocks, whenever i start any application like 3d mark, furmark or any game, it was reverting the clocks to default again. So, i then used riva tuner and oclocked using it without that problem......now that i know that gpu is stable at those clocks, i have saved the oclocking profile........i start the oclocking profile when i start any game, which means i am using oclocked gpu only when i am gaming, in windows, i revert the clocks back to default.....

yar actually temps. i am getting after increasing the fan speed and oclock are very good keeping in mind that the gpu doesn't have full sized hsf, and it was actually 3d mark where i got the max temp, in gaming my load temps are not crossing 75 degrees .....

About the Furmark temps, my 98GT goes to 96 celcius during the test. Furmark really stresses the sh!t out of a GPU, because temps never exceed 80c during gaming. So its understandable youre getting high temps as well during the Furmark test.

yar chk in gaming or in 3d mark test what max temp. you are getting......furmark par 87 degrees to sahi hai phr.......yep let the core+slider attached, increas core to 680 mhz, shader will move automatically to 1700 mhz.....increase memroy clocks 100 mhz more then ur default one.......verify the increase in clocks through gpuz and then run 3d mark to check if it is stable or not (make sure when u start 3d mark, the clocks are not revereted to default like i was facing the problem)..........usually 3d mark crashes or hangs when the oclock is not stable.......

i got a crash when i increased core clock to 750 mhz and on 700 mhz it works good, so i will chk again between 700-749 mhz a stable core clock...

Here is a gpu-z screenshot of my gso.

Seeing how the mem clock of my gso is 900mhz at default, you can easily set it at 900mhz with barely any temperature rise.

Also under gaming my gso stays below 80C at 100per fan speed and on idle I underclock it using rivatuner.

I reinstalled Windows so cant check my GPu stability so cant OC as soon as it is finished downloading ( here I have 256kbps net with 4 comps on it )

Well AFQ cant OC to 4.0Ghz since thats higher than the 1800FSB that the 750i is rated for but I will try 3.4, but I am afraid of burning mobo again

And guys I called a shop in Dossary today, they also have Thermaltake fans with red led :bdance: I asked them abt Zigmatek but he was thinking i am speaking some other language :lol:

Read my post again, what I meant was that the gso I have is at default on 900mhz memory but it still has the same hsf as the one you have, so you shouldn't have any problem ocing your gso's 700mhz to 900mhz.

Infact in reviews, they have taken it upto lil above 1000 mhz on memory, i will try 1000 mhz today and will update here if it stays stable. that would be a real achievement from my default 700 mhz .........btw i am still wondering which 9600 gso i got with 700 mhz memory clocks because the original 580m version that you have has 900 mhz memory clock, mine isn't even listed on xfx website anywhere :S

Well XFX hasn't mentioned them all but has written on the spec sheet that speed can vary from this to this.

And a friend of mine who bought a gso from here has even higher speed :s

So taking the mem to 1000mhz is no biggy.
