The Outer Worlds Gets A Visual Upgrade On Nintendo Switch This Week
The Nintendo Switch version of The Outer Worlds is getting a new patch this week that includes an upgrade to the game's visuals, along with a sale.
The Nintendo Switch version of The Outer Worlds is getting a visual upgrade through a new patch releasing this week. The Outer Worlds was initially released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC last year, but was made available on the Switch just this June. The game is also scheduled for release on Steam later this month after being exclusively available on the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store on PC for a year since its initial release.
Developer Obsidian Entertainment also launched Peril on Gorgon, the first of three major content DLC for The Outer Worlds, last September for the game’s PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions. Peril on Gorgon added a new questline to the game as well as several new locations, over a dozen new weapons and armor pieces, a higher level cap, new skills and perks, and more. The DLC is expected to be released for the Nintendo Switch eventually, but no announcement has been made on a launch date as of yet.
The official The Outer Worlds Twitter account announced that the new patch would be available on October 21, and shared an image showcasing some of the visual changes the patch will introduce to the Switch version of the game. The image, which looks like a game of Spot the Difference, shows quite a few upgrades to the game’s visuals including the addition of clouds, more fauna, and better shadow and lighting effects, among others. More upgrades to the game’s visuals that aren’t seen in the shared image may be included in the patch as well.
It isn’t clear whether the upcoming patch will include other updates for the game beyond upgrading its visuals, but more information should be available soon. It was also mentioned in a follow-up tweet that more details on the Nintendo Switch patch will be released soon, probably before the patch’s release on the 21st. It was also announced that The Outer Worlds will also be going on sale on October 22, a day after the patch launches.
While the launch disparity between the Nintendo Switch version of The Outer Worlds and other platforms does give Switch owners a preview of what they can expect to be coming to the game, the upcoming visual patch shows that the developers are working on and do have Switch-specific updates planned, even if they’re mostly or exclusively technical updates rather than new content. Hopefully Obsidian Entertainment is able to release the next iteration of the game, The Outer Worlds 2, which is said to already be in pre-production, on all platforms at the same time.
