I am not a big fan of melee but god damn, who in their right mind would design a shotgun of this sort. Not only is the shotgun spread stupid, the damage the shotguns do is laughable to say the least.
I keep melee weapons for companions and shotguns I just breakdown upon sight

Once you reach Monarch and have levelled up a bit the game and combat really opens up. This is the first good sized planet. As you level up and find newer weapons esp with science damage effects, the gunplay feels much better. In particular, Bolter Pistol 2.0 with Plasma damage and Hunting Rifle are very satisfying.

Really wish the Companion Abilities were instantly executed. Every time you use an ability its a cut scene.

I personally think it's equal parts Fallout New Vegas and equal parts Mass Effect.

Surprisingly un-buggy so far. On PC, there's a lot of pop-in when you're in the open world zones and random hitches every now and then but compared to Bathesda's games, this is basically a first party level of polish.

No major stand out feature that sets it apart. There's some strong writing and world building here, if it clicks for you, but doesn't quite reach the upper echelon of RPGs like Witcher 3 or Divinity 2. I'd say its on par with Pillars of Eternity games.

If you enjoyed the Fallout 3/New Vegas games but were let down by Fallout 4 then you'll enjoy this but don't expect anything more than that.

There's a very big thing that happens when you finish that spoiler quest line. It's probably an even bigger decision than the Edgewater one if you've gained affiliation with both the factions.

And after talking to Max, I was going to side with Zora because she was the level headed one. The game clearly tries to tell you that Graham is bad. The game has been great about things like this otherwise. It really sucked that *that* decision is hidden behind an invisible choice that the player has no direct agency over. The worst part is no matter how high your speech stat is, there is no way to talk your way otu of that either. I was honestly expecting being able to run a speech check there.

Yeah thing is I saved her team and even got the medic package they asked me to fetch so at the back of my mind I was gaining her trust. Choosing between Graham's package and food supplies I didn't think much about it because I thought saving her team would be enough to get a +1 from her while gaining Graham's trust too. At the very least we should've gotten a dialogue option when we talk to Zora but she straight away refuses to negotiate. And I can't "botch" a quest I never received so I didn't know gaining her trust would be crucial.

^ I actually managed to kill Graham without raising the entire base's awareness (science weapons FTW). After that, if you talk to Zora she says something like "Guess I'm the leader now". I thought for sure it would be a dialogue choice at that point, but she refuses to even listen to the truce option at all.

Like I said, in an otherwise great game, not being able to remedy this with any amount of speech checks, and the game not informing the player about this specific hidden affinity thing in anyway beforehand was kind of a bummer.

Ah well, Sanjar and me are bros now and the Iconoclass are compost.

Lol I killed Graham too but it only resulted in a new pop up saying give the module to Zora so I figured a truce is still off the table. Thing is I do have a save point to "correct" this but its way too much to replay esp due to managing inventory, skills etc. I don't mind the hidden choice, but it felt like my dialogue skills went to waste at that moment.

Funny thing though, Sanjar says he can prepare a brief to convince them to negotiate but "it would take weeks". Both parties stress they don't have time so im gonna put this on hold and see how it plays out. If it gets botched, ill reload a check point and head back to finish it off.

Even though the point of no return comes much later, before you start doing the main Bezantium quests, you can still always go back to the Groundbreaker and talk to that corporation guy with the mustache and give them Phineas's location. It opens up a whole another set of story quests where you are directly working for the board, instead of Phineas. After a point of doing main quests in Bezantium, that guy in Groundbreaker disappears and you're locked into a story path for good.

I found this out the hard way, now gonna have to start again to see that questline :-/

XBX has the higher base resolution but PS4 has higher draw distance for foliage and world objects and higher average frame rate.

Seems like another recent game which is better on the Pro.

Finished the campaign last night. Restarted again to get the second questline.

The game's 'ending' is exactly like the Fallout games, static images with text describing what happened to people/places. For the 2nd play through I'm just rushing, not getting any companions etc.

Game was pretty solid. A solid 8/10.

I'd like to see Obsidian get more ambitious for a sequel. There is great potential here for a game that takes the best aspects of Mass Effect/Fallout/Borderlands but its never fully realized here. Really enjoyed it but some aspects were quite disappointing, only some of which can be chalked down to budget constraints (which will hopefully not be the case after Microsoft's acquisition).

I am only 10 hours in and still on the second planet working my way over very slowly. I just love the verticality and the level design of the second planet (I think its groundbreaker) and how it lets you approach the main entrance in 3 different ways..... I am loving my time with this game.

I am actually exciting to see where would Obsidian go next with a bigger budget and much better support and hopefully a much bigger scope to work with now that they are under MS Studios.

It's actually not that big of a game. I think I put in 15~18 hours ? I'll check my save, I think it says total time spent on it.

I spec'ed myself for dialogue and charm abilities which actually helped me avoid a bunch of conflict scenarios and ended up making things a lot easier.

I think I said in the chatbox to necro, but I basically talked and sneaked my way around in the entire final dungeon, not a single bullet fired. And the final "boss" was beaten with a classic Obsidian Speech check.
