[h=1]Rainbow Six Siege's New Anti-Griefing Measure Is Pretty Smart[/h]

Rainbow Six Siege has had a griefing problem for quite some time now. While parent company Ubisoft has been at the forefront of a lot of measures geared to make one's player experience more pleasant, including when they banned players for using slurs in chat earlier this year, there's apparently still been a ways to go to stop actual in-game griefing since the release of Operation Burnt Horizon. However, it now looks like players who abuse friendly fire are in for a rude awakening.
The way that the game dealt with griefing in the past has been arguably sub-optimal. Teamkilling in the game would often only result in being kicked or potentially a cooldown timer on queues, which would hardly put off serial griefers who were hellbent on offing teammates in matches. While the game has a "report for toxicity" option, reports made through that system are likely weighed against Ubisoft's Terms of Service for the game, which do not explicitly count specific griefing behaviors as bannable offenses.

The latest
Ubisoft devblog has now announced an update in the form of a mechanic that they're calling Reverse Friendly Fire (RFF), which aims to make your Rainbow Six Siege games more about teamwork and less about team-killing. RFF essentially activates when someone on your team is using the friendly fire mechanic to troll you, and it appears to activate based on total friendly damage after some community feedback. When RFF is activated by direct hits and damage from primary weapons, damage dealt to teammates is then reversed by the system and teammates will not receive that damage.

The devblog details the effects of reverse friendly fire as follows:
[h=3]ON WEAPONS/THROWN OBJECTS[/h]Impacts:

 • Primary/secondary weapons
 • Direct hits from thrown unique gadgets
 • Exothermic-S Torch (Maverick)
 • SK 4-12 (Buck)
 • Mounted LMG (Tachanka; regardless of who's using the turret)
 • M120 CREM (Ash) when the breaching round directly hits someone
 • KS79 Lifeline (Zofia)
 • Airjab Launcher (Nomad)
 • Pest Launcher (Mozzie)
After RFF activation:

 • Teammates will not receive damage
 • Will reverse damage dealt
[h=3]ON EXPLOSIVES[/h]Impacts:

 • Generic gadgets (frag grenade, C4, breach charge) that results in an explosion — gadgets that don't do damage like stun grenades and Ying's Candela don't trigger RFF
 • Gas Grenade (Smoke)
 • TAC MKO asphyxiating bolts (Capitao)
 • M120 CREM (Ash) when the breaching round explodes
 • Cluster Charge (Fuze)

After RFF activation:

 • Can cause damage to teammates
 • Does not reverse damage dealt — this will be hotfixed in Season 2
Exceptions

 • Claymore
 • Entry Denial Device (Kapkan)
 • X-Kairos pellets (Hibana)
 • Exothermic charge (Thermite)
The above explosives do not trigger RFF and while under RFF, they can continue to damage teammates.
[h=3]ON DRONES/OPERATOR CAMERAS[/h]Impacts:

 • Evil Eye (Maestro)
 • Shock Drone (Twitch and Mozzie)
After RFF activation

 • Teammates will not receive damage
 • Will reverse damage dealt (onto the drone/camera)
This anti-teamkill update is due to go live tomorrow for Rainbow Six Siege so it's likely that the community is going to have more to say once they actually see it in action.

The patch notes from Ubisoft already indicate that it's looking forward in terms of potential amendments to RFF in Season 2 of its prolific
Year 4, which is positive; it likely shows that this isn't just a one-and-done fix that the company's throwing out to deal as a temporary band-aid. As to whether this update is going to stick will likely depend on the reception of fans and careful balancing from the dev team in updates to come.Source: Rainbow Six Siege/Ubisoft Devblog

[h=1]Rainbow Six Siege team-killers: Repent, or face reverse friendly fire[/h]

[h=2]Ubisoft Montreal developers find a novel way to punish griefers[/h]

Griefers who kill their teammates in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siegewill have their own weapons turned back on them thanks to the game’s latest update. The punishment is called reverse friendly fire and it sounds like a ridiculous way to go down, which is what team-killers deserve.
The RFF system came online with Thursday’s patch. In a development blog on the game’s Steam page on Wednesday, Ubisoft Montreal explained how it works and why it’s the best way to deal with people, in the context of a highly competitive tactical shooter. RFF has been tried out on test servers for the past two months and developers say it should be “a positive step forward in our fight against team killing, while maintaining the same intensity and high stakes gameplay that is core to the Rainbow Six Siege experience.”
Basically, when someone is shot by a teammate, the victim then has the option of activating reflecting bullets for the offender’s weapon for the rest of the match. That means any rounds they fire that hit friends will be redirected back in their own grill. So, if you do accidentally take someone out by friendly fire, it is highly recommended that accept responsibility and apologize to them, because they’ll be watching a kill-cam that identifies you as the culprit.
For gadgets, like the game’s drones and operator cams, damage they cause will be reversed back onto the device itself, not the player who owns them. Again, that’s after a verification step, so while repeated accidental kills would be unlikely, it at least accommodates the idea that someone could walk into their line of fire while not paying attention.
Explosives, with some exceptions, will also work the same way, although four of the game’s gadgets will not. That may change in the future, feedback pending, Ubisoft said. Explosive gadgets that don’t do any damage will have no effect on this system. And, for now, all explosives under the reverse friendly fire flag can still damage teammates as well as their owner — but this will be changed when Siege’s next season begins.
Plenty of more details are available through the Steam page. On the whole, this is a more creative, and probably more useful way to deal with team-killing griefers than in the past. The old way, all you could do was boot them from a match — which left the non-offending members down a fighter, after all. This way, miscreants’ ability to cause shit is minimized while still getting some use out of their participation, even if it’s just to take fire from the other team.

------

i'm kind of in a love hate relationship with this new update. i don't team kill but someone accidentally comes in your way those acog moments like wtf dude.

[h=1]New Rainbow Six Siege Operators Teased by Ubisoft[/h]

PDATE: Ubisoft unveiled the first of the two operators earlier today (May 15, 2019). The attacking operator is called Nøkk, and will have an eerie, Banshee-like aesthetic to match her stealthy playstyle. For more details, check out Ubisoft's announcement here.
The new Rainbow Six Siege operators will be coming soon, and it looks like Ubisoft is already preparing fans for their eventual reveal with a quick teaser posted to Twitter late yesterday, showcasing the two potential playstyles of the new characters in one tantalizing image. Rainbow Six Siege is gearing up for Year 4 Season 2, and the constantly improving Ubisoft title will be adding at least two new operators alongside the usual dearth of content that has made the game such an appealing long-term investment for fans of multiplayer shooters.

We already knew a little bit about the new operators, as previous leaks had indicated that they would be an America Secret Service agent and a Danish operative that played much more stealthily than a gun-toting American might. Rainbow Six Siege has been taking bigger risks with its operators as of late, adding characters who are highly specialized or offer something that the game had not previously contained. So far, it has paid off, and it has fans excited about the potential of the new operatives heading into a crucial part of the game's
Year 4 — with more multiplayer shooters available each year, Ubisoft has had to keep up the pace to maintain Rainbow Six Siege's relevancy, and the new Rainbow Six Siege operators are a big factor in keeping the game healthy.

Ubisoft had previously revealed in the Year 4 roadmap that the second season would see the addition of the two new Rainbow Six Siege operators, one from the United States and the other from Denmark.
Rainbow Six Siege leakswould later suggest that the US operator is a defender character with an optical device that makes them immune to the effects of flashbangs and smoke grenades, while the Danish attacker operator is a silent character who is invisible to cameras. The new teaser showcases both of them in their natural habitats, then — a defender prepared for an assault and the silent attacker looking to slip through the shadows and catch their prey. Here's the Tweet:

Not much else has been revealed about the two new operators, but then again, there's already a solid amount of information out about them, and it would make sense for Ubisoft to sandbag the rest for the build-up to their release. Until then, Rainbow Six Siege will be in the sort of limbo between major content releases that Ubisoft has historically navigated by providing good multiplayer events and bonuses, so it would make sense to see more of the same in the interim.
Rainbow Six Siege remains one of the most underplayed and underrated multiplayer games of its generation, and Ubisoft has continually supported it with more quality content ever since its release. With many suggesting that the thing holding the game back could be the egregiously difficult learning curve now that there's so much involved in a single game of Rainbow Six Siege, if the two new operators are more user-friendly than most, they could represent the bridge between new players and the competitive scene that sees one last resurgence of interest before the new console generation likely steals away a chunk of the playerbase.

[h=1]Rainbow Six Siege heads to the Old West in this new event[/h]

Yee haw, operators

Rainbow Six Siege is a very modern game, what with all of the operators using their high-tech gadgets in an elaborate game of breaching and clearing. But what if Siege went to a humbler place? The newest showdown event answers this question by turning Rainbow Sixinto a Western.
From July 2 to July 16, players will be able to participate in a 3v3 showdown. This action looks a lot closer to Red Dead Redemption than Rainbow Six, with attackers and defenders fighting over the objective of Fort Truth. Fort Truth is a brand new map specifically for this event.

Of course, it wouldn’t be the Old West unless the operators were decked out in cosmetics to match. From sheriff's hats to old timey shotgun, players will be able to unlock Western themed cosmetics for Ash, Glaz, Capitao, Twitch, Maverick, Caveira, Maestro, Rook, Alibi, and Kaid. There are 31 items in total, and each showdown pack can be purchased for 300 R6 credits. There are no duplicates in a pack.
Logging in during the event grants players a free Showdown Collection Pack, and completing Ubisoft Club Event challenges will earn another pack and unique weapon skin for the BOSG.12.2.
Rainbow Six Siege is getting increasingly creative with their events. It’s unlikely we’ll see this event used as inspiration for a new game, in the same way that Outbreak led to Rainbow Six Quarantine ... but it looks like a fun change of pace from the usual style of gameplay. The event kicks off Tuesday.

[h=1]Bans coming for Rainbow Six Siege chat cheaters[/h]
You know if you accidentally did it more than 10 times

If you cheated in Rainbow Six Siege by spamming the shooter’s chat window with garbage, you’re in deep crap. Bans are coming for that today.
The recently discovered exploit could either crash the game or make opposing players’ games severely lag, to the point they’d be forced to quit matches. This was, obviously, very disruptive to the game’s ranked competition. It became a serious enough problem to warrant a patch (deployed on Tuesday) and now the wave of bans as Ubisoft Montreal sorts out who used it and how severely they should be punished.
The bans “will have varying lengths, depending on the frequency and severity of the exploit’s usage,” a Ubisoft community rep said in the Rainbow Six subreddit yesterday. “This is our next step towards sanctioning players that knowingly and deliberately take advantage of exploits to the detriment of the overall match.”
The exploit is considered a violation of Rainbow Six Siege’s code of conduct, specifically the part about “interrupt[ing] the general flow of Gameplay in the Game client, forum, or any other Ubisoft medium.”
Of course, some players preemptively worried that because they may have accidentally on-purpose triggered the exploit but only for educational purposes to show their Twitch audience how broken it was, they might be unfairly punished. “We accounted for that,” Craig Robinson, a community manager, said on Twitter. “If you did it less than 10 times you’re safe.” Whew.

[h=1]Rainbow Six Siege’s newest operators look like Indiana Jones characters[/h]

Latest season’s characters appear to be Central American treasure hunters

Rainbow Six Siege is about to embark on the third season of its fourth year since launch, andaccording to concept art fans have found recently, the two new operators players will meet look like a couple of treasure hunters straight from an Indiana Jones flick.
Concept art for the new characters slipped out over the weekend and ended up on the game’s subreddit. Skeptical players there aren’t sure that the images really fit the idea of a Siegefighter, but when they’re taken in with some hints previously revealed by the game’s support roadmap, it seems plausible. Me personally, I’m captivated by the female character depicted, who looks like a straight-up tribute to Marion Ravenwood.

I mean, right?

Lucasfilm ltd./Paramount PicturesHow she fits into a tactical, teamwork shooter like Siege, I dunno, but as Ubisoft Montreal has found its stride with the game, characters with unorthodox backstories have joined the action. In the leaked concept art, the new fighter seems to be paired with this hombre, who resembles either Recondo from G.I. Joe or Tom Selleck from Quigley Down Under, not sure.

Ubisoft’s latest guidance is that the newest operators will hail from Peru and Mexico, which doesn’t necessarily mean their ethnicity or national origin, they could be just popping in after dodging a boulder at the Hovitos dig.
Anyway, Rainbow Six Siege is about to embark on a new season so we will find out for sure soon enough. These two heroes will be followed at the end of the year by two more operators, from Kenya and India.

[h=1]Rainbow Six Siege’s new map is a glass kill house inside a stadium[/h]

Stadium, a high-tech training facility, gets fans ready for The Six Invitational in February

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege players will get a new map and battle pass, with loot spread out over the next five weeks, in anticipation of The Six Invitational, the game’s premier esports tournament. It’s called the Road to SI 2020, and it starts today, and runs until Feb. 16.
The new map is called Stadium; it was teased yesterday with the above, lore-based cinematic. Stadium is the ruins of a modern coliseum in Greece, cleaned up and set up as a training/proving grounds for the Operators. Set up on the infield is a kill house stocked with rooms and other callbacks to other maps in the Rainbow Six Siege lineup. “This new map uses bulletproof glass material to create new situations,” the map’s description states.
The Stadium gives players access to all of the game’s Operators, even those they haven’t unlocked. Unranked is a Bomb game type where both teams are trying to find the other’s detonator, bring it back to their base, and disarm it.
But evidently it will also be where the Six Invitational takes place five weeks from now. The season-ending Six Invitational 2020 will bring 16 top teams to Ubisoft Montreal to compete for a large, cash prize pool. Last that pool was $2 million, raising the stakes for competitive play. The Six Invitational 2020 begins Feb. 7. and runs for a week.
Commemorating that is a free Six Invitational MPX skin for all players. It’s called the “S.I. Club Reward” and can be found in the Rewards section of the Ubisoft Club. That will be also be available until Feb. 16.
A Battle Pass accompanying the event will feature 50 rewards spread over 35 tiers, earn by completing challenges. Or the pass can be bought outright for for 840 R6 Credits. The premium track will deliver uniforms, R6 Credits, and Renown boosters in addition to the headgears, weapon skins, weapon charms, and Alpha Packs on the free track. The Road to SI 2020 also provides a 25% boost for ranked and unranked playlists, which increases to 30% for Year 4 Pass holders.
Much more is expected of Rainbow Six Siege over the next month, as the Six Invitational also serves as a preview of things to come for the game’s next year of content. Yesterday, a Redditor discovered, and posted, assets from the latest 4.2 patch that hint at what may be coming, including a year-long Battle Pass and six new operators.

[h=1]One of Rainbow Six Siege’s first maps gets an overhaul in the new season[/h]

‘Boregon’ no more; Ubisoft Montreal remodels the survivalist compound

The

Oregon, one of the maps that launched with Rainbow Six Siege in December 2015, will be getting a facelift when Year 5, Season 1 launches. Ubisoft Montreal developers showcased the changes at today’s Six Invitational, the world championship tournament for Siege. There’s also a good breakdown of what the changes involve at 5:01 of this video.
Nicholas Jolicoeur, a level designer, walked Six Invitational attendees through the new floorplan, pointing out where the old map had gone stale and what he has done to freshen that up. “After all this time, the players have kind of figured it out,” he acknowledged. It’s especially important to change the map considering its frequency of use in esports.

Ubisoft Montreal/UbisoftOregon is set in a survivalist compound in the Pacific Northwest, hence its name. Its main building has three levels, and there’s also a small office tower with which most hardcore Siege players are back-of-the-hand familiar. In the update, an expanded freezer section will be added to the basement, giving Attackers a new wall to break through and a new route to the objective.
The Tower section will no longer house the objective, because that had broken down to “an easy three-step win for the Attackers,” Jolicoeur said. “Pop in some smoke, send Montagne, send the defuser right after him, back up, and profit. It’s not that easy, but it’s not that interesting either.” The objective has now moved to the meeting room or the kitchen. A new hallway connects those two areas, making it a shared objective for both sides. The larger tower also has a new route that bypasses the meeting room on the way into the building.

Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Void Edge, the first season of the game’s fifth year, does not yet have a launch date. Its two newest operators, Oryx and Iana, will be available on public test servers beginning Monday. There will be a Year 5 panel tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. EST, during which more details are expected, as the Six Invitational winds to a conclusion

[h=1]Rainbow Six Siege PS4 or Xbox One disc will work on PS5 or Xbox Series X[/h]

Cross-generation play should include cross-generation progression, too

Rainbow Six Siege will support cross-generation matchmaking when the next-generation consoles launch this holiday season, Ubisoft announced. That means that PlayStation 4 owners can participate with PlayStation 5 users, Xbox One and Xbox Series X players may play together, and no one has to buy a second copy of the game.
“The game will be backwards compatible, meaning that you can take your disc of Rainbow Six Siege on PS4 and put it in your PS5, or take your Xbox One disc and put it in your Xbox Series X,” said Leroy Athanasoff, the game’s creative director, in a Ubisoft blog post on Thursday.
“What we know for sure is that we don’t want to break our community, to split our community, and we don’t want to make you buy another Rainbow 6 Siege at full price,” he added.
Windows Central reported back in February that Rainbow Six Siege’s developers hoped to bring cross-platform progression to the game, too. That is, that someone’s career, stats, and unlocks would carry from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, for example. But “I don’t think there will ever be console cross-play with PC,” Athanasoff told Windows Central.
For the coming year, Athanasoff said players will notice a new reputation system in Siege that will “build a kind of memory,” with the intent of thwarting and sanctioning toxic behavior. Toxic behavior, Athanasoff said, is more than just abusive dialogue in party chat. “You are going to decrease your score by doing mean and toxic actions,” he said.
But it’s not dependent on other players tattling on transgressors (a feature that could itself be exploited in a toxic way). “There is no way for people to impact your behavior score by avoiding or reporting you,” Athanasoff said.
“We will give you warnings, give you notifications, so you know,” he added. “I am not too much into punishment and stuff like that; I’m more into prevention and incentivizing to give you opportunity, feedback and notifications to do good stuff.”
Rainbow Six Siege launched in 2015, and is now in the fifth year and first season of its content cycle — Operation Void Edge, which introduced two new playable characters to a cast of more than 50.
