@Necrokiller how much of the side quests and exploring did you do in your play through ?
Based on the Map stats: Midguard regional completion is between 55-75%. Alfheim in total above 50% as well. These numbers take into account your usual "Kill/Find X number of things" collectible quests as well. "Rare" items are given in story progression and are placed directly in your path. There is a fair amont of backtracking as well so after acquiring new abilities, I looted the previously inaccessible chests as well. There wasn't a lot of incentive to go out of your way to explore.

No, I meant below the review aggregate average.

Nioh, HZD were a 9 though. Also 10/10 for Mario and Zelda :p ResetERA meltdowns were hilarious though. They had to shut down the thread lol

Surprised to read that EDGE reviewer echoed similar complaints as I did:

God of War - slightly too long and begins to feel overstretched, issues with pacing.
Combat shows its limitations at higher difficulties too. But I think most reviewers played at Give Me a Story or Balanced.

There will always be outliers to the aggregate.

But 90+ reviewers rating it an average of 95 means it's an overwhelming success, no ? :p

I reached the second main story realm last session. Will play a couple of more hours today.

Asking me if it's better than Breath of Wild is probably gonna get you a one sided answer :p not because I'm 'teh $ony fanboy', but because Nintendo IP is not appealing to me at all.

I also wanted to mention something regarding the 'one long camera shot'.

I think there are several spots where they've tried to hide the loading screen:
1 - Realm travel hub
2 - Portals

The screen fades to white for 1-2 seconds (maybe its faster on the Pro?), and the temporary area where you are transported to, that's basically a glorified loading screen. Much like how in Assassin Creed games when you die you can still control your character and run around while the game loads. You can notice that when you try to sprint and I once ran full circle and the portal wasn't there. It appear some moments afterwards.

And there is one elevator ride at the end which was way too slow and long.

i got my copy of the game yesterday first 3 hours thoughts

- i started the game on hard so it will give me a challenge but the problem with hard in god of war is.. its not hard because of enemies where u dodge and hit .. they made it hard by putting more hordes in battle and u dying of hits coming from out of sight location.

-Graphics are amazing

- the first cutscenic fight was superb mature shots n stuff

- still the hard mode is annoying it feels like this game wasn't supposed to be played for the combat rather for story which isn't cool. (hard was supposed to be like dark souls which is hard but fun this isn't fun)

Ahhhh, finally finished it!

I mentioned before in this thread that I've played every GoW game yet but was never particularly fond of the series. Kratos was never a likeable character. Even when Acension, Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta provided some backstory, it made very little difference. So God of War, to me, was a series that I played only because it was a PS exclusive that had enjoyable gameplay and my interest in Greek mythology.

This game changes all of that. It made Kratos more human than I thought was possible. His hesitance to kill is made obvious right in the beginning of the game, and you can tell Kratos regrets his past actions. Seeing the man who ripped off Helios' head and used it as a friggin' lantern actually show some emotion, other than pure rage, was a fresh change.

The gameplay was more fun when you had, what, 10 weapons to pick from? But the axe was a great weapon and because of how smooth the combat is, it's hard to get bored. Even though the number of weapons has drastically been reduced, one thing didn't change: whenever enemies show up, you never feel annoyed because it's just plain fun to beat them.

The story. Terrific. I agree it was a little slow after the first boss fight, but it got better before it started to drag on. You can argue that a good portion of the game is just glorified fetch quests but to me, it was the interactions between Kratos and Atreus that occurred during said fetch quests that made the game for me.

More story thoughts:

Also, the emphasis on parents' mistakes and wanting kids to be better, the kids being arrogant little pricks, was a great theme.

Ending spoilers:

I loved the ending too. Frickin Loki! Although, Loki is supposed to be an absolute coward, so I wonder how Atreus is going to transition from his usual, somewhat confident self, to a coward. I liked that the game's ending was also the end of Kratos' and Atreus' journey. Too many times, there's always a big event waiting to happen after what you had believed to be the main goal. So, I'm glad the game ended with them spreading Faye's ashes.

Yes i regretted playing at the highest difficulty since the game isn’t challenging in a fun way.

I didn’t feel like using the axe when we get Blades of Chaos lol. Only when the game forces you.

I felt the game was light on those moments as well. Two in particular: When Atreus pulls Kratos out of the light and when they’re returning on the boat from Alfheim. Also when theyre drinking on the elevator. The only developement I saw in atreus was after he found out he's a God. He starts to betray Kratos commands and belittle the blacksmiths.

Didnt you feel the game got better when Atreus got sick? The ride back to his house and the exchange with Athena was a nice touch. Couldn’t help but think finally Kratos is free and all hell is about break loose. But that moment doesn’t last long.

The paintings depict Kratos and Atreus’ death too. Make sure to head back to their house now.

umm no, the loki in gow universe will be drastically different. He will take the reigns as the franchise lead after Kratos. Now I am not sure what direction will the sequels take. Will it be another revenge/vengeance story after Thor or Odin kills Kratos, Or will it be something completely different with Kratos acting as the mentor for the young lad so ge doesnt end up commiting the same mistakes as kratos did. In any case, both Thor and Odin are dyin’ (sm1)
