Really interested in buying a Galaxy S8, but really scared after seeing so many adds of S8 for sale with broken backs or front glass.... How do you guys take care of your devices?
Use a good (thick) case and you are good to go. The fragility is upon falling, not the build which is extremely good.

Overall, it's an extremely good smartphone, especially after recent firmware updates. Great camera.

The display is very scratch resistant and repels finger prints.

Pretty much any phone now a days breaks easily upon falling or when mishandeled (or manhandled is some cases), since S8 has curved display, when it falls, it falls on it's glass. Rhinoshield bumper or a good spigen case can protect it quite well.

On flipside, the phone is difficult to use without a grippy case as it tends to slip easily.

which cases would you suggest specifically? s8 is pretty slim, using thick cases kills its slim feel
doesn't the glass protector provides same protection though mine got loose due to cover but m still using it and did shift to invisible defender for security of screen, for back using a transparent hard case so colour can be seen too.

Being a slim phone is the reason it's fragile. Not much room to absorb impact.

Although Samsung says its the same corning gorilla glass 5 on both sides, it's not in real practice. The display is much more robust and scratch resistant than the back glass. Galaxy S8 drop test: The screen survived, but the glass back cracked - CNET

Spigen armor case or Rhinoshield is must to protect your investment. Beauty comes at a cost, and you don't want to pay it in form of replacement parts, rather pay for it as a good quality case.

OnePlus 5T is really nice. Hypnotic sold his S8 for a 5T, I'm sure there was some reason behind that.

Nokia 8 is a good choice as well, but a bit too overpriced at the moment. If you can get it from UAE through a relative, it's cheaper there.

Sold s8 and got 5t. Was using 3t before that. Extremely satisfied with 5t. Smooth as butter. Better battery life. 7 hrs sot. And love its dash charger. 30mns for almost 80% charge. Oxygen os is much better then samsung experience. Very close to stock android. Camera is maybe lower the s8 but its not my priority. But still it takes decent photos as per my liking. Portrait mode is also good. Overall great device. Also go for sandstone white version which released recently. As black color has paint chipping issue, specially with using back cover which comes in the box. I installed skin to protect mine.

Any protector recommendation for the S8?Temporarily using plastic front and back protectors. Neo Hybrid Dual Layer on the way. However I'd prefer a glass protector on the front.

Ok I suppose I'll stick with plastic. This phone seems so... fragile. I have a 3 year old Note 4 and it has hit the floor a dozen times and still works perfectly. This? I fear one drop would end it. Anyway, I ordered the casing a couple of hours ago. It should be here Saturday. I'll share a few pictures.

I've been using the film/rubber ones since the beginning.
Spigen Neoflex first and then a botched installation of the Ringke invisible defender.

I've seen plenty of reviews for glass protectors for the S8/Note8 and they're mostly crap and they come off very easily due to adhesive only being on the top and bottom bezels. There are those fancy ones that come with a bottle of glue and an installation that's more complicated than breaking into fort Knox but they're ridiculously expensive and if you screw up the installation, there's 40-50 dollars down the drain right there.

I'd suggest keeping the current protector you have and get a good case. That's what I've done. I haven't dropped my phone since the day I got it and just 2 days ago it slipped out of my hand and landed on its face, nothing happened. The slight chin on the case saved it and there wasn't a scratch on it.

Thanks for the tip. I've ordered that Spigen Neo Hybrid case from AMT and it should be here tomorrow or.. Tuesday (?). I've also ordered another plastic protector from aliexpress (along with a car fast charger and a 3m type C 3.1 cable). I'm loving the phone but kinda wish I had the Note 8. I love big screens, and these new phones are so damn sleek. Truly feels like a next-gen phone (coming from a Note 4). Any tips? So far, I haven't rooted it (rooting and custom ROMing was the first thing I did in the past). I've installed Ad Hell though.

To be honest, it doesn't require rooting.
Doing so will trip KNOX and void your warranty. And it'll break stuff like Secure Folder, Private Mode, S Health and any other apps that rely on the KNOX API.

I stopped using AdHell and switched to Disconnect Pro. It's available on the Galaxy Apps Store, costs a lot for an app (25 dollars), but it's also a KNOX based Ad-blocker that works very well.

Samsung Theme store has tons of great themes, and if those aren't enough, Substratum theme engine works without root on the S8/Note 8, it requires a paid add-on (1 dollar) and a Samsung compatible theme but it works great.
You can also do this to get Product Sans (the Pixel 2 font), and AOSP status bar icons, Pixel Navbar, etc.

Other than that, I'd recommend setting your screen resolution to full 2960x1440 since it's actually set to 1080p by default. Doing this has a minimal effect on battery life and just makes everything look way better.

Thanks. I tried the 1440p but couldn't really notice a difference (or perhaps I didn't look hard enough). I've set it to 1440p again now. And isn't Substratum quite buggy? Like when you update apps and stuff?

Takes a bit of getting used to.
Like it depends on the theme and what apps you've themed and so on.

I use Swift Black and they update fairly regularly so I'm all good. I just don't update some apps till I know that swift has included support for them in an update.

It was a bit buggy in the beginning I admit, but with the newest Substratum app (v953), it's pretty stable and I have no issues with any themed apps.

I'll give substratum a shot once I get bored of the stock look.

I kinda regret not getting a Note 8.. There is a guy selling a used N9500 (set charger) for 58,000. Phone has a scratch on the back glass. Good deal or no?
