Karach!
Running Blind >>> Desmond Bagley.

........................................................................................................................

About the book:
It all begins with a simple errand - a package to deliver. But for Alan Stewart, standing on a deserted road in Iceland with a murdered man at his feet, the mission looks far from simple. Set amongst some of the most dramatic scenery in the world, Stewart and his girlfriend, Erin, are faced with treacherous natural obstacles and deadly threats, as they battle to carry out the mission. The contents of the package are a surprise for the reader as much as for Stewart in a finale of formidable energy.

Just finished The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling, her follow up to the impossible to follow Harry Potter series. I have to say that she could not have written a book different from Harry Potter. This is a depressing, emotionally aggressive, degrading and scathing look at the lives of a small town with not a single likable character. All the lives depicted in the books are going down the drain. There is no upbeat note in the whole book. But do not be dismayed. This is not a negative aspect of the book. Through the daily lives of people in small towns, Rowling successfully draws out the beasts in people. Unhappiness eats away all the good from people. There is no substitute for living in misery. Nothing breaks spirit like being miserable and downtrodden. All relationships are screwed up. This is one of the most brutally honest books I have read.

For fans of Rowling this is a must read. She brings all her fluency, all her insights into all the nooks and crannies of her characters so deftly that within a few pages the reader is fully immersed in the town of Pagford, the small place where the book is set.

A must, must read. Do not miss it.!!

I'm halfway through Moth Smoke and it's proving to be an engaging read. Much better than The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
The Reluctant Fundamentalist was good in the first half, but kind of went downward in the second half. The ending picked it up, though.

Wow Chhowni
"How to get filthy rich in rising Asia" was a disappointment. "Moth Smoke" is Mohsin Hamid's best work in my opinion.

@FUEL2009 Recommend me a thriller that'll keep me on the edge of the seat throughout. I'm longing for one!
