TFW you don't even need an HDMI 2.1 TV for VRR when any* half decent monitor will do :p

Nearly all. Its a 2013 tech. Any monitor you buy has a higher chance of supporting VRR than not :p

Another age old technology that CerebralTiger is finding to be a "stroke of genius" just now :ROFLMAO:

Yeah but no one really cared about it until consoles started using it :p

Love it or hate it, consoles tend to set the popular trends.

Sony has confirmed that all of its existing TVs (yes, even the 2021 lineup) are expected to receive a firmware update soon that will add VRR support. The PS5 will also get VRR support around the same time. It's not an 'if', rather a 'when'.

It remains to be seen what the minimum VRR threshold at 4K 120Hz will be on these TVs. But the fact remains that LG CX is stuck at 40Hz, which in Necrokiller's own words is not ideal 🤣

LG: for our dear LG CX customers who seek wider VRR coverage, we're proud to present the LG C1:

Yikes! 🤣

In my own words a display stuck at 40Hz is not an issue for PC owners. Why leave that part out? lol

Jo TV lena hai abhi tak udhar bhi support nahi. Jo console lia hai wahan bhi nahi. Khushi check karo over technology that was on PC 8 years ago 🤣

Also, LG CX is an OLED and I'm sure CerebralTiger remembers my words regarding that. 🤣

LMAO

You mean you didn't care about it. Games don't need to specifically support it so PC gamers have been benefiting from this for a long time. Aapke budget me 8 saal baad aagaya, good for you. :p

Love it or hate it, consoles have to play catch up here.

The fact that we're talking about VRR this candidly on PG now, and not between 2013 and 2018~9 tells you everything you need to know :p

No one really knew or cared about VRR outside of some real enthusiast ass enthusiasts until consoles started adapting it.

Love it or hate it .. it's true :p

Now take PG out of that equation and replace with pretty much the entire gaming sphere on the internet, all the kids are now talking about it because consoles started adapting it. The biggest defining feature of HDMI 2.1 along with 4K/120hz is native VRR support, and the discussion is being propagated primarily by and because of the consoles.

Bass itni si baat hai :p

Gaming sphere to 2013 se baatein kar raha hai. Console gamers and TV owners had to ignore it all this time. They had no choice.

Ab bachon ka shor to ooncha hota hai, bas itni si baat hai :p

Chalo koi bat nahi, jo kam pc log 8 saal mai nahi kar sake, consoles ne 6 month mai kar diya hai.

We owe a great debt to consoles for keeping technology relevant on a mainstream level 😍

Because consoles still don't have a Display Port. PC monitors never needed HDMI 2.1 for VRR. Ye baat to abhi khud ki hai tum ne :ROFLMAO:

Aap jaisa console gamer bhi PC monitor pe shift hogaya.

You owe a great debt to an 8 years old technology that now fits your budget over a TV. Doesn't get more mainstream than that 🤷‍♂️

Jo TV lena hai abhi tak udhar bhi support nahi. Jo console lia hai wahan bhi nahi.
Ley liya tha after seeing the disappointing reviews for Sony's 2021 X90J. Here's Tamil emo boy 101 saying hi in "game changer" HDR and 120Hz 🤣

Spoiler: show

Also, LG CX is an OLED and I'm sure CerebralTiger remembers my words regarding that. 🤣
Then allow me to remind Necrokiller about the drawbacks of the CX 😄

1. The obvious one. Always a risk with in-game UI often remaining static for extended periods 🤷‍♂️

2. We've already established that HDR is a game changer. Peak brightness plays a pivotal role when it comes to tone mapping and scene highlights. It's inherently limited on an OLED panel by its ABL functionality 🤷‍♂️

3. Necrokiller has admitted in this thread that 30fps games will show up eventually on current-gen consoles, especially if one doesn't upgrade to the mid-gen refresh like he didn't. When he lands an "amazing" deal on a PS5, he too will have to play 30fps games that aren't on PC. Too bad, because 30fps content is stutter CiTy on the CX. Heck, even 60fps isn't ideal. I've personally seen a CX running BOTW on the Switch, and it ain't pretty. Yikes! 🤣

Moreover, the CX's input latency in 4k with VRR is less than desirable. At least the C1 is a worthwhile upgrade in that area.

Not sure what the issue is here. Every panel type has its inherent drawbacks. Samsung's line up has its share of problems as well, including stuttering.

The LG CX still remains the first choice for HDR gaming TVs according to Rtings, corroborating what I said :)

Meanwhile, Sony TVs remain the least favorable choice.

A Switch game looking shitty on a premium display is not the display's fault :ROFLMAO:

From that link:

Sadly, it has the risk of permanent burn-in, which is typical of OLEDs. This could pose an issue if you constantly watch the same content with static elements, but we don't expect this to be a problem for those who watch static content. On the plus side, this TV has wide viewing angles, so the image remains accurate when viewing from the side. Overall, if you want an OLED model, this is the best 4k HDR gaming TV we've tested.
Read: if you want to take the risk, this is (was, C1 is better now) the best 4k HDR gaming TV 🤣

It's a general recommendation for gaming that doesn't take specific requirements into account. The review has already pointed out how 30fps content exhibits stutter on this TV. Heck, even a 60fps frame is held for ~15ms. Stutter with 30/60fps content isn't eliminated on LCDs either, but the difference is significant. Also, peak brightness is important to "game changer" HDR. Numbers don't lie lol.

Samsung's line up has its share of problems as well, including stuttering.
Does it? For gaming? lol not nearly as much as OLED TVs.

A Switch game being stutter CiTy is absolutely the display's fault 🤣

LG released G1 for gaming, right ? Is it any better than C1 or CX ?

Also, for HDR, Sony is the best, specifically the X950H, not the 900H !

It is amazing..

I mean, it literally is the list of best HDR gaming TVs, with HDR gaming specific ratings.

If you're gonna post rtings religiously then their pick for the best HDR gaming TV being LG CX really doesn't leave much up for debate. I suppose you could replace that with either the C9 or C1. But if you want the best 'game changing' HDR gaming experience, OLED is the way to go in general and for now, LG OLEDs to be specific. Rtings agrees 🤷‍♂️

I only go to DF for their fact finding analysis (resolution, frame rate, frame pacing etc), hardly ever end up agreeing with their personal opinions.
☝

Also, even their opinion comes with a Metro Exodus-like caveat for excellence 🤣

Red sub-pixel is the fastest to degrade...yikes, no Persona 5 for OLED users lol.

I think LG hasn't sent out review units yet, but probably will soon.
