[h=1]‘Arrow’ Star Says Grant Gustin Should Play ‘The Flash’ in DC’s Movie Universe[/h]

Enough time has passed for even casual movie fans to notice that where big screen blockbusters are concerned, the superheroes of DC and Marvel Comics reign supreme. But while Marvel has dominated the box office, the combination of DC and Warner Bros. Television has taken over TV with alarming speed. Shows like Gotham, Constantine and Supergirl are spreading the comics universe to other networks, and are clearly just the beginning. But with The CW (WB’s own network) laying claim to Justice League members Arrow and The Flash, many fans suspected that a link to the budding DC Comics movie universe could be in the cards.

Rumors of Arrow star Stephen Amell joining a Justice League team-up movie have circled for some time, but speculation picked up when The Flash (a lock for any version of the League) was similarly brought to live-action by Grant Gustin, the star of one of the best pilots of the season, and The CW’s most-watched program ever.

Sadly, hopes of seeing Gustin’s take on Barry Allen alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman or Ben Affleck’s Batman were dashed; first when DC Entertainment boss Geoff Johns explained that DC’s TV and films would be separate universes, and finally, when The Flash movie was announced for 2018 with Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) in the title role.

Apparently, it isn’t just the fans who were surprised (and possibly disappointed) that Gustin’s well-received take wouldn’t make the jump to film. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Stephen Amell was asked: if a Green Arrow film was on its way, should he have the first chance at reprising the role?

The actor’s response is one with which plenty of CW fans will agree – especially where Grant Gustin’s Flash is concerned:

“Yeah. Of course. And I feel like it should be Grant doing the movie. But the important thing to remember is just because Grant Gustin plays the part of Barry Allen doesn’t mean Ezra Miller can’t also play Barry Allen. There can be different interpretations of the character. Anyone who is a fan of the comics knows the Flash character is one of the forces that leads to parallel universes.
“And who knows, they might find a fantastic actor to play Oliver Queen on the feature side who has a different take on the character. I’m certainly a departure from the typical Oliver Queen from the comic books. I just think that everybody needs to be patient with the whole thing. The fact that DC and Warner have announced all these comic book features is nothing but good for business.”

It should be pointed out that Amell is clearly stating his personal feelings, which are obviously going to be biased. Any actor charged with bringing a beloved character to life would gain a sense of attachment; it’s the same reason Liam Neeson showed enthusiasm for reprising the role of Ra’s al Ghul on Arrow (a role which ultimately went to Matt Nable). But that doesn’t mean that Ezra Miller won’t turn in one incredible performance; giving DC fans not one, but two adaptations to enjoy.

As DC’s TV universe has continued to grow, Amell has taken the task of building hype on himself (including playful jabs at the competition), so it’s no surprise to hear him offer a heartfelt reaction, followed by a clarification. Geoff Johns has also explained his view that all DC content, TV or film, is a multiverse just like the comics – there’s no ‘true’ version of Oliver Queen or Barry Allen; simply ones that certain fans will like best.

That may seem like a cop-out, but it’s one that’s existed as a comic book convention for decades. And while a Green Arrow film not starring Amell could be seen as a slam, the actor himself isn’t concerned with the difference (for the record, the film version of The Flash has been in development long before Gustin’s take). Amell has made his feelings on the notion of ‘earning’ a feature film known in the past, explaining that the old way of thinking – that TV is somehow less than film – just doesn’t apply when The CW is building a Justice League every week.

When he was asked if he was preparing himself for either making – or missing – a leap to the big screen, the actor stated that his views haven’t changed:

“I am completely indifferent. First of all, wanting a movie undersells the idea that making 23 episodes a year isn’t a huge achievement. It is, and I would put that degree of difficulty up against any feature film that has ever been made… except Lord of the Rings and that gigantic Peter Jackson-led undertaking… and maybe Titanic. But, other than those two movies, I’d put making 23 hours of interesting content in a TV season up against anything on the film side.
“It is difficult to me to want or envision an Arrow movie when we are shooting the 10th episode of our third season with 13 more episodes to go and in all likelihood 3 more seasons on the other side of that. I’m interested in keeping that content fresh. Once we get to the end of that road, maybe then I’ll shift my focus.”

There will still be fans who think Gustin’s talents are worthy of the big screen, but there is wisdom in Amell’s words. Producer Greg Berlanti has gone on record with his belief that superhero origin stories may be better suited to TV than film, and Amell seems to be citing the same reasons for his stance. For example: viewers only have weeks to wait to see a four-hour Arrow/Flash crossover event (with Firestorm and The Atom not too far behind), as opposed to years for a big screen Justice League.

What’s your take on Amell’s comments? Is Warner Bros. wise to go ‘all or nothing’ on separate universes for TV and film, or should they merge them into one – even if it means restricting the writers’ chance at controlling their own stories?

The Flash movie will be released on March 23, 2018.

[h=1]‘The Flash’ Movie Actor Ezra Miller on Playing the Character Longterm[/h]

CW’s The Flash TV series is alive and kicking, but in due time audiences will be introduced to a separate live-action incarnation of DC’s famous speedster. In Warner Bros.’ shared film universe, that superhero will be portrayed by actor Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), who is expected to appear in the two-part Justice League extravaganza, as well as his own solo vehicle in 2018.

Unlike a majority of recent WB/DC casting decisions (Ben Affleck, The Rock, Jesse Eisenberg, etc.) Miller is not a household name. He has starred in a number of well-received indie dramas (see also: We Need to Talk About Kevin), but the masses won’t become familiar with him until he dons Flash’s costume. That could be an intimidating task for a rising star, but the youngster is enthused by the opportunity presented to him.

While speaking with HitFlix, Miller discussed his feelings about being the one to portray The Flash for the next handful of years, highlighting the fact that it presents him with longterm job security:

“I’m going to say I feel really happy about it in one way because the idea of actually having a steady job in my life is actually incredibly comforting. It’s something I didn’t necessarily think I would ever have. And then of course, there are the moments when responsibility-dodging, adolescent-me is like, ‘No, I don’t want to’ [laughs]. [But] that’s a very small part. At this point, it’s a diminishing voice. Every time I think about that reality, it makes me extremely happy. I’m really stoked and I would do it for forty years. That contract could have said anything.”

Fan art by uncannyknack

Miller’s comments are not that different from the ones Henry Cavill recently made, where the Superman actor stated that he hopes to play the Last Son of Krypton “for years to come.” Starring in a major blockbuster franchise such as this can be a daunting task, and it’s easy to get burned out by the lengthy process of making just one such film. For now, though, Miller has a positive attitude and hopefully he’ll be able to bring that excitement with him to the screen when he gets his chance to play Flash.

It’s not hard to see why a thespian in his position would be so eager to take on a role like this. It’s no secret that everyone in Hollywood wants in on the superhero game; if Miller becomes a fan-favorite, his blossoming career will continue to go up and give him other opportunities to build upon his résumé. It’s true that a majority of Miller’s time will be spent in the DC universe, but as Affleck has shown, that doesn’t mean he’ll exclusively be in that world.

As for the full extent of Miller’s contract, that’s difficult to gauge at this point in time. He’s obviously on board for multiple pictures, but he played coy when it came to saying the actual length. The two Justice League films and The Flash standalone movie give us the industry-standard three movies, but there’s always the possibility for cameos in other features, or even a Flash sequel if things work out in the long run.
In the meantime, it is a positive sign for fans that the actor WB is entrusting with this part is looking forward to putting his stamp on it and carry the mantle for a number of years. Regardless of how many times we see him, we can take comfort in the fact that his mind is in the right place and he’ll try his hardest to please all the DC fans that will be carefully watching him.

The Flash will hit theaters March 23, 2018.

[h=1]‘The Flash’ Movie Seeking ’22 Jump Street’ Directors?[/h]

Warner Bros. has given moviegoers and DC Comics fans enough to discuss over the past few months, with Batman V Superman introducing as many as five Justice League superheroes, and Suicide Squad welcoming what seems like dozens of supervillains. However, the fate of a few projects remains a total uncertainty – no more notable than The Flash, starring Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower).

While the speedster earns acclaim on The CW, all talk of the big screen version ceased once Warner Bros. made its initial casting announcement. That could be changing soon, with a new report claiming the studio is currently pursuing directing duo Phil Lord & Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, 22 Jump Street) to helm The Flash solo movie in 2018.

On the latest installment of SchmoesKnow‘s MeetTheMoviePress, TheWrap‘s Jeff Sneider touched on a few DC Comics movies which, for the time being, seem to still be in the early stages of development.
But on the Flash front, Warner Bros. is swinging for the fences:

“We’ve heard a bit of a tug of war going on between Warner Bros. and Sony, which would like the same two directors for one of its big franchise movies… If Warner Bros. wanted them for The Flash, and Sony wanted them for a Ghostbusters movie, which would Lord and Miller do?”

Some time has passed since the days of Lord and Miller being mentioned for nearly every major project in development (with the Russo Brothers holding that mantle at present). It would be an understatement to say the duo has a full schedule ahead of them – producing a Greatest American Hero reboot, along with writing and producing The LEGO Movie 2 and a Batman-focused spinoff – but currently lack a directing job in the near future.

It’s particularly interesting to hear that Lord & Miller may still be in talks with Sony about a role within their budding Ghostbusters universe. Word that the studio could rely on the pair’s proven comedic track record to reboot the series was one of the first signs of real progress, with Paul Feig handling the reboot, and the Russo Brothers developing a Channing Tatum-led companion. Having seemingly passed on the opportunity, the duo pointed to a much-needed break from blockbuster filmmaking as the cause.

If they were to change that stance, then there’s little doubt Sony would be the first studio banging on their door. But having taken The LEGO Movie (a premise written off by many) and delivered a commercial and critical hit that spawned multiple spinoffs for Warner Bros, it’s no surprise the studio is eager to sign them to yet another major property. Yet the idea of a comedic take on The Flash in Zack Snyder’s Justice League universe may be the biggest surprise.

It was screenwriter Marc Guggenheim who first implied that The Flash would take a darker turn (before Man of Steel showed a more serious superhero was DC’s preferred vision), describing his now years-old treatment as part thriller, part superhero story, and part sports movie. That story was constructed with the help of Greg Berlanti, and those influences can still be seen in the TV show that the duo would go on to executive produce.

With Lord & Miller now a desired creative team, it would seem that Warner Bros. is looking for a far more comedic slant. That’s not a surprise or risk in itself, since every animated Justice League has seen that it’s the team’s speedster who tends to bring the comic relief. Miller’s energy and charm have been somewhat overshadowed by a number of dramatic roles, but fans may get to see his lighter side showcased in Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck this July.

Are you Flash fans happy to hear that the big screen version may not be as dark or grim as other DC Comics heroes? Or could this be a chance for Lord & Miller to try their hand at comedy and some character drama?

[h=1]‘The Flash’ Film Lands ‘LEGO Movie’ Writers – Will They Direct?[/h]

DC Comics fans hoping to see Barry Allen don his scarlet suit as The Flash on the big screen may have been kept waiting as the speedster found acclaim on The CW, but it’s seeming more and more likely that the wait may be worth it in the end. The casting of Ezra Miller (Trainwreck) in the role took many by surprise, but his addition to WB’s shared Justice League universe may be in better hands than fans had hoped.

Rumors had previously teased that Phil Lord and Chris Miller (responsible for 21 Jump Street, as well as writing and directing The LEGO Movie) were being courted to helm The Flash‘s solo film by the studio, but now comes confirmation that the pair are currently developing the film’s story – but have yet to decide whether they’ll direct the feature as well.

The update comes courtesy of Deadline, who report that aside from writing the script for The LEGO Movie 2 and producing the LEGO Batman spinoff, Lord & Miller are currently developing a story treatment for The Flash. The news helps to clarify the situation somewhat: since Warner Bros. has landed the minds behind their wildly successful LEGO franchise to bring The Flash to the big screen, they would no doubt be the studio’s top choice to direct.

The pair remain focused solely on developing the story for now, which in itself is confirmation of just how differently Warner Bros. now views the property’s future on film. The initial plan for The Flash movie (as dreamt up by Marc Guggenheim, Greg Berlanti, and Michael Green) was to inject the superhero genre with a dose of forensic thrillers like Se7en and Silence of the Lambs. While that would seem an obvious fit for the darker, more grounded tone of Zack Snyder’s Justice League universe, Warner Bros. appears to be taking an almost polar opposite approach.

It may be too soon to assume that The Flash movie will be an outright comedy in the vein of Lord & Miller’s other projects on TV and film, like 21 Jump Street , Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, or even Brooklyn Nine-Nine. But if there is one character set to appear in the big screen Justice League who can court a more light-hearted, thrill-seeking audience, it is most certainly The Flash. If polished comedy is the goal, then Warner Bros. has entrusted the challenge to two of the most in-demand talents around.

We’ll keep you updated as details concerning the pair’s story treatment arrive, or when the pair decide they will, or will not be directing the film as well. For now, are you pleased to hear that The Flash movie will sport a healthy sense of humor, being guided by Lord & Miller from the start?

The Flash Movie: Vampire Hunter Scribe In Talks to Write & Direct

Warner Bros. and DC is nearly done assembling a team of directors to oversee their DC Extended Universe – the shared DC movie universe that was established by Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in 2013 – on through to 2018. WB/DC is taking a so-called “filmmaker-driven” approach to building the DCEU, which is why it’s fitting that the filmmakers currently onboard for big screen DC Comics adaptations are all experienced industry veterans; including Snyder, David Ayer (Fury), Patty Jenkins (Monster), and James Wan (Furious 7).
However, the studio is now shaking things up a bit with The Flash, its 2018 film release that will be anchored by Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) in the role of Barry Allen. WB/DC has now reportedly entered negotiations with screenwriter/author Seth Grahame-Smith to make the project his feature-length film directorial debut.

THR has the exclusive on Grahame-Smith being in talks to both write and direct The Flash, based on a story treatment that was put together by Jump Street and LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The latter pair of filmmakers were, at one point, considering helming The Flash themselves, but have since committed to directing a young Han Solo movie for Disney/Lucasfilm – a project that’s also scheduled for arrival in 2018, like Miller’s solo DC superhero adventure.

Grahame-Smith, who has previously directed episodes of the TV show The Hard Times of RJ Berger, made the jump from author and TV show writer to movie screenwriter in 2012, with his scripts for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows (which WB distributed) and Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (based on Grahame-Smith’s novel of the same name). Both movies earned a middling reception on the whole, but ended up turning a profit at the worldwide box office all the same.
Grahame-Smith was then hired to put together a version of Beetlejuice 2 for Burton and WB that could start filming in 2016; he also wrote the studio’s LEGO Batman movie now scheduled to reach theaters in 2017. In other words: Grahame-Smith has quickly become one of WB’s trusted collaborators, where it concerns the studio’s lucrative franchises and long-established intellectual properties.
Still, the lack of experience behind the camera on Grahame-Smith’s side does make it difficult to predict whether or not his involvement bodes well for The Flash; at the least, he’s not a filmmaker who has a clearly defined style, unlike the other candidates on WB/DC’s director roster (or Lord and Miller for that matter). Then again, if there’s any one Justice League member solo movie that should deviate from the “edgy” style of other DC films, it’s The Flash – and a comparatively playful superhero flick is exactly what Grahame-Smith seems most likely to deliver with his first big-budget movie directing job.
Yes, we know that’s Wally West, but the image is still appropriate!

Case in point: when you look at Grahame-Smith’s current writing resume, you see he has a knack for combining superhero-esque action with tongue in cheek humor (see also his Pride and Prejudice and Zombies novel), and has a proven talent for telling coming of age stories, with his work on The Hard Times of RJ Berger. All three of those ingredients should be called for in a Barry Allen solo movie narrative (much like they figure into The CW’s Flash TV series), so Grahame-Smith seems qualified to take on The Flash in that respect.
As for the quality of his work – it’s true that Grahame-Smith has yet to work on a widely-acclaimed feature film, as screenwriter. He’s clearly on a learning curve as a storyteller, though; and if the Russo brothers can go from directing You, Me and Dupree to making Captain America: The Winter Soldier some years later, there’s hope yet for Grahame-Smith to impress the masses with a big screen version of The Flash.

I'm not that interested in this movie, because Grant Gustin is the true Flash to me. Ezra Miller is some stoned gay emo looking kid, who doesn't fit the image of Barry Allen.

Though since 22 Jump street producers are involved, and i like Flash in general, i will check it out. But zero hype for this movie, unless a trailer manages to impress me.

[h=1]The Flash Movie Costume May Be ‘Tech-Based’ To Avoid TV Show Comparisons[/h]

As Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment begin piecing together the Flash solo movie for a March 2018 release, there’s one major hurdle that they’re going to have to clear. A well-received live action interpretation of the character currently exists on CW’s The Flash TV show – and since WB remains committed to keeping the films and television programs separate endeavors, potential writer/director Seth Grahame-Smith is tasked with making his version stand on its own.
Since both projects feature Barry Allen as the Flash (Ezra Miller will portray him in the movie), it means Grahame-Smith will have to get creative when it comes to differentiating his take on the Scarlet Speedster. And he may have found a way to do just that, thanks to a new costume for the superhero.

Den of Geek is reporting that in the Flash movie, Allen will be wearing a “tech-based” suit that resembles armor. The intention with this move is to avoid any comparisons to the TV costume, which has won over fans. There will still most likely be viewers debating over which version is “better,” but it is a smart idea to go in a completely different direction as opposed to trying to replicate what’s shown on the TV series.
It’s plausible that Allen’s outfit from the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game will serve as the basis for inspiration when designing the movie suit. That costume certainly has a distinct look that fits the rumored description of an armored look. A variation of this would also fit aesthetically into the DC Expanded Universe, as the costumes worn by Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice all look like they’d be suitable for military applications. Arguably, the Flash might look out of place with a different style of costume.
The Flash in Injustice: Gods Among Us

Another noteworthy element of the Den of Geek report is the claim that in the film, Allen will be a “tech geek,” meaning that he could design the suit himself as opposed to looking for outside help (which would be another key difference from the TV show). Given that Allen’s day job is a forensic scientist, it’s logical that he would be interested in developing bit of technology in his spare time, so this wouldn’t be a stark deviation from the spirit of the character. His prowess in the scientific field could be a useful trait as he fights alongside his fellow Justice League members, providing them with gadgets to gain an upper hand on their enemies.
What’s interesting is that this rumor seems to apply only to the Flash standalone movie, which hits theaters a few months after the first Justice League film premieres. It’s all but a given that Miller’s Flash will take part in the big team-up, so he could be wearing different duds in Justice League before upgrading to an armor-based costume in his own vehicle. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a superhero’s outfit received some changes between appearances, but it would be a curious decision on WB’s part to create two radically diverse outfits for movies that will be following each other in quick succession.
Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in his Flash outfit from the CW TV series

With the speculation about the costume coming out now (roughly three years from the film), a more likely scenario is that this armored costume will also be Allen’s outfit of choice in the Justice League film. Based on rumors, it appears as if he’s been operating as the Flash for some time during the events of Batman V Superman, indicating there’s a chance he’s already perfected his suit design when we first meet him in the DCEU. If WB’s intention is for there to be a clear divide between the TV series and the movies, it wouldn’t make sense to wait until the Flash solo film to update the costume.

[h=1]The Flash: Ezra Miller Talks About His Version of Barry Allen[/h]

Ever since the worldwide success of The Avengers in 2012, movie studios have been racing to create their own shared universe. Disney has a whole crop of superheroes and story lines with Marvel Studios under its corporate umbrella, so it made sense that Warner Bros. would follow suit with its own superheroes from DC Entertainment. Unlike Disney and Marvel, however, WB doesn’t plan to combine their TV properties with their superhero movies in the DC Cinematic Universe.
It seems like the smarter way to go, considering that it must be harder to juggle multiple movie story lines with TV and Netflix offerings. DC’s approach appears to be simpler with the idea of separating superhero TV and movies, so the entire shared universe doesn’t get overly complicated or convoluted. Since DC TV shows and movies don’t take place in the same universe, there are two versions of The Flash. Although we don’t know much about the movie version, its star has offered a little bit of insight into what he hopes to bring to the “Scarlet Speedster.”

In an interview with EW, Ezra Miller explained how his version will be a more flawed version than his TV counterpart, played by Grant Gustin. While both actors are playing the Barry Allen version, Miller says his character will be grounded in reality, as a way to balance between his heroism and humanity:
“I’d like for it to be an exploration of a human being, a multi-dimensional human being, to speak. I’d like the character to have many dimensions. But really, I’d like him to have the usual dimensions we know and love, and then some extra ones that are part of the amazing consideration of this superhero. I hope to realize him as a person, and I think what’s most exciting for me in superhero mythologies is when we feel the humanity of someone who is heroic — or the heroism of someone who is a flawed, deeply human person.”
Ezra Miller in We Need to Talk About Kevin

The DC Extended Universe seems considerably grittier and darker when compared to the superhero TV shows from DC Entertainment, so it makes sense that the movie version is more complex and nuanced than his TV counterpart. That said, it just seems that having two versions of The Flash might confuse the average movie-goer or TV viewer.
At the moment, Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is the frontrunner for helming the new Flash movie, which would be his directorial debut. It was originally developed by The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who have committed to Disney and Lucasfilm’s standalone young Han Solo Star Wars movie instead. It’s unclear when The Flash would be introduced in the DC Cinematic Universe, but it’s likely that we’ll see the “Crimson Comet” in Justice League Part One in 2017 before he gets his own movie the following year.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016, which is followed by Suicide Squad on August 5, 2016; Wonder Woman on June 23, 2017; Justice League Part One on November 17, 2017; The Flash on March 23, 2018; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and then Green Lantern Corps. on June 19, 2020.

The Flash Movie CW Preview Teases Barry Allen’s Origins & Backstory

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=NxiSV0d_6Vw

With the release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in a few months, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are getting ready to expand their superhero movies into a larger Justice League shared universe. Although Marvel Studios is currently dominating the comic book movie landscape, DC is looking to rival Marvel’s success with Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad this year.
Last night, Warner Bros. aired the DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League TV special on The CW as a first look into all the movies going into the larger DC Expanded Universe. While the special mainly focused on Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman, it also touched upon the other movies and superheros that will make up the larger comic book movie shared universe, such as the Green Lantern Corps, Cyborg, Aquaman, and The Flash.

While it’s unclear how The Flash will be introduced into the Justice League, we know that his solo movie will be released in March 2018, a few months after Justice League Part One in November 2017. There aren’t a lot of details available about the new movie, but Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is expected to direct from his own screenplay, based on a story developed by LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

[h=1]Grant Gustin ‘Fully Supports’ Ezra Miller as Movie Flash[/h]

In terms of expansive comic book universes, Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe has pioneered a version of cohesive multimedia continuity for its superhero franchises wherein the events of their movies, television shows and Netflix series are designed to be happening in-tandem, with events from one medium effecting the others and characters (most of the time) able to cross over between platforms. At the same time, rival studio Warner Bros. has opted to go a different route with their DC superheroes, in TV series like The CW’s Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and the web series Vixen all take place in a shared continuity of their own, they do not (officially) connect to the continuity of either CBS’ Supergirl or the emerging DC Extended Universe spinning-out of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Fans have reacted with mixed feelings, with many who’ve already become loyal to one version of their favorite hero resenting the idea of being asked to accept another existing in an adjacent franchise.
But one person who’s not upset is Grant Gustin, who portrays the speed-powered Barry Allen on the hit CW series The Flash. In fact, the actor isn’t having any of this hero-vs-hero talk, and recently took to Twitter to clarify that he has no issue with someone else donning the Scarlet Speedster’s tights for the Justice League movie.

Reacting to some news outlets erroneously reporting that he was somehow unhappy with another actor taking on the role for the movie side of the DC Universe, Gustin posted a snap of a lengthy text explaining his thoughts in greater detail that he doesn’t condone the “bashing” of prospective “Movie Flash” Ezra Miller, despite having “liked” several Tweets from fans who had expressed their desire to see him continue the role instead.

Gustin recently stated:
“I fully support Ezra Miller as Barry Allen and the Flash on the feature side of DC. I’ve never met the guy, but I think he is a fantastic and interesting actor. Would I have liked to play Barry Allen in a film? Sure. I love this character and it has changed my life and making movies and tv is something I hope to be fortunate enough to do for the rest of my life. I “liked” some tweets from fans that expressed their support of me and said they would’ve enjoyed seeing me in the movie. Nothing of anyone “bashing” Ezra. I don’t condone that type of behavior (especially on the Internet) and I definitely don’t partake.”
Miller is set to play The Flash in the first Justice League movie (it is rumored but unconfirmed that he may also briefly appear in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) before spinning the character off into a solo feature of his own. Thus far, The Flash is the only League member to be appearing concurrently in a different franchise, but not the only DC character, as Amanda Waller, one of the primary antagonists of the upcoming Suicide Squad set to be portrayed by Viola Davis, already exists on Arrow in the person of actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson.
If Miller’s Flash does in fact arrive on the big screen in BVS, it will be interesting to see how fans react, and whether or not the character makes a strong initial impression or if he is immediately compared to his television counterpart.

[h=1]The Flash Producer Implies That Cyborg Will Co-Star[/h]

As those who have seen the movie already know, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice offers several tantalizing teases for upcoming movies in the DC Extended Universe – not only by giving Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) a proper introduction, but also by offering a first glimpse of other Justice League members like The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa).
Miller in particular faces perhaps a greater challenge than any of the DCEU’s other new stars, since he will inevitably end up facing comparisons to The CW’s popular The Flash TV show, which stars Grant Gustin in the title role. Moreover, since Barry Allen is established as already having superpowers by the time of Batman V Superman, and he won’t appear in his own solo movie until after the release of Justice League, it’s reasonably safe to assume that The Flash won’t be an origin story – at least, not primarily.
That leaves the question of what kind of movie The Flash will be, and DCEU producer Deborah Snyder has just offered a big hint. Speaking to Forbes about the upcoming collection of DC movies, Snyder revealed that The Flash will feature Cyborg in what sounds like a pretty substantial role:

“As you can imagine, when we get to the Flash movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher — who plays Cyborg — are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice camaraderie with each other. Ezra is super funny, so the tone of that film will be very different than the rest of them.”
“Funny” has seemingly been the watchword at Warner Bros. since many of Batman V Superman‘s reviews criticized the movie for being too dark; in fact, this year’s supervillain team-up Suicide Squad is rumored to be undergoing reshoots that will provide some lighter material for the final edit. Miller got a chance to demonstrate his comedy chops in last year’s raunchy romantic comedy Trainwreck, but he is perhaps better known for his role in the grim drama We Need To Talk About Kevin. He also starred in 2012 coming-of-age drama The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Fisher, meanwhile, is something of an unknown quantity, since Cyborg is his first feature film role.

Ray Fisher (Cyborg) and Ezra Miller (The Flash)

Snyder also re-emphasized that Warner Bros. is a “director-driven company” and that “it’s all about the director’s point of view and what they can bring to it.” The Flash is being written and directed by Seth Grahame-Smith, who has never directed a feature film before but did write the genre mash-up novels Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, both of which have been adapted for the screen.
Of course, Snyder’s comment shouldn’t necessarily be taken to mean that The Flash will be a team-up movie in which Cyborg plays a huge role. In fact, knowing how easily interview quotes can take on a different context when written down, there’s a possibility that she was only talking about Miller and Fisher’s chemistry as an aside, and that Fisher won’t appear in Miller’s movie at all. But given the interconnected nature of these movies, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see the various Justice League members making appearances in each other’s movies.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justiceis now playing in U.S. theaters. Suicide Squad will arrive on August 5, 2016, followed by Wonder Woman on June 23, 2017; Justice League Part One on November 17, 2017; The Flash on March 16, 2018; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps. on June 19, 2020.
