Well its never ending thing. New Ryzens and new GPUs will be there in market all the time. For now need a good setup that can run latest games for atleast in optimum settings for 2 years

Easily 4+ years of gaming, 4 more if you upgrade your GPU after 4 years, total 8 years of great gaming experience.

The GPU alone will set you back around 130k new, the CPU and board another 100k. Around 20k for ram, around 25k for the SSD. I'm assuming the PSU and cooler will cost you another 25-30k. So the total would be be 300k+ in Pakistan.

And The LCD, keyboard, mouse and speakers + computer desk and gaming chairs are pending.

Its been a while since I bought a new PC. I am too old now and buying for my son. I bought top of the line in 40k at my time and was so proud of it. Everything has gone so expensive

I get that, I built one back in 2001 for that same price and thought it was expensive :D.
I think you can do with better with a mix of used and new parts; might save some money and won't end up paying the crazy premiums in the Pakistani markets.

It would be cheaper to buy a PS4 Pro or PS5 and buy a simple PC for studies for your son. Gaming PC wil cost you a lot both in terms of upfront and operational cost i.e. electricity bills.
You might be right for an Adult. But kids won't take interest in computer of there's no entertainment. He has a PS5 already and been playing on it for past 4 to 5 months, but I consider that complete waste of time . With gaming PC he will accidently learn computer while playing games on it

That is a good idea.

But I advise you to get actively involved with your son in programming.

I was a gamer addict during my teenage years. My late father had bought me a PS1. Later he also bought me the best of the line PC at the time...(Pentium II in 1999).

But he was busy all the time. And I used to play nothing but games in it for 14 hours plus.

My parents did not set any limits.

It is vital to limit his gaming hours to just 4 hours a day. And no after midnight gaming.

Get him interested in programming logic and coding or the networking side of computer.

Without your active involvement and limits he will waste away his life just like I did. It was not until in my mid 20s that I got over the gaming addiction and my life.

I believe a gaming laptop will be better. It will save you a lot in electricity bills as compared to a gaming desktop PC ... 200 watts for gaming laptop vs 700+ watts for gaming desktop.

The higher upfront cost will be recovered in the form of savings in bills over time.

Here are links to a recommended gaming laptop. The laptop is more powerful than a PS5.

  • Intel Core i7 12700H 12th Generation | 16GB DDR4
  • 1TB SSD | 15.6 FHD 240Hz | 8GB Nvidia RTX3070 Graphics
  • Windows 11 Home | Backlit LED KB | International Warranty /Black
  • 180 watts adapter
  • Rs. 360K (£1599)

Appreciate all the feedback. That's a nice piece of advice. Coding is nice idea and might just involve him in that.

I tried to convince him on Gaming laptop but he didn't agree. But anyway too late for that as I already bought him a PC. I guess you missed the thread
