My Pixel got overheated and the circuit kinda got fried.

I bought another motherboard from China but the repair guy said I will have to PTA approve it again.

Is this true? If so, can't I have it approved again without paying cause this is really stupid since it is the same phone just with a new motherboard.

Any help?

Hi Man,
Sorry to hear this.

As for the Approval, I think there is a hack for that. I don't know the exact method but you can change your phone's IMEI to the previous one (the board which got fried). That IMEI is not going to be used by anyone else so you will be safe. Google how to change IMEI and you will find the method with some trial and error. Once the IMEI is changed to that you are good to go.

Yes, because IMEI is located on the motherboard. When you change the motherboard, it's IMEI is also changed in the process. The new IMEI will need to be approved again.

As the above person has mentioned, If your phone allows bootloader unlocking, you will likely be able to root the phone & change the IMEI manually. This way you can flash your old IMEI onto the new motherboard.

Only option you are left with is to pay the taxes again or simply toss the phone and buy another.

Pixels do not allow imei repairs (patching) so you won't be able to use your pervious imeis.

In case like this, better buy a new one rather than fixing it since it will just add up on your stress.
