Hello,

i was looking to upgrading my gpu, but confused a bit between these two. R9 390x and gtx 980.

i am quite attracted to r9 390x right now, because of its lower price, 'not so different than 980's' performance, and that 8 gb ram. I realize 8gb is quite overkill for 1080p gaming, but i am just trying to be future secure. But the downside seems to be its power hunger. I have got a 600 watt 80+ plus PSU. Can anyone please confirm if i can run this card?

The thing about 980 is its power efficiency. I cannot upgrade my psu. So if i cant run 390x on my 600, i think i would have to get 980

I'd really appreciate if someone could shed some light here. Please confirm me if i can run 390x on 600watt psu. And please correct me if i am mistaken about something.

thanks.

I have a Xigmatek NRP602 600W PSU. Will this run 980 easily(and I mean any 980 variant)? How to check if my PSU is capable or not
if the PSU in good working condition then it should run gtx980, ...
don't use two PCIE connectors of the single cable, rather use one PCIE of each cable, mean use both cables those have PCIE connectors

yup that one.
bought it new. But it's been running very fine for the last three years. I am using 6950 and 2600k, never faced an issue.
Is it time i change it?
i said that keeping in my corsair and similar class PSUs..
so if it is working is perfect then it should run a gtx 980...

how much does 390x need?
I have read a lot of reviews on internet that says it can work with a 600 watt. What do you think should be an optimal for 390x?

oh, just read that page you shared.
but it says 600 can run 390x?

i have VX550W and FSP 450W. VX550 is Enthusiasts Series and can run 970, 280x comfortably.

But in current scenario, vx550w cannot even run 7850 while Gaming, keep on shuting down GPU after 15mins gameplay. But FSP 450W psu running runs 7850 smooth, Even overclock also good. So you need 100% PErfect PSU whatever brand is. some imported brands are really good but not known here.

you will have to pay higher difference if you go with 980, how ever 390x at very good price around 50K. But you can get 980 G1 in 50K under limited used, Good condition. I thnk you should go with 980 Smooth Gaming. And 600w fine if it is 100% functional.

Nah man, cant go for a used one. Have to get it new. That's why i am so much inclined towards 390x

i have got FSP 600 watt. Would it be fine with 390x?

Saadi939 if you have to do just Gaming then 390X is Perfect for you also it is In Budget, But if you have to do other works and gaming eg rendering, media editing, ect . and if you have Some Extra Money then go for 980,,, i am also a AMD user and it is not a single point less than NVIDIA Except for some shader clocks or boost clocks

My Advise : Go For 390X
