When Fox’s Gotham was given a series order last May, many wondered just how a show set in Gotham City without Batman would work. The answer so far this season has been by introducing and developing as many supporting characters from the Batman universe as possible. In season 1 alone, Gotham has teased a slew of Batman villains, including The Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, the Red Hood, The Riddler and even The Joker.

And the trend of comic book characters appearing on the series will to continue in season 2. Now that Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney is on the way out, and Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox is coming in, Gotham should be a very different show next year. For one, season 2 will finally see young Bruce Wayne perfecting his fake billionaire playboy persona of the future, while James Gordon continues to decide how far he’ll go to fight corruption in the city.

But some things will also stay the same, like more Batman villains making their way to the series. At today’s WonderCon panel for Gotham, producer John Stephens told the audience that Clayface and The Mad Hatter are coming in season 2:

“Clayface and Mad Hatter are both villains we’re going to bring in [as well]. They both have great backstories and great personalities. Clayface especially is a character I want to [explore the origin of].”
There’s also at least one more villain on the horizon. Mr. Freeze is a character that has been talked about before, and it seems we might finally get to see him next season. Stephens hinted at how he might appear on the show:

“We always want to walk the fine line of the reality of our world. Walking right up to that line where super-villains live. So there are a lot of characters from Batman lore that fit that bill. People like Victor Fries – who’s a science villain. You can play a lot of his abilities without going into the world of superheroes.”

And what of Gotham’s corruption? Is there a more calculated force at work in the city? Stephens says we’ll just have to wait and see:

“The Court of Owls is something we’ve discussed a lot. We keep digging up very close to it without quite pulling the trigger. It’s clear that there is a group of shadowy individuals that control and influence Wayne Enterprise and have great power in Gotham and may or may not be connected to Carmine Falcone. Is that The Court of Owls? Maybe… Keep watching and those questions will be answered.”

While Gotham has turned out to be, just as people surmised, a show focused on creating the world of Batman, the ride to get there this season has still been an exciting one. It’s been fascinating to see each character’s origin story played out onscreen and interweaved with the show’s own brand of mythology.

As Stephens explained to the audience: “There’s so much media about these [characters], but want to approach it in a fresh new way,” through what he calls an unknown “underground tunnel.” So while it’s true that these characters are already well-known, Stephens has proven time and again that there are many paths to take to show what they’ll become.

What do you think, Screen Rant readers? Are you happy with Gotham‘s portrayal of the classic Batman villains? Excited to see Clayface, Mad Hatter and Mr. Freeze in season 2? Let us know in the comments.
Gotham returns Monday, April 13th @8pm on Fox.

[h=1]‘Gotham’ Season 2 Looking to Cast A Pair Of New Villains[/h]

[SPOILERS for Gotham season one ahead.]–
Gotham‘s young Bruce Wayne may have years, even decades, to go before donning the iconic cape and cowl, but that hasn’t stopped the show from introducing most of the equally iconic rogues gallery, killing off an integral Bat-lore villain, and even opening the (potential) batcave – all in season one. While the series’ overall success has been loudly divisive and its campy-gritty tone consistently unsure, one thing is certain: Gotham is moving fast out of the gate. Or at least, its villains are.
The question we have posed time and time again here remains the same: is it wise to provide fans with a batch of full-fledged Batman villains when the hero himself is still battling puberty? Probably not, which is why the show would benefit from slowlyand steadilydeveloping its core rogues (Penguin, Riddler, Joker, etc.) while simultaneously exploring lesser known DC villains and crafting new, original enemies (a la Fish Mooney) for James Gordon to face off against in the next season.

From The Web

According to TVLine, Fox is looking to cast a pair of new villains for season two: a “male DC villain” described as “intelligent, cultured and highly articulate,” “extremely attractive, both seductive and threatening” as well as a “sexy knowck-out” female villain in her “mid-to-late 20s”.
Although designating the former as a “DC villain” implies the character has his roots in comic book mythology, it is possible he will not be an early incarnation of Clayface or Mad Hatter – both promised to debut in season two – but rather, a less notorious foe ripe for exploration and expansion (especially considering the well of Batman rogues yet to be explored onscreen, big or small). The description is oddly similar, if not an exact match, to the Ogre’s character, but there’s hope the writers will make him more than just another relatively stereotypical, bland serial killer.

Similarly, with two thirds of Batman’s femme fatale trinity already introduced (Catwoman and Posion Ivy) – and Harley Quinn primed to be around the same age as or younger than future Joker, Jerome – it would seem the 20-something “knockout” will either be an original character or an obscure foe like Magpie. Both are promising options that will lend Gotham the showand Gotham the city a few new layers to dig into.
Overall, although the Ogre proved to be quite underwhelming in terms of creativity and motive, there’s no denying his multi-episode arc – and the mystery surrounding his character – brought an upswing to Gotham‘s latter half (as did the two-part Scarecrow spotlight). It also provided a breath of fresh air to the one-and-done “monster of the week” format that had monopolized many of the weaker episodes (i.e. “Harvey Dent” and “LoveCraft“).
That said, the series succeeded most when it emphasized side characters/villains and used them as catalysts for the main characters’ development. With two new foes on the horizon – along with the return of young Joker and a deeper, darker focus on Edward Nygma – Gotham has the potential and need to improve upon its opening act.

[h=1]‘Gotham': Harvey Dent Added as Series Regular For Season 2[/h]

With Bruce Wayne still battling adolescence, Gotham managed to draw in plenty of viewers not with the promise of a caped, crusading hero – but his future rogues gallery. Watching the colorful characters show hints of the supervillains they will one day become is as compelling as it is tortuous (or torturous) – and the writers know it, too, drowning viewers with on-the-nose easter eggs, tongue-in-cheek references, and a slow burn development.

It’s quite ironic, considering the show survives exactly because fans want it to end – or, at least, to see it end – and see the metamorphosis of its characters completed. On the back of news that Gotham is looking to cast two new DC villains for season two – in addition to greater emphasis being placed on Joker and Riddler’s story lines, as well as the introduction of Clayface and Mad Hatter – the show’s very own Nicholas D’Agosto has confirmed via Twitter that he will return as a series regular come fall. From The Web

While casual viewers know D’Agosto simply as the charming district attorney Harvey Dent, comic fans know him as the future bipolar criminal mastermind, Two-Face. Season one introduced Dent in the former half of the season, forging early on his valiant alliance with James Gordon and cementing his ambitious desire to rid Gotham of corruption and crime – to become its much needed “White Knight.”
And last we saw him in “Everyone Has a Cobblepot”, he was directly acting on that desire, teaming up with Gordon to take down corrupt Commissioner Loeb.

Thank you to all of you @Gotham and #HarveyDent fans for your enthusiasm. I can't wait to join more of the fun as a regular in Season 2!
— Nicholas D'Agosto (@nicholasdagosto) May 27, 2015
In terms of character arcs, Harvey Dent’s is one of the most purely tragic; it’s a traditional fall from grace origin, in which the hero becomes the villain – or, as The Dark Knight‘s Aaron Eckhart put it, the hero “lives long enough to see himself become the villain.” That said, his descent into villainy is not entirely unexpected. In fact, several of Two-Face’s qualities, most notably his manic anger and a compulsive obsession with flipping coins, have already begun to manifest in the bright-eyed do-gooder, casting an ominous shadow of what’s to come.
If Gotham adheres to its source material, fans will have to wait a long time before that shadow ever reaches its full length, considering Dent does not (traditionally) become Two-Face until after Bruce becomes Batman. However, the show has not been shy about deviating from comic lore, prompting many to view the storyline as a separate or alternate versionto the original – so it might have to when eventually dealing with Two-Face’s origin (that is, if it ever shows it).

In the comics, it’s Sal Maroni who throws acid at Dent’s face, hideously scarring his skin. But with Maroni out of the picture following the season one finale, the show will have to find another catalyst or ‘straw’ to break Dent’s back – and psyche.
Are you looking forward to more Harvey Dent in season 2? Or would you rather the show have waited to introduce him? Let us know in the comments.
Gotham season 2 will premiere in fall 2015.

[h=1]‘Gotham’ Season 2 Adds Chris Chalk’s Lucius Fox as Series Regular[/h]

When Gotham was first announced, it was portrayed as a DC Comics TV series that would follow many popular characters from the books before they became the heroes or villains known to the fans. However, Gotham also features a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), who was set on the path to becoming the caped hero Batman in the show’s pilot episode. Then, at the end of Gotham’s first season, Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) – character from the comics known to help Batman with his efforts to fight crime in the city – was introduced.
Now, after helping Bruce to uncover the existence of an underground chamber (read: the Batcave) beneath his father’s home office in the season 1 finale, Lucius Fox will return in season 2 to continue aiding Bruce’s evolution into Batman.

From The Web

TVLine is reporting that Chalk (Homeland, The Newsroom) has been bumped up to a series regular for Gotham’s second season. He only appeared in one season 1 episode, “The Anvil or the Hammer”, in which he was introduced as a Wayne Enterprises junior executive and the company’s resident tech genius – with some inexplicable knowledge about Thomas Wayne.
Gotham executive producer John Stephens talked about the role Lucius will play in season 2:
“[Lucius] becomes another person who’s going to help Bruce on his journey to find out what happened to his parents and what his parents were doing, and also his journey to manhood and Batman-hood. [Adult Bruce is] like a science genius, and some of that’s going to come from Lucius Fox.”
In the weeks since Gotham’s season 1 finale, the series has bolstered its cast going into season 2. Both Morena Baccarin, who plays Dr. Leslie Thompkins, and Nicholas D’Agosto, who portrays Harvey Dent, have been added as series regulars as well for season 2. Additionally, Fox’s DC Comics series will be adding two so-far-unknown villains to the ranks next season.

Although Gotham follows many different characters around the famed city – including Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and a host of villains-in-the-making – Bruce has been at the heart of the series. His evolution began in the pilot with the murder of his parents and continued throughout season 1. Now, with Chalk joining Gotham as a series regular, it seems the series will continue to follow Bruce on his path to becoming Batman.
Whether or not a Batman prequel series is truly what viewers were hoping to see when tuning in to Gotham, that is now (at least partly) what the show is about. In season 2, through the help of Lucius, Bruce will likely learn more about his parents’ company as well as some tech-related skills. Perhaps, through Bruce’s investigation of Wayne Enterprises, his storyline will become more central – or, at least, interwoven – in Gotham season two.

[h=1]‘Gotham’ Cast Talks Riddler’s Future and a Potential Penguin Team-up[/h]

Knowing DC Comics’ Caped Crusader still has well over a decade until he graduates to the cape and cowl on Fox’s Gotham, the DC Comics live-action TV series had a hard road ahead in establishing itself as a worthy addition to the Batman mythos. While young Bruce Wayne slowly develops into the hero Gotham City deserves, the show has instead focused considerable energy on telling origin stories for a number of memorable villains that he will one day face.
The series received a lot of attention for its tease of a young man who may become the Joker (expect more on that in season 2) and already has its sights set on other classic villains like Clayface and Mad Hatter. However, its season 1 finale truly queued up a baddie that may serve as one of next year’s primary antagonists: Edward Nygma/the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith).

From The Web

In the latest installment of DC All Access, a few members of the cast look ahead to next season and what might be in store regarding Nygma, who officially began his road towards villainy in the last few episodes. Here’s what Smith had to say about his character’s descent:
“He finds so much joy in his darkness, which we’re not there yet. The whole ‘riddle me this’ and choosing to be called the Riddler, that’s something he decides eventually. But him falling into this dark pool is really exciting for me. The confusion, trying to find his identity… all those exciting questions.”
GOTHAM: Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) suggests Detectives James Gordon and Harvey Bullock wear protective boots in the “What The Little Bird Told Him” episode of GOTHAM

Indeed Nygma began the season as a quirky side character and ended it as perhaps one of the most blatant setups for the trouble ahead in season 2. Robin Lord Taylor – whose character of Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. The Penguin turned a corner in the finale – also voiced his excitement about the Riddler’s storyline and the chance that the two villains would share a great deal more screen time together.
“I mean, we had that one scene together, and it was one of my top three scenes we shot the entire season. I want Edward to really make his change and then… I would be down with [a Penguin-Riddler partnership]. I’m sure a lot of people would too.”
Thus far, Nygma is one of the most high-profile Batman antagonists to be introduced on Gotham and not become a major antagonist on the series, with the exception of Nicholas D’Agosto’s Harvey Dent. A future alliance between Riddler and Penguin could be rife with fun moments and allow Gotham its first attempt at a full-on villain team-up with some of its most dynamic actors. After all, many of the Bat-films – even the ones directed by Christopher Nolan – featured multiple iconic villains working together to terrorize the city.
Ben McKenzie – who, of course, plays Gotham’s lead, Jim Gordon – for one can’t wait for his character to face Nygma after spending the show’s first season on the same side working at GCPD.
“I’m waiting for [Gordon] to go toe to toe with the Riddler. [He’s] always been a favorite of mine. So when Nygma takes on his full persona, I’m sure there will be confrontations aplenty between him and Jim Gordon. I look forward to that.”
While Gotham has proven itself a ratings hit for Fox, the show is not without its detractors on the critical side. Perhaps honing in on the characters that work and downplaying the involvement of those who frustrate more than delight fans (looking at you, Barbara!) is a step in the right direction. Nygma’s evolution hasn’t necessarily been one of the show’s strongest points, but Smith’s performance and the character’s larger-than-life villainous persona hint at much greater things to come.
Are you excited to see more of Nygma/Riddler in season 2 of Gotham? Let us know in the comments section below.

[h=1]‘Gotham': Is Jada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooney Gone For Good?[/h]

[SPOILERS for Gotham season 1 ahead.]–
It’s fair to say that FOX’s revisionist history of the Batman mythos – aka Gotham – was far from generally-beloved by the time its first season wrapped. However, the show for sure has its fans and it did well enough ratings-wise to earn a season two renewal form the network. A number of established characters are already confirmed to return for the show’s sophomore year, but there’s one prominent season 1 figure whose presence remains a big question mark (and it’s not the Riddler).
Jada Pinkett Smith has expressed her doubts about returning as mob boss Fish Mooney for a while now, even before the character was shown plunging to a watery death (or was she?) in the Gotham season one finale. Gotham‘s creators remain adamant that the door remains open for Smith to reprise her role down the line – something that wouldn’t require a huge leap in logic, since (as indicated) it wasn’t made clear if Fish did indeed drown after her scuffle with Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor).

From The Web

During a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Pinkett Smith was again faced with the question of whether or not she will be coming back to Gotham. Here’s what she said about why she signed just a one-season contract:
“[I signed on for one year] because I really felt like Fish was there to be in service for that year, to give Penguin something to do… I love [Penguin actor Robin Lord Taylor]. I love him. He’s phenomenal, and he’s such a pleasure to work with. I’m going to miss him. I’m going to miss the whole cast. It was such a great team.”
The tone of finality in Pinkett Smith’s words here seem to indicate that she has no plan to return to Gotham in the future. However, during the same interview, she also maintained that her decision to come back or not has nothing to do with the terms of her contract. She specifically mentioned that it is difficult to commit to a series, as “you just want to make sure that you’re committing to one that makes sense” – suggesting that she might well be taking a wait and see approach right now, regarding Fish’s future.

One can hardly blame Pinkett Smith for not wanting her schedule bogged down by Gotham. After all, the show has received a divisive response at best from fans, and there’s a great deal of truth to her discussion that Fish’s purpose was largely to serve as a launchpad for the Penguin’s storyline (it seems like she was created exclusively for that purpose, really). Fish making a guest appearance isn’t outside the realm of possibility, but it seems safe to say: her days as a series regular on Gotham are probably over.
That’s just as well, though, since such characters as Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), Harvey Dent (Nicholas D’Agosto), and Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) are all being promoted to series regular status on Gotham season two. There will also be additional future Batman super villains added to the mix next season, so the show’s going to be more crowded than ever in the episodes ahead – even with Fish seemingly out of the picture, for good.

[h=1]‘Gotham’ Season 2 to Introduce Tigress; James Frain Joins Cast[/h]

[SPOILERS for Gotham season 1 ahead.]–
Early on in season 1 of Gotham, the show was filled with an abundance of villains. Instead of choosing to focus on just one of Batman’s future foes, it attempted to encompass many, which did not work out that well initially. But later on, after shifting focus to Robin Lord Taylor’s breakout role as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, it seemed the series had finally found its footing.
Now with season 2 already on its way, there are many new directions that Gotham could go in. With Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) gone, the show is going to need another villain for Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and the rest of GCPD to take on. As the cast has previously discussed, that villain could very well be Edward Nygma/The Riddler, portrayed in season 1 by Cory Michael Smith. The ending of season 1 set up Nygma to go down a darker path, which we will likely see come to fruition in this next season.

However, if that does happen, Nygma won’t be the only new villain on Gotham. A report from Deadline indicates that two new villains will be heading to the city for season 2: Theo Galavan and his sister Tabitha, a new version of the DC supervillain Tigress.
James Frain (True Blood) will play Theo, described as a “billionaire industrialist” and “the savior the city has been waiting for.” Initially, Theo will be depicted as “heroic” and “lovingly devoted to his sister,” until it is revealed that the two are hiding a vengeful agenda that could threaten Gotham like never before and lead to other new villains joining the fray. According to a previous report on the matter, the early description for Tabitha outlines her as a “sexy knock-out” female villain in her “mid-to-late 20s,” but this role has not yet been cast.
‘Gotham’ season 1 villain Fish Mooney won’t be returning for season 2

Traditionally in the comics, Tigress has been a superhuman with superior fighting skills as well as being highly trained. Not only that, but she is an expert marksman with her crossbow. Like Gotham has done before, however, it seems that they’re reinventing the character to accommodate her role in the show.
With Theo being connected to Gotham’s elite, perhaps we will get to see a side of the city that has yet to be explored in the show. During season 1, the underground of Gotham was arguably the central focus, with Mooney and several other mob bosses acting as the primary antagonists. Now, with Mooney gone and the Galavan siblings incoming, the show could very well shift to a different angle, while also staying with Gotham’s underground through Cobblepot and Nygma.
The Galavan siblings are just the latest addition the main cast for Gotham season 2. Other characters like Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), Harvey Dent (Nicholas D’Agosto), and Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) are all being promoted to series regulars on Gotham season 2. Several other villains will be joining in the fun as well, meaning Gotham is going to be more crowded than ever before.
Gotham season 2 will premiere on FOX in Fall 2015.

[h=1]‘Gotham’ Season 2: Jessica Lucas Cast as Tigress[/h]

When Gotham was first announced, many expected a police procedural with ideas taken from the much beloved comic series Gotham Central. However, series creator Bruno Heller took the series in a different direction, exploring the origin of the Batman mythos and the characters that populate the most dangerous city in comics.
While the show wasn’t always successful, it did ensure that the viewers got to glimpse many recognizable characters in their earliest days. From Victor Zsasz (Anthony Carrigan) to fan-favorite Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), the series was never lacking in iconic villains. Season 2 seems to be continuing the trend, with Harvey Dent (Nicholas D’Agosto) returning as a series regular and the addition of two new villains: Theo and Tabitha Galavan.

TVLine reports that Gracepoint actress Jessica Lucas will be playing Tabitha Galavan in Gotham‘s second season. Tabitha is a new version of DC villain Tigress and works for her brother Theo, portrayed by Orphan Black actor James Frain. Tigress is described as a “sexy knockout” with a penchant for violence, the opposite of her calm and collected brother. The two at first appear to be saviors of Gotham, but it’s soon revealed that they have a malicious secret agenda against the city.
Despite having far fewer acting credits than her counterpart Frain, Lucas has a wide range of experience, from dramas such as Melrose Place and Cult to genre films like Evil Dead and Cloverfield. Her previous experience working both for Fox (Gracepoint) and Warner Bros. (Cult) made her a strong candidate to join the series.

There have been multiple incarnations of the character Tigress in the comics, though the most well-known is Artemis Crock, a superhuman with enhanced senses and fighting skills. She wields a miniature crossbow, not dissimilar from the one wielded by the character Huntress, as seen in The CW’s Arrow. However, Tabitha will be a departure from the traditional Tigress, likely losing her superhuman aspects and toting a bullwhip rather than a crossbow.
It’s interesting to note the relationship between the characters Tigress and Huntress. In the comics, the second incarnation of Tigress in the timeline, Paula Brooks, eventually goes on to become the character Huntress before giving birth to Artemis Crock. While Tabitha Galavan is a departure from the character, it presents the showrunners with an interesting opportunity to introduce another version of Huntress into the series.
More likely, the choice to have Tabitha wield a bullwhip over a crossbow will play into Selina Kyle’s origin stories. Catwoman is famous for wielding a variety of whips and it would be fitting for Tigress to introduce the young Selina to the weapon.
James Frain and Jessica Lucas join new series regulars Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk), Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), and the above mentioned Harvey Dent in Gotham‘s swelling ranks of recurring characters. Next season promises to be crowded with characters DC fans have come to know and love.

‘Gotham’ Season 2 is ‘The Rise of The Villains’

While The CW has been growing their own universe based around DC Comics characters with Arrow in Starling City and The Flash in Central City, FOX’s Gotham has focused the infamous hometown of Batman. Season 1 of Gotham followed police detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) as he fought the organized crime of the city, attempted to solve the murder of Bruce Wayne’s (David Mazouz) parents and dealt with a wide range of villains pulled from the comics.

However, the finale of season 1 saw major power shifts for the villains that had been plaguing Gotham. While some met their demise, others moved into higher positions of power and, according to the cast and producers of Gotham, season 2 will see even more villains appear – and heroes to fight them.

At the Comic-Con International Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment panel Saturday night, as reported by TVLine, showrunner Bruno Heller said season 2 will be “the rise of the villains” as Gotham “starts to decline into chaos.” Executive producer Danny Cannon went on to explain that the villains will arise “when people start to feel power within themselves and don’t feel the urge to answer to morality.”

A handful of new villains have already been confirmed to appear in season 2, including Clayface and Mad Hatter. Additionally, Jessica Lucas is set to appear as Tabitha Galavan a.k.a. Tigress while James Frain will play the character’s brother Theo. Plus, set photos that surfaced before Comic-Con teased the return of Cameron Monaghan as Jerome a.k.a. the Joker.

Along with new villains, we’ll also be seeing new heroes in season 2 according to McKenzie: “As the villains rise, there’s an arms race, and the good guys have to increase their force as well.” On the side of the good guys, Bruce and Alfred will continue to explore Bruce’s father’s secrets as they build a more respectful and adult relationship.

As for returning villains, Robin Lord Taylor said that his character Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. Penguin will be fighting to retain the power he gained in season 1. Selina Kyle, according to actress Camren Bicondova, will be figuring out where she wants to stand and viewers will be given more insight into her background as she makes this decision. Additionally, Cannon spoke about Jim’s ex-fiancee Barbara (Erin Richards) saying she’s alive, but addled, calling her “the crazy ex-girlfriend from hell.” Her story in season 2 will be of “insanity, but also fulfilling your potential.”

While fans of the DC Comics may be interested to see how Tigress, Clayface and Mad Hatter will be adapted to the screen in Gotham, it’s unclear how much they’ll appear in season 2. Season 1 included many one-off villains who acted as the case-of-the-week for Gordon while those in organized crime, like Cobblepot, had more complex storylines. If season 2 is the “rise of the villains,” that could mean more multi-episode arcs for the new and returning villains.

Though it may be difficult to include so many characters, there’s certainly room in the cast. The season 1 finale killed off at least two of its major villains, allowing the show to introduce and explore new evil characters. Whether those characters improve the show and give Gotham the interesting dynamic promised by Heller, though, remains to be seen.

Gotham returns for season 2 September 21st, 2015 @8PM on FOX.

[h=1]‘Gotham': Natalie Alyn Lind To Play Silver St. Cloud In Season 2[/h]

Fox’s Gotham partly centers on the evolution of Ben McKenzie’s James Gordon, tracking him from his early days as a rookie detective to eventually becoming the Commissioner of Gotham City. However, in many ways, the show is more of an ensemble piece, with several key characters from the Batman mythos making up the supporting cast (like Robin Lord Taylor’s Penguin and David Mazouz’s Bruce Wayne).
With Season two shifting focus to the rising group of villains in Gotham, the ensemble cast of the series is growing even larger. In the second season, Theo and Tabitha Galavan will arrive in Gotham to stir even more trouble than usual. Played by James Frain (True Blood) and Jessica Lucas (Gracepoint), the sibling-duo has an unforgiving itinerary that they plan to carry out by using their power and influence. Combined with the fact that Tabitha is a new version of the DC villain Tigress, an expert marksman, their presence could prove lethal.

Frain and Lucas won’t be the only ones joining Gotham for Season two. Both Morena Baccarin and Chris Chalk, who played Dr. Leslie Thompkins and Lucius Fox, respectively, have been upped to series regulars for season two. In addition, EW is reporting that Gotham has enlisted yet another individual to join the ensemble in the episodes ahead. Namely, Natalie Alyn Lind, who will play Bruce Wayne’s young love interest Silver St. Cloud, described as “an ethereal beauty with the pristine manners of a Gotham debutante.”
Alyn Lind has previously starred in a recurring role on ABC’s The Goldbergs, on which she played Dana Caldwell. Silver St. Cloud has been in Batman comics since the 1970s, dating back to when she made her debut in Detective Comics #470 as a love interest for the Caped Crusader. St. Cloud eventually becomes one of the few to discover Batman’s hidden identity, before the two are eventually pushed apart because of Bruce Wayne’s secret life as a costume-wearing vigilante.

Gotham will introduce Lind’s Silver St. Cloud as the niece of the aforementioned Theo Galavan, who is going to be running for mayor when season two picks up. St. Cloud thus introduces Bruce to her uncle, leading to Theo becoming a sort-of father figure for Bruce. Silver, on the other hand, is said to have a dark ambition, meaning it would most likely be best for Bruce if he stayed away.
Combine that with the knowledge that Theo has his own sinister plans for Gotham City, and it’s clear to see this could be one of the most important storylines that will be included in the episodes that lie ahead. The future is looking bleak for Bruce Wayne, James Gordon and their limited allies in Gotham City, what with the sheer number of supervillains (and/or those citizens with malicious intent) growing by the day…

If season 2 does not do well, it will probably get cancelled, even though i enjoy the show.
I hope Joker is a regular in this season, like penguin was in season 1. Jerome would make a good joker, and is entertaining.

‘Gotham’ Season 2 Teaser Trailers: Villains Are On the Rise [Updated]

However Gotham fans felt about the season 1 finale (read our review), one thing was clear going forward: major changes are afoot for Bruce Wayne’s hometown and the series that bears its name. Now that Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) is apparently out of the picture, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) – the self-proclaimed new “king of Gotham” – will have to grasp that title tightly.

Showrunner Bruno Heller has announced that Gotham season 2 will see a number of villains come to the forefront. In addition to the anticipated introduction of Batman villains Clayface and Mad Hatter, the show has Jessica Lucas popping up as Tigress and has bumped up the presence of Nick D’Agosto’s doomed GCPD ally Harvey Dent (could we see his Two-Face arc happen this season?). Plus, there’s still a murderous Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) running loose, and let’s not forget a certain future Clown Prince of Crime.

Fox has now released a teaser trailer for Gotham‘s sophomore season (see above), and as expected, the emphasis is place on the show’s criminal presence. In particular, a major focus is spent on Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) quest to take down the corrupt Commission Loeb (Peter Scolari) and the resulting “deal with the devil” he strikes with Penguin. Moreover, there are several flashes to some of the baddies coming Gordon’s way, including Cameron Monaghan’s locked-up Jerome, who likely already has plans in motion for his escape.

UPDATE: A second Gotham season two teaser (this one, focused on young Bruce Wayne) has dropped online. Watch it, below:

The Gotham season two footage also raises the intriguing question of how dirty Gordon will allow his hands to get in order to take down the criminal scum of his city. This development nicely foreshadows the moral dilemma Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) himself will have to face one day when he finally dons the cape and cowl.

Considering that the show’s reaction from fans has been pretty mixed since its debut, Gotham season 2 does look like it may be course-correcting a bit, at least judging by the direction of this footage. The show seems to be playing greater focus on its most successful elements and downplaying less popular characters (looking at you, Barbara!) in favor of exciting new series regulars like Michael Chiklis and recurring player Morena Baccarin. Hardcore Batman fans may have been turned off by the show at this point, but with any luck, Gotham can pull off an impressive season 2 turnaround. Hey, it worked for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., after all.

Gotham season two starts airing September 21, 2015 on Fox.

‘Gotham’ Season 2 Poster & Images: Dark Times Ahead For Gotham City

A few months before Ben Affleck suits up as a middle-aged Dark Knight in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, viewers will revisit the character’s early years when Gotham returns to Fox for season 2. The first season divided fans, but the showrunners are upping the ante significantly with its sophomore year.

We’ve known for a while that this new season of Gotham will be centered on the rise of a number of classic Batman villains; this is certainly a wise move, seeing as the show’s baddies are among its strongest highlights. A recently-unveiled trailer for Gotham season two played up that angle even more, promising that Jim Gordon will be facing some dark days in the future.

Now, courtesy of THR, some new promotional images collect the show’s cast, once again touting the “Rise of the Villains” subtitle. In addition to returning regular cast members like Ben McKenzie and Robin Lord Taylor, the poster and accompanying banner include two new faces. As previously reported, James Frain (True Blood) and Jessica Lucas (Gracepoint) are joining the show as Theo and Tabitha Galvan, respectively. Theo is said to a billionaire claiming to want to save Gotham, while his sister Tabitha becomes the supervillain known as Tigress.

Check out photos of both characters, along with the new Gotham season two poster and banner images, below:

The Gotham season two poster does a good job of compiling the show’s various characters into a single image, but it’s the fact that it (literally) center on young Bruce (David Mazouz) entering the cave is what really sells it. Even more impressive, the banner image makes particularly clever use of the cast, which together form a face-laden cityscape that neatly mirrors the Batman logo in shape. Going into season 2, Gotham is really honing in on paving the road for Batman’s eventual arrival on the scene, and the increased threat the city faces is an undeniable part of that.

Although some Bat-fans may have already rejected the revisionist history that Gotham offers, season 2 looks like it could take the action far darker than before, bringing in more fan-favorite heroes and villains than ever before. Moreover, the “rise of the villains” theme could allow this season’s narrative to venture into Empire Strikes Back territory. As Harvey Dent once said, “The night is darkest just before the dawn.” It’s about time Gotham really started to reflect that.

Gotham season two starts airing Monday, September 21, 2015 on Fox.

Good poster. Season 2 will definitely be better than season 1, as it will now like a serial show, instead of the villain of the week episodes.

‘Gotham’ Season 2 Details: Selina’s New Crowd & A Misunderstood Big Bad

As we patiently countdown the end of summer and the start of fall premieres, the burning questions left over from various season finales have begun to heat up, especially when it comes to FOX’s Gotham. How are things for Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), now that his ex has gone mental and the mob’s stranglehold on the city has been irrevocably altered? What happens once Bruce (David Mazouz) walks down that passageway hidden by his father (an obvious beginning to the Batcave, someday)? And perhaps most burning: Who else will be unmasked as a member of Batman’s infamous rogues gallery in season 2?

Juicy tidbits have been dropping since Comic-Con International and we pulled some of the meatier morsels from the cast and executive producer John Stephens. Let’s break down what the cast and crew had to say about the show, in advance of the season 2 premiere in September.

SEASON 2 Will NOT have A VILLAIN-OF-THE-WEEK FORMAT

Season 1 scratched the surface with origin stories of well-known characters and stuck to a case-of-the-week format until we got to know Jim Gordon and this dark world a little better. Now that Gotham has found its rhythm, season two is a definite shift away from the procedural and will be a deep dive into character story. Get ready for some serious story arcs. Executive producer John Stephens likened it to early seasons of Buffy.

“You would have an episode where she was doing something else, but the mayor saga story was always pushing forward throughout. The mayor was the Big Bad. That’s the shape we’re looking for. Within that, we will have blocks, kind of like a two or three episode arc.”

One character we’ll see through these arcs will be Barbara Kean (Erin Richards). A woman scorned by end of season 1 – and a demented one at that – Barbara has seen her share of the dark and light Gotham City has to offer. Erin explained what moving away from the procedural format will do for the series moving forward.

“The first four episodes of the season are mind-blowing. Every single one of them is a page turner. We’re going more for these amazing sort of story arcs. They’re a bit more captivating because you really get the through line of these characters.”

Barbara will be hell-bent on getting back at Leslie and Jim. But just what other characters will she be encountering?

Season 2 is The “Rise of THE VILLAINS”

It was revealed during the Gotham panel at Comic-Con 2015 that season 2 is going to be the “Rise of the Villains” and there’s been a lot of back and forth on just what that means. John Stephens put it plainly:

“Season 2 will see the underworld shift and make that evolutionary shift towards the beginnings of a world of super villains and where they come from, and then set the stage for what happens later on.”

In the past few weeks, we’ve learned about meeting Clayface and Mad Hatter, plus Tabitha, aka Tigress (Jessica Lucas), and her brother Theo (James Frain). John Stephens describes Tigress as “Vicious, I would say, and homicidal.”

Last season Gotham introduced Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), whose appearance suggested a young Joker may now be sitting in Arkham, waiting appear in the first episodes of the new season. But while the mystery of Jerome’s future claim on the title of Clown Prince of Crime lingers, so too does the question of what else is in store for the characters who made it through season 1?

As mentioned above, Barbara Kean went off the deep end in a big way at the end of season 1. As such season 2 finds her smack in the middle of Arkham, with its nefarious and colorful residents as her new comrades. Erin Richards teased a little about what we’ll see from Barbara, including her run-in with Jerome, Tigress, and Theo early on.

“She meets very interesting characters in there who help shape who Barbara becomes during the second series. Barbara meets Galavan, who is played by James Frain, and Tabitha coming as a brother and sister team, and Barbara is led astray a little bit by them as well. There’s loads of interesting, amazing stuff coming up for her.”

Could this be the beginning of Barbara as a villain in her own right? After all, by the finale, Barbara was far from the poised woman we met in early parts of season 1. According to Erin, “Basically, Barbara has been let free in Season 2. She’s just this wild animal. Literally, she could do anything. She’s so free and the only kind of thing that she’s looking to do is get back at Jim and Lee.” When asked what villain she was most looking forward to meeting, Erin coyly answered, “Myself.”

The speculation around who Barbara might become is rampant. But will this wild Barbara eventually lead to the introduction of Harley Quinn? When asked directly if she was Harley, Erin simply said, “Anybody can be anybody.”

SELINA IS HANGING WITH A NEW CROWD

Although it was destined to fail, one of the most intriguing character elements of season 1 was the delicate friendship between Selina (Camren Bicondova) and Bruce. The duo managed to do more for each other in their short time together than all the well-meaning adults could. Of course, committing and covering up a murder can throw a rift into any budding friendship and Selina and Bruce are no exception. Don’t expect them to be in the same place they were last season.

“Selina only does bad things for good reasons. We’re definitely going to be exploring how it affects Bruce and her relationship,” Bicondova explained at Comic-Con. “They have their issues, because [laughs] Bruce doesn’t agree with Selina’s thought process. That causes conflict with any relationship.”

With the introduction of Silver St. Cloud, as Bruce’s new love interest, and Bruce working diligently on his father’s mystery with Lucius Fox, we can assume the young Wayne won’t have much time to be there for Selina.

Not that Selina needs Bruce. According to Bicondova, the young Ms. Kyle will be making her own way in the world and figuring out which side of the good/bad line she wants to walk. The end of season 1 had her running around with Fish Mooney, only to lose her new leader as soon as she had her. Now, Selina has tasted what life not hiding in the shadows is like, and she knows how it feels to have some back-up. “She’s going to be hanging out with different types of people. She’s hanging out with some people you don’t expect, especially after the finale,” Bicondova said.

Who will be leading these new crowds? We know from reports that Theo and Tabitha have an agenda that may include creating an army of Gotham’s most devious minds. John Stephens hinted that Selina and Tigress cross paths early on and that confrontation will have a heavy influence on who Selina becomes. According to Stephens:

“[Tigress acts as] a proto-Catwoman in the way she moves and her weapons of choice. And a young Selina Kyle will see her and you’ll see her put together the pieces [and] Selina will go, ‘Oh, I like that whip. I think I might want to be like that.’ And you’ll see how she starts to use that to go forward.”

Better get started on the whip training, Camren.

Gotham season two begins airing September 21st, 2015 @8PM on FOX.

[h=1]‘Gotham’ Season 2 Sets Leo Fitzpatrick To Play A New Villain[/h]

Relatively young Gotham City cop Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) faced a number of threats during season 1 of Gotham. To be honest, the city’s gang war and the rise to power of Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) alone would have kept him plenty busy, even if he hadn’t been forced to deal with the many other baddies that popped up (Red Mask, young Joker, Electrocutioner, and so forth).
However, Gordon is set to be even more overwhelmed by the city’s criminal element when season 2 of the Fox series rolls around next month. Dubbed “The Rise of the Villains”, the upcoming batch of episodes will see the growing prominence of a number of season 1 characters (including pivotal arcs for both the Riddler and Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Camren Bicondova)), as well as the introduction of several new ones.
Now, according to Deadline, another baddie is heading to Gotham. Leo Fitzpatrick has been cast in the recurring role of Joe Pike, leader of a group of arsonists known as the Pike Brothers. The character doesn’t appear to have any ties to the comic books (at least based on the Deadline description), though Fitzpatrick has tons of television experience under his belt. In the past few years, the actors has appeared on shows like Banshee, Blue Bloods, Burn Notice and Sons of Anarchy, as well as a recurring role on the first three seasons of The Wire.

The fact that Gotham is throwing in an original villain in the mix for season 2 is a smart move. After all, most of the current or rising foes need to be around to face the Dark Knight when young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) finally dons the cape and cowl. Limiting itself to strictly marquee villains could rob the show of some of its suspense – and with Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) unlikely to reappear anytime soon, the time has come to bring in some new characters, such as Michael Chiklis’ Captain Nathaniel Barnes.
Thus far, it’s unclear how Pike will fit into the season’s overall narrative, which looks like it will largely focus on billionaire Theo Galavan (James Frain) and his sister, Tabitha (Jessica Lucas), who ultimately becomes the supervillain Tigress. Likely, a number of shaky alliances will be formed between the many villains roaming the streets of Gotham next season – and considering that Pike doesn’t have a presence in traditional Batman mythos, it may not end well for him.
