EagleGet a Free & Great alternative of IDM

Think about the features and goodies of IDM but free of cost? the answer is EagleGet.

I have tried many alternatives of Internet download manager but I was not satisfied with any of them. During my search I found a new Download manager known as EagleGet. I'm using EagleGet since few weeks and so far this is the best Free and strong alternative of IDM I have ever used. For the first time my IDM is completely replaced with another download manager. I am not going to write any review you should check out the new download manager your self and share your experience. My experience with EagleGet is so far great. It is similar to IDM. The features are almost same in-fact this one have some cool features which IDM does not have. User interface is different it is modern yet simple and pleasant for eyes.

EagleGet has few more features which are not available in IDM such as:

- Can use custom wallpapers as a theme
- Compatible with all browsers
- Cool notifications (check screen shots)
- Option to download audio files of videos (no need to convert videos into audio)
- Sound notifications out of the box
- Task Monitor

Would like to share few more things which will save you from troubles, once you installed EG do the following:

- Downloaded file types in EG are slightly different then IDM, you can add IDM file types in EG for better integration and downloading.
- Enable EG extension in your browser.
- In Chrome browser go to chrome://plugins/ and turn on Always allowed option for EG other wise you might get weird messages in chrome.
- You can also change the default download folders of EG to IDM folders.

Automatically start downloading the following file types (in spoiler)
I have combined downloaded file types of EG and IDM and added few more for which I use for my convenience which are apk, crdownload, md5 and torrent. If you want to use my merged list, Paste them into Settings -> Monitoring -> First box

Juste! First of all, hands down a brilliant attempt on writing that down. It definitely seems attractive, so i am tempting (and a bit curious) to see how it'll perform.

I'll definitely post my impressions here.

not working on chrome with metro ui
Does IDM work with MetroUI? I don't think so.

Baghi! How would you compare this with your chosen Free replacement of IDM? Which one was that? FDM or what?

Looks cool but I never had a reason to try anything else after installing FDM, I might give this a try though.

What FDM has:
 • .torrent download
 • video grabber
 • builtin automatic converter with popular audio/video format support (including MP3)
 • community-based user reviews
 • media preview
 • scheduled downloading
 • ability to import/export settings and history (this includes settings from other DMs)
 • builtin virus checker
 • ability to view .zip formats before actually downloading them
 • builtin archive extractor
 • site explorer
 • remote access
 • ability to make portable version so that your downloads and history can be saved on your thumb drive
 • various options for notifications, drop box, transparent IDM like downloading window or cool tray traffic-like mini window
 • traffic usage mode (priority vise downloads like in uTorrent)
 • time limiter
 • what to do when done

and some other usual things like batch downloading and stuff. It's not as cool though, but it's compatible with all popular browser.

The biggest difference between IDM and all other download managers (incl. FDM, Flashget, DAP, Eagleget) is that IDM gives a nearly constant download speed while it regularly fluctuates in all other. Eagleget is same in this respect.

Just tried Eagleget and I'm really liking the interface better than IDM's old and plain looks. While downloading an Ubuntu .iso, speeds are constantly at 449KBps on my 4 Megabit connection. I'd say this is a SOLID find! Kudos OP! Eagleget is my new primary download manager (for now) :D

I used to think the same, until I tested these download managers out.

IDM only tricks you into thinking it's downloading at a faster "constant" rate. While in reality, its only the "progress bar and speedometer, which is updated in a "quicker" way.

The rest of the download managers say, DAP ... Show you speedometer with an update rate, at a sightly lower rate ... Which makes some people think its downloading slower ... But that's not the case.

If you want to try it out, download a larger file (say, Ubuntu.iso) and try it out on different download managers. All of them will compete neck to neck with each other ... With actual download finishing at same time, with the exception of a few seconds ... And that too because IDM may try it use more links to boost its speed (which explains why it's a Paid product).

Even better, try downloading from those file sharing sites like Uploaded.to or FileFactory etc (using FREE Download option) ... And you'll see that IDM will perform equally worse than the other free products.

w00t! You essentially, did the same thing which i was talking about :p Let it download fully, and share the total time with us :)
Baghi! I don't think FDM is that slow :S There must be some problem. Plus, a 60 second test isn't really a test but anyway ... might help those looking for a difference :)

P.S. Stickying the thread for a short amount of time :) Let it spread a little more and gather some feedback on that.
