My net's been down since the Great Fire, so I bought Driveclub to pass the time.

All I kept thinking was; why the hell did they delay the game? What exactly did they do with that extra 10-11 months that they had? "Barebone" is one way to describe it. Driveclub has made me realise of all the small things I take for granted in most games. I used to laugh at the horrible story and narrative that NFS:Rivals had, but not anymore. I realise how important little stuff like that is to a game. Even something like the Grid series. It has some ridiculous banter throughout the game, and being called 'Gonzo' looses it's charm the 349th time around.

It almost seems like the developers plain forgot to add that stuff into the game. It just pushes you into the game, and well, that's about it.

The driving itself is satisfying. It's fun, it's furious. The penalty for driving off-road and hitting other cars seems very fair, as the length oft he penalty is proportional to the severity of offence. That is actually a really good gameplay mechanic. To be honest, I think as a driving game, it's better than anything Codemasters have given us in the past 4 or 5 years.

I hate the drift events. I don't get why devs think we need to have completely different car physics for the drift events. Cars that usually run smoothly suddenly become boats during those events. This is one area where my all time favorite racing game, PGR2, still goes unemulated.

Otherwise, I can't change the colour of my car! And I keep unlocking these liveries, but can't put them on my car. It's absurd! I guess I need to make a club for those options, for which I need to online which I can't do right now. But this is just one of the many ways the game's presentation lets it down.

And the music? First off, I actually had to go into the menu and increase the in-game music level from 0% because that's what the devs had set by default! And this was a god 5-6 events in. I was wondering where the music was. And sadly, the tracks sound like the devs ran out of budget, and so just randomly downloaded a copy of Fruity Loops and go from there.

Good racing game let down by just about everything else.

[h=2]DriveClub's developer considers compensation for players snagged by online woes[/h]

DriveClub's director has spent a lot of time on Twitter explaining and apologizing for the server difficulties that have plagued the game, even suggesting that early adopters of the game might receive some compensation for their troubles.

Director Paul Rustchynsky said Evolution Studios was confident the game wouldn't face the kind of online troubles it does now, citing the performance testing the studio did for DriveClub prior to launch.

The problem, however, is not server capacity, Rustchynksy said. "It's purely down to the server code having some bugs," he said.

DriveClub does have offline modes but its social and online features are meant to distinguish it as a racer. Those have been unavailable, or very difficult to access, since its launch. If players can get in, they should find no difficulties with online play, Evolution has said. But DriveClub has had to strictly ration access as the studio searches for a solution.

A player asked Rustchynsky if Evolution would offer some kind of make-good to those who are having trouble during DriveClub's launch. Rustchynsky did not rule it out ("We're considering all of our options right now," he said) but it remains to be seen whether that would be free DLC or something else.

The free PlayStation Plus edition of DriveClub has been delayed in light of the online woes, and Rustchynsky had no timetable of when that might launch.

Initial races were okay but when you start driving through canadian and norway tracks uff amazing. Its a simple driving game but what it gets right is you driving on amazing tracks. Buy it

[h=2]DriveClub rolls another update but says more are needed to fix the game[/h]

DriveClub, the beleaguered multiplayer racer that launched three weeks ago for PlayStation 4, is promising another round of server updates to resolve online problems that have kept much of the game inaccessible to players.

Evolution Studios says more work is needed but the update rolling out this weekend "will improve online performance across the game and it also brings specific improvements for multiplayer racing and leaderboard updates."

That said, "we still have more work to do to get everything back on track before we can give you any bigger or better news. We will keep you up to speed."

There still is no word on when the version promised to PlayStation Plus subscribers will be deployed.

DriveClub has staggered through a disastrous debut, blaming the game's online problems on bugs in the netcode, not a lack of server support. Polygon currently rates DriveClub a 5, largely on account of the broken promises in its distinguishing online features.

[h=2]DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition officially postponed 'until further notice'[/h]

Evolution Studios' PlayStation 4 racing game DriveClub has been out for close to a month, but its online component has been rocky and unreliable. Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida issued a formal apology for the game's technical problems and confirmed that DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition is now postponed "until further notice."

DriveClub
launched on PS4 on Oct. 7, and developer Evolution Studios hasn't been able to provide a reliable online experience since then. The game's PlayStation Plus Edition, a sampling of DriveClub's cars and tracks, was expected to hit alongside or near the retail release. But given the core game's flaky online performance, the trial version of DriveClub hasn't been delivered as promised.

Sony Computer Entertainment hasn't responded to multiple requests for comment on DriveClub PS Plus Edition, but Yoshida addressed the absent release after apologizing for DriveClub's performance.
"We have been listening to your feedback and realize that patience understandably is running out," Yoshida wrote on Facebook. "Evo is working around the clock to close the gap, and we have deployed additional engineering resources to help resolve the remaining issues as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the time frames required to roll out the fully connected experience will be longer than anticipated and we do not have an exact time frame for when they will be resolved. We will continue to update you on progress and you can find the latest info on the DriveClub Facebook page.

"We are also very conscious that we have disappointed so many of you who were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DriveClub. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice."

Evolution Studios has updated its DriveClub Facebook page numerous times since the game's original release, saying it was updating its online infrastructure and rolling out new server updates in an attempt to address the game's performance woes. But problems have persisted with the socially connected racing game more than three weeks after its debut.

For more on DriveClub, read Polygon's review and review update which reflects the game's online problems.

[h=2]Driveclub apologizes for its broken game with free DLC[/h]

Driveclub will offer free downloadable content to its users to compensate for the ongoing problems with the game's online feature set, now in their sixth week.

According to the game's Facebook page, drivers will get the two DLC packs for November that were originally planned to be premium offerings. The Ignition Expansion pack and the Photo-Finish Tour Pack will offer users a total of five new cars, 22 new tour events, 10 new livery items, and another 10 trophies to win.

Because these two packs were to be part of the premium Season Pass subscription, that will be extended to include four more packs in July. Subscribers to the Season pass will still get 38 cars, 80 livery items and 176 tour events, developer Evolution Studios promises.

Tuesday, Driveclub will release a title update that adds a Photo Mode while also tuning multiplayer collision to reduce spinouts. Other patch details are available at this link. The update will also offer three new tracks not part of the DLC packs.

Lastly, Evolution still has no word on when the free edition promised to PlayStation Plus subscribers will launch. "We are continually working on improving the server capacity to enable us to launch the PS Plus Edition as quickly as possible," Evolution said.

[h=2]Here's a look at the free DLC Driveclub is giving away[/h]

Here's a trailer showing the Ignition Expansion Pack for Driveclub, a piece of DLC that was to have been premium but was made free as an apology to customers unable to use the game's online features, now 47 days after its Oct. 7 launch.
In fact, all of November's planned DLC will be offered for free, including this expansion as well as the Photo-Finish Tour Pack. Offering them for free requires Sony to lengthen the span of the season pass that delivered all the premium content to users at a flat rate.

In comments on that Facebook post, Evolution Studios said that "work continues on the server improvements as our priority, and everyone on the team who is able to work on this (or help) is focused exclusively on fixing the server issues."
However, others in the studio are working on "new features like dynamic weather and replays as well as many other improvements to the game based on your feedback."

Still no word when the free edition promised to PlayStation Plus subscribers will be launched.

After the Weather patch went live today, people started to make some screenshots and the results are jaw-dropping. Evolution’s Driveclub proves it’s truly one of prettiest – if not ‘the’ prettiest – racer of this moment on consoles. Watch and judge for yourself:

The latest update to DriveClub arrives today bringing dynamic weather to Evolution Studios' socially focused PlayStation 4 racing game, according to a post on the game's official Facebook page.

Update 1.08 will bring rain and snow to DriveClub's online and offline modes, a feature the developer first touted at E3 2014. The 1.4 GB download will also add two new tracks: Norway's Atlanterhavsvegen and Canada's Sinclair Pass. Several "improvements" also come to the game, according to the developer.

  • Adds the option to configure Throttle/Brake controls onto Up/Down on Right Stick.
  • Adds the ability to access Club Cars when offline.
  • Adds the ability to access Club Paint Jobs when offline.
  • Adds track maps and stats to each track card in Single Event.
  • Adds player statistics to various panels within Single Event and Challenges.
  • Includes more minor bug fixes, performance improvements and usability tweaks.

This won't be the only update for the game in December, as Evolution Studios plans to bring the following with another update this month.

  • Adds support for the Mazzanti Evantra, coming to PlayStation Store as a free download later in December.
  • Adds support for the Redline Expansion Pack, coming to PlayStation Store as a premium download later in December. This Expansion Pack includes the Redline Car Pack and Redline Tour Pack.
  • The Redline Car Pack includes 5 new cars: Mercedes SLS AMG E-Drive, McLaren F1 LM, Renault Alpine A110-50, Ferrari 458 Speciale, and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
  • The Redline Tour Pack includes 11 new Events and 5 new Trophies.
  • Adds support for the Elements Tour Pack, coming to PlayStation Store as a premium download later in December.
  • The Elements Tour Pack includes 11 new Events and 5 new Trophies.

For more on the game, be sure to read Polygon's review, which takes into account DriveClub's post-launch problems. Last month, by way of apology for its rocky release, Evolution Studios offered players free downloadable content.

[h=2]DriveClub rolls out five free tracks this week[/h]

Five new tracks are coming to the PS4-exclusive racer DriveClub tomorrow, and Evolution Studio has been rolling out previews of them one-by-one on the game's official Facebook page.

The tracks are all located in Japan in the game: Nakasendo, Lake Shoji, Asagiri Highlands, Takahagi Hills and, just announced, Goshodaira. In videos showcasing the tracks, Evolution paired them with vehicles coming with the premium Apex Expansion Pack that arrives on Jan. 27.

The cars in the Apex pack are the McLaren 650S, the Jaguar C-X75 Concept, the Caterham R500 Superlight, the Enzo Ferrari, and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Centennial edition.

Videos of the tracks and cars are available on DriveClub's Facebook page. DriveClub staggered through a difficult launch fraught with chronic online problems but has since stabilized. A version free for PlayStation Plus subscribers still is promised but there is no word on when that will arrive, other than "soon."

The UK version of Driveclub for Plus members is retailing at GBP 19.99. Which seems to be a great value... The US version for plus is still at USD 50.

Can someone confirm if we can buy the UK region of the game right now as the description suggests that its an upgrade to the plus edition ?

[h=2]PlayStation Europe boss can't guarantee free DriveClub will ever happen[/h]

PlayStation's top executive for Europe was noncommittal when asked in an interview if DriveClub would ever release a free version for PlayStation Plus subscribers, as was promised nearly two years ago.

To Metro, Jim Ryan, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, said a free DriveClub release is "still being looked at." Asked directly if he could guarantee it would still happen, he replied, "I can't say anything at this stage."

The free edition was one of the casualties of DriveClub's mangled October launch, in which numerous features for the online racer were unavailable for more than a month.

Polygon has reached out to representatives of Sony Computer Entertainment America, which is based on the west coast, to ask for any additional comment or clarification on the matter. We will update this post with any reply received.

Sony immediately pulled back the free release while it and developer Evolution Studios pressed to resolve the problems, and offering paying customers free downloadable content by way of an apology.

Ryan said that SCEE and Evolution (which is based in the U.K.) was "absolutely distraught" over DriveClub's humiliating launch and worked feverishly to fix the problems. "I don't think anybody should labor under the opinion that there was any feeling of insouciance or anybody being relaxed about that being the case," he told Metro. "People were working 24/7, and that's an expression that's lightly used but people were working 24/7 trying to fix this."

DriveClub has since stabilized. While Polygon's critic called it a competent racer with top-of-the-line presentation, it said most of the game's appeal comes from its online feature set. For more, see the full review.

[h=2]DriveClub's free PlayStation Plus Edition is still on the way, Sony says[/h]

"We are continually working on improving the server capacity to enable us to launch the PS Plus Edition as quickly as possible."

That's the latest word on the long-awaited free version of DriveClub from an unnamed Sony spokesperson according to Eurogamer.

DriveClub was released in North America on October 7 last year. A free limited version of the game for PlayStation Plus subscribers was initially supposed to be available when the game launched, but was delayed due to major server problems for the online-centered game. Weeks later, the free version was postponed "until further notice."

Confusingly, this latest statement comes just one day after Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Jim Ryan reportedly said, "I can't say anything at this stage" in response to a question about whether DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition is still happening.

According to Eurogamer's source, the free version is definitely still in the works, although Sony still has nothing official to say regarding the launch timing for it. Polygon has reached out to its own Sony contacts for clarification and will update this story if we hear anything back.

If you'd like more information on DriveClub, you can check out the latest version of our review, which was updated post-launch to account for continued server problems with the game. A new update taking into account more recent patches and improvements is in the works, so stay tuned for that.

[h=2]DriveClub PS Plus Edition arrives prematurely, full release coming soon (update)[/h]

DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition, the trial that was supposed to be available alongside the game's launch last fall, was briefly up on the PlayStation Store, but quickly disappeared.
Evolution Studios' racer launched Oct. 7 in North America, but due to severe network problems at the time, publisher Sony Computer Entertainment decided to push back the release of the free PS Plus Edition in order to avoid overloading the servers further. By the end of October, Sony said it had indefinitely delayed the launch of the PS Plus Edition.

This past February, a day after Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Jim Ryan couldn't guarantee that the free trial would ever be released, a Sony spokesperson said the company was still working on getting DriveClub's servers to a level that would allow the publisher to launch the PS Plus Edition.
Today, eight and a half months after DriveClub's debut, the PS Plus Edition is available on the PlayStation Store. The release date is listed as Oct. 7, not June 23. Either way, we've been unable to add the game to our library; each time we try to "buy" it on the website, a message pops up saying, "We've encountered an error while processing your order. The transaction has not been completed. Please try again later." A different error shows up when trying to download the PS Plus Edition on a PlayStation 4.
We've reached out to Sony for comment, and will update this article with any response we receive. In the meantime, you can read our DriveClub review, which we updated in April after Evolution seemed to have addressed the game's network issues.
Update: The PlayStation Store page for the PS Plus Edition is no longer accessible, but you can see a screenshot of the page below. We've edited the story to reflect this.
Update 2: Evolution Studios is "preparing to launch" the PS Plus Edition of DriveClub, the company said in a Facebook post this afternoon. However, said Evolution, the game's appearance on the PlayStation Store today was "premature" because "the servers aren't ready yet."

Evolution apologized "for any confusion and inconvenience caused" and added that the company "will have news for you soon."

[h=2]DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition launching June 25, online access rolling out gradually[/h]

DriveClub's long-awaited PlayStation Plus Edition will finally be available to all Plus subscribers — for real this time — tomorrow, June 25, Sony announced today on the PlayStation Blog.
"We've spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected set-backs," said Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, of which DriveClub developer Evolution Studios is a subsidiary.

The PS Plus Edition, a trial version of DriveClub that comprises a subset of the full game, was announced in 2013 and scheduled to be released alongside DriveClub in October 2014. But Sony held back the launch of the free version due to severe connectivity issues in the main game, then postponed the release indefinitely. As of late February, Sony said the servers still weren't ready to handle the influx of players that would likely come with the PS Plus Edition.

[h=5]Must Read[/h]
DriveClub review: car culture

The PS Plus Edition briefly appeared on the PlayStation Store yesterday, but Sony quickly took it down; Evolution later said the release was "premature." It's actually launching tomorrow, but not in full.
"To make absolutely certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around," said Yoshida today.
DriveClub PS Plus Edition will be available to all PlayStation Plus members starting tomorrow, but most of them will be restricted to playing offline. As for the online component, Sony will gradually roll out access over time in an effort to ensure that the servers stay functional.

"We know that this might be frustrating after your extra wait already, but hope you can understand that we are taking extra precautions to protect your experience when you do get online," said Yoshida.
