Click Sound in Hard Drive _ Should I be worrying?

Hi I am new here seeking some sorta help. Last night when I switched off the AC I noticed a random click sound coming from CPU. Later I realized the system sometime freezes for a while. A little search by Google suggests it can by my hard disk.

I dont usually open my PC and don't know how to handle it. Is it a matter of concern and if so what should I do next? I have stored so much music movies games and photos on my drive.

Looking for some valuable advice.

Oh boy.. I'm sorry to tell you but your HDD is dying, The clicking sound or "Click of death" usually means a faulty HDD you should backup everything as fast and as soon as possible,There's no solution to this from what i've experienced but feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Make a backup asap, the only thing you can do now is maybe slap the HDD and hope to get the most out of it.

yes your should be worried..it will start getting bad sectors..if it hasnt already

Clicking maybe a symptom of not getting enough power in small number of cases..but most likely its dying

Thank you all. Today I arranged a portable hard drive and copied all my data successfully.

My current drive which apparently dying is a western digital 640GB. Now I am planning to buy a 1TB Drive to replace it. Is it safe to buy a used drive in good condition ? A friend told me that pulled out drives are available in market at half the price of a new and they work as good as new should. My friend arguess if luck is bad the new drive also dies in minutes otherwise used can last for dacades. Do you agree with this argument?

Pulled out drives are unreliable unless you're buying from a trusted seller. New drives don't up and fail on you. I suggest you buy a 1 TB Barracuda. It's the best one in its class right now.

get all ur data backed up that is Important. The clicking is the Start of the Death of ur HDD.

but "for other data games etc no issue u can keep on it as this clicking is a luck thing one of my 2TB HDD is Clicking from 1 and half year its still alive but it can die any time and u hve to be mentally ready for it".

its a Hit or Miss yes " but with new u get 1 year warranty so its not going anywhere for atleast 1year".

get from a good seller new HDD wont fail u atleast 3-5year.. unless u have no backup power and ur pc restarts everytime ur Electricity gets disrupted.

It is dying. I once had the same issue. I repaired it but after some time, it used to get back to where it was. I made a backup, got a new HDD and enjoying right now
