Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma is becoming an anime series at Netflix

On Tuesday, Netflix announced a slate of original anime series coming to the streaming platform, including an unexpected surprise: a new anime series based on Capcom’s action-RPG game Dragon’s Dogma.
Netflix’s Dragon’s Dogma series being developed by animation studio Sublimation Inc., a company that specializes in 3D CGI animation and is embarking on its first original projects. According to an official description of the anime series:

The story follows a man’s journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. On his way, the man is brought back to life as an ‘Arisen’. An action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans.

“Sublimation team has long dreamt of working on our own title,” said Atsushi Koishikawa, representative director of Sublimation Inc., in a press release. “We have oftentimes worked with partner studios to create partial CGI portions within a given title, so we feel very fortunate to work with Netflix through this production line deal. We’re excited to bring our unique cel shaded animation that carries hand-drawn textures to anime fans around the world.”
Netflix’s upcoming anime series include studio Anima’s Altered Carbon: Resleeved, an animated spinoff of the live-action sci-fi series released in 2018; Spriggan, based on the manga of the same name, from David Production; Production I.G’s Ghost in the Shell: SAC _2045; Wit Studio’s Vampire in the Garden; and Bones’ Super Crooks, based on the comic book created by writer Mark Millar and artist Leinil Francis Yu.
Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma was first released in 2012. The core game was directed by longtime Devil May Cry series lead Hideaki Itsuno, and Capcom released an expanded version, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, in 2013. That game is coming to Nintendo Switch in April.
