Hi, I have heard government lifted sales tax and advance income tax on broadband services. Can somebody confirm the actual position on this. If correct it shall either reduce the monthly bill or the broadband company shall offer higher speeds in the existing package

It has been "Proposed", after the approval will see the date from which it comes in to effect, after that we will get the new rates.

Anyways, it is a start, from almost bankrupt at the end of previous govt to current state where we can reduce taxes is a good indicator of economic stability and progress. Still a long way to go where daily use items get cheaper, but it is a start and it would bring more confidence to investors.

Major portion of the tax was Punjab Service Sales Tax levied on Internet services @ 19.50%. In that area there is no change so this wouldn't have a major impact on bill

Federal Excise Duty on Internet and Phone is reduced from 17% to 16% and Advance Tax on Internet is reduced from 12.5% to 10% with effect from 01 July 2021 in budget 2021-2022.
