Hey,

Iam a 2nd year Alevel student currently with subjects of physics, math and chemistry.I scored A B B in AS level. Now i need some advice on what to do further.

Either

Do BBA from IBA and MBA from IBA/LUMS/Abroad.

Or

Do Bachelors in mechanical engineering from karachi nust or ned and get MBA from IBA/LUMS/Abroad.

Now i know most of you will say do what your interested in,but truth be told,Iam interested in whatever iam studying.I just want to know which one has more value both here and abroad.Iam more of a business oriented/coorporate person and wish to be at a managing position or a high post such as ceo etc.

Please suggest me on what should i pursue tht would land me a good job and has a better market.

Thanks.

well logically speakin ur 2nd option doesnt make sense .. agar mba he larna hai then y waste time in engineering ???
but ... on personel esperience ... an engineering degree with some work exprecirnce and then an mba from abroad can launch u to new heights! ...
but i wud say! u wana b expert in some thing do ONE thing ...
go for engineering ... get into GIK NUST ... do ur half degree here and then transfer ur self to any abroad uni!
complete ur degree ... do masters also in same field ... or if ur job demands do mba! ...

Thing is,people are saying that bachelors in engineering is hard to do,especially if i dont have interest in it.I want to get to corporate side and want future prospects like managing,Banking,CEO etc.

Well in reply to this post... I will say to you to go for a BBA from LUMS/IBA/LSE...... Ur main interest seems to be on this side.... After that do an MBA from either France, UK or Spain and voila u will have a strong education background.... This will help you a lot in your career....

realistically, job-wise your better bet is the engineering line... some may disagree but here are the facts...
1. Internationally...
engineering holds great value in mid east and internationally... i have several uncles with free cars, free homes, free electricity who live in mid east with family get paid in cash to work 6 months to 1 year contracts at a time and are rolling in cash...
bba from pakistan has no value outside and little here even....(try acca or ca if you want to broaden your horizons and options... bba is an easy way out with only the best of the very best getting good jobs these days in PK or outside...... even after doing mba)
BBA/MBA and BCOM/MBA kee lumbee lumbee line lagee huey hai job kay liye

2. engineering jobs are many and specialization degrees are SO MANY OPTIONS (even MBA if later you decide its not your thing)... i have an engineer friend FROM pakistan (Degree FROM PK)... who is on the Bungie development team (halo crew) seriously. my chacha is a electronics engineer for Ford in detroit.... the options are endless....
with BBA your limited and will probably just end up doing MBA

3 Realistically economy SUCKS right now, both for pakistan and outside world...
business jobs are really hard to get these days,
engineering jobs there will always be a need for...

BUT its not like you CANT succeed doing BBA/MBA
To be honest.. in the end no matter which field you decide if you work hard and achieve the top 1% in your field you will ALWAYS be succesful...
but u do have alot more options open in engineering.

just my thoughts, hope you find them helpful.

^i've been in the local industry for 4 months, and there are jobs, but not for fresh grads. same is the case for the rest of the places you mentioned. the reason is the due to the recession, no one wants a fresh kid and then waste many resources on teaching/training him. people with prior skill are getting jobs, and they are advancing as well . e.g. my uni class fellow (a theta) and i work at the same place, but that guy although an emotion less robot and very annoying, has an amazing mind cause of which he is being paid Rs 60k / month salary and I being his class fellow and work fellow am getting paid less than half of that.
so bhahiya engineering mein sirf skill bolta hai, and offcourse the biggest factor of 'em all, LUCK.

@ shahbazi:
if you want to do the bba/mba thing, go abroad, do it from there and then STAY there. for engineering, u can always do the bachelors from here, then do your masters from abroad. regarding the posts you mentioned, you may become an HR (Human Resource , Admin) manager after doing bba/mba. That too after spending 5 - 6 years in a company. If you do engineering, then regardless you do mba or not, after 6-8 years experience, you're bound to be given the post of Senior Manager Engineering in which a team of engineers will be your subordinates.

As far becoming a CEO of a company, spend more than 20 years in a small company and they might make you the CEO. if you want that title early, open your own company.

Ok seriously you guys have helped me alot with well informed replys.Iam leering more towards the engineering side as it is more flexible. But then comes the question of which university to do it from and which field. And does Mechatronic engineering have scope?Besides that,Is there scope for engineering in pk?

Mechanical engineering holds alot of scope within and outside pakistan, I mean you have alot of options to specialize in.I myself am a student of mechanical engineering, and believe me I had no interest in engineering when I was at your stage. But once you start studying a particular domain, the interest develops itself.Try getting admission in GIKI or NUST, if you cant get in these, NED is always an option.I m in NED btw.And engineering is not hard at all >_>

dude seriously eff the scope
i would have dropped engg after the first two weeks if going into engg wasnt wat i really really wanted.

not that engg is tough, but the students of bba and engg are miles apart.

do what you really want to do.
as a general rule (extremely stereotypical) engg is more into field job (BE atleast,ME or MSc is a diff story)
bba= white collar

if you are really intersted in engg, you should go for BE graduate, get some experience after you get substantial experience, get an executive MBA degree

again eff the scope, forget which field will make you more money.

you'll be successful if you're good in either of those fields.

Engineering is a professional degree. The world will always need engineers. BBA may land you a white collar job, but you will be preferred over a BBA+MBA if you have engineering to back up your MBA.

The best answer can be given by you only, the main concern should be: "what you want to be".
For Engineering: no comparison with NUST
For BBA= go with IBA/ LUMS(if can afford or can get admission) otherwise CBM/SZABIST are good options.

---------- Post added at 12:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:38 PM ----------

Ok m going for engineering. So which university is best in pk for M.E?
NUST is ranked 366 all over the world a/c to QS World Universities Ranking 2010 and ranked 1st in Pakistan. UET comes in 2nd place. go with any in which you can manage. For me NUST is a much better option as they have discipline in control in University.

i am from nust i will prime institutes in pakistan are
for engineering =giki (esp me and ee best in pakistan without doubt )
for business=lums
iba is no more a good institute ,lse i better even nust bba can compete with it ....nust is after giki but giki market in multinational ,its a grade in uk universities, foreign faculty, campus ,qs ranking are ridiculous that why they dont have giki and lums giki stood 3rd in asia time ranking 1998 most autiencated and lums stood 7 ...just that they guraduated 350 in year i advise if you are great student and can afford
be from giki (great if its in me or ee)
mba from lums
best ever combination

Since u asked this question u probably have no interest in engineering and I would advice you to go for bba and mba

Generally for a level students its easier to get into iba/lums then nust unless u're going on sat

Lums is better than iba but iba still holds a solid 2nd position imo
I've seen ads of jobs exclusive for iba students
There is a state bank paid volunteer job exclusive for iba students so if u plan to stay in pakistan go for bba

If u can manage abroad go for it
Those grades probablly won't get u into mcgill but nottingham should be pretty easy...aim high though

I'm doing ee from nust and it was a bit hard to manage coming from a level...
And qs rating is BS
