Deathstroke Is Once Again Off-Limits For Arrow Deathstroke is once again off-limits for Arrow, according to co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim. Slade Wilson used to be an incredibly important part of Oliver Queen’s world. Slowly, though, the character’s presence diminished to near non-existence. Yet, Manu Bennett was able to return to Arrow in the season 5 finale, as well as an abbreviated season 6 arc. Evidently, though, that will be the last time fans can get to see that iteration of the character for awhile. This isn’t the first time that Arrow has been told characters are off-limits by DC. The show had obvious plans to build a Suicide Squad arc surrounding the character of John Diggle. There were even hints of Harley Quinn being introduced to the show, at one point. Those plans were then halted when David Ayers’ Suicide Squad movie was put into production. Now, Arrow has run into another similar production roadblock with Deathstroke. At ACE Comic Com, Discussing Film interviewed Arrow co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim. When the topic of Deathstroke appearing again on Arrow was breached, Guggenheim responded:These are DC’s characters, we’re just renting them ya know, so we use the characters that they tell us we can use when we can use them, and we work around whatever limitations that places us … For a time they were saying ‘you can’t use Deathstroke’, and that changed and we were able to have Slade Wilson back on the show, and now we’re back to ‘you can’t use him’. They’re working on the feature film version, it really is sort of now that you’ve got obviously Slade, spoiler alert, Deathstroke appears at the end of the Justice League movie.Guggenheim’s comments are about as blunt as can be imagined. The reason Arrow fans won’t be able to see Manu Bennett is because of the DC cinematic universe. With Joe Manganiello becoming Slade Wilson on the big screen, there’s no room for a televised Deathstroke. It’s all a bit strange, though. Mainly, DC and Warner Bros. haven’t exactly been consistent in which characters can and can’t be used by the Arrowverse. In addition to Guggenheim saying that availability to Deathstroke has been a revolving door, there are much more obvious examples. Grant Gustin as Barry Allen leads his own TV series but there’s another Flash in the DC film franchise played by a completely different actor. There’s also the matter that Superman is a supporting character in Supergirl. It seems strange that Deathstroke, of all characters, is being singled out.If any character should be able be open to multiple interpretations it’s a smaller one like Slade. It would be understandable if two Superman or Flash versions were too confusing but not a character like Deathstroke. That said, Deathstroke being less well-known could be the reason why DC feels the need to limit the character’s appearances. There’s already enough confusion between Deathstroke and (the much better known) Deadpool. The one solace that fans can take is that Arrow did manage to give Slade Wilson a send-off in season 6. Deathstroke parted ways with his on-again and off-again archenemy, Oliver Queen, to locate his son, Grant. Deathstroke’s most recent Arrow episode did imply that the character could be back. Still, the episode does work as a farewell, even if it’s a retroactive one. Hopefully though DC will reverse their decision (again) soon.More: Colton Haynes Returning to Arrow for Season 6Arrow returns January 18 with ‘Divided’ on The CW.Source: Discussing Film

[h=1]Arrow Season 7 Features Roy Harper As Series Regular[/h]

Colton Haynes will be a part of Arrow season 7, as a series regular, reprising his role as Roy Harper. Colton Haynes left Arrow as a series regular in season 3. Roy took the fall for Oliver and publicly declared himself to be the Green Arrow. Roy was imprisoned but eventually Oliver and the rest freed him. The character was forced to go on the run and his fugitive status is the reason that Oliver’s sidekick was no longer apart of the team. (The real reason being that Colton Haynes wanted to move on from Arrow.) Now though the actor is back full-time.
This news comes as a bit of a shock as Arrow recently wrote off Roy (again). Colton Haynes returned to Arrow in the season 6 episodes, “Doppelganger” and “The Thanatos Guild” to usher in the exit of Willa Holland as Thea Queen. Roy and Thea rode off into the sunset, after a long time apart. Evidently, their happily ever seems like it will be ending prematurely.

CBR
broke the news of Haynes’ return. In a statement, Arrow‘s executive producers said of the new/old series regular:

We’re very fortunate and excited to welcome back Colton to Arrow. While we’ve always enjoyed Colton’s returns to the show, we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him return as a proper series regular and we’re very excited about all the creative opportunities Roy Harper’s return affords us.
Arrow never really said a full goodbye to Haynes or Roy Harper. After his departure in season 3, Haynes returned briefly in season 4. The character also appeared as a memory during Arrow‘s landmark 100th episode, “Invasion!” Although that was mostly created with archival footage. Still this is a huge reversal on the status quo of Arrow. Roy’s return suggests a lot about the future of the series.

As mentioned, Roy’s return does change the perception of Thea’s goodbye. Thea left Star City with Roy and Nyssa to destroy three Lazarus Pits in “The Thanatos Guild”. Though the mission was Thea and Nyssa’s “responsibility,” Roy pledged to go with to be by Thea’s side. Now things will have obviously changed. While it’s not guaranteed Roy will be in Star City for Arrow season 7, the possibilities are very, very high. This will, obviously, make it a little difficult to help Thea on her international Lazarus destroying mission.

Arrow doesn’t necessarily need to break Thea and Roy up (again) to have him return to Star City. It will, however, take a lot of explanation to justify why Roy is around and Thea isn’t by his side. Thea could send Roy away to keep an eye on Oliver or Roy could just figure he’s better used in Star City than trying to destroy magical resurrection pits. While Thea’s departure seemed final from a show perspective, the mission wasn’t meant to last the rest of her life. However dire it might seem, this could just be a temporary separation between the two.
At the very least, Roy’s return will shake up the dynamics of Team Arrow. Arrow season 6 is currently delving into a story that has seen the team split in two, with the new members forming their own crime-fighting unit. John Diggle, Oliver’s right-hand-man since season 1, recently quit the team too over a dispute with the Green Arrow and his team leadership. Roy’s return suggests that Oliver will at least have one his original allies by his side when the show returns for season 7.
Although given the series’ penchant for twists and how much the endgame of the current season has been kept shrouded in mystery, nothing might be that simple.

Arrow
continues Thursday, April 12 with “Fundamentals” at 9pm ET on The CW.

Arrow Season 6 Finale is 'Unconventional' & Drops Big DC Comics Tease

Tonight fans can expect an "unconventional" finale for season 6 of Arrow, which will also name-drop an important DC Comics team: the Longbow Hunters. According to showrunner Marc Guggenheim, the reference is used as a way of "planting a flag" for season 7.
In tonight's finale, titled "Life Sentence", Oliver (Stephen Amell) and his allies will face off against Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) for the final showdown. In last week's episode, Diaz went all-in on killing Oliver and everyone close to him. Oliver and the others narrowly survived and reunited to strike back against Diaz. Team Arrow scored a brief victory over Diaz, who was forced to escape. The episode ended with Oliver revealing his secret identity to FBI agent Samandra Watson in exchange for help against Diaz and the Quadrant.

In an interview with TV Line, Guggenheim talks about how his last episode as showrunner will serve as an "unconventional" finale with "four big surprises-slash-developments," which is the most they've ever included in a finale. Apparently, the episode is "unconventionally structured" due to the fact that it has an usually long resolution which begins in Act 4, rather than Act 5.
We achieve an emotional denouement that is, I want to say pretty rare for a finale for us. Usually our finales are very bombastic and visceral and with a lot of fireworks — and there are plenty of fireworks here; James Bamford directed the episode! — but by the end of it you feel emotionally spent. I feel like it’s the most emotionally affecting of the series finales we’ve had on the show.

Guggenheim also mentions that "Life Sentence" will include a reference to the Longbow Hunters, a team of Green Arrow villains from the comics founded by Diaz's comic book counterpart, Richard Dragon. The team's purpose is to eliminate the Green Arrow. Guggenheim compares the reference to the way that the season 3 finale provided the setup for Damien Darhk's introduction in season 4. On the chances of the Longbow Hunters appearing in the future, Guggenheim says, "We would be [not nice people] to name-drop the Longbow Hunters and not see them in season 7."
It could be that Diaz will somehow survive the events of the season 6 finale and go on to become one of the Longbow Hunters who may terrorize Oliver next season. It remains to be seen if Arrow's Longbow Hunters will consist of existing or new villains of the Green Arrow - or a mixture of both.
It's not clear if the Longbow Hunters are in any way tied to the four developments that will play out in the finale. The surprising twists may have more to do with Oliver's confession to Agent Watson, as many fans are concerned that Oliver will publicly reveal his secret identity. Team Arrow, who will be joined by Caity Lotz's Sara Lance, will be up against a lot as they try to defeat Diaz for the last time. With so much at stake, the episode could mark the end for a fan-favorite character or two, including Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), who we knowwon't be coming back for season 7.

I'm still stuck on episode 11, wondering if its worth to continue. The first half wasn't great and after an epic S5, I'm not sure it could be topped. So has it picked up and gotten better or has it followed the same path as S4?

[h=1]Arrow Season 7: Ricardo Diaz Actor Upped To Series Regular[/h]

Kirk Acevedo, who plays Ricardo Diaz on Arrow, has been promoted to series regular for the show's seventh season. Acevedo's character is based on The New 52 version of kung fu master Richard Dragon. Diaz, who was the main villain of season 6, will continue to be a threat to Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and his friends in season 7.
At the beginning of season 6, Diaz was a drug dealer and a member of a cabal of villains, led by Cayden James (Michael Emerson). It was eventually revealed that both Team Arrow and James had been manipulated by Diaz, the true mastermind of the plan to hold Star City hostage. After rising through the ranks and gaining a position of power at the massive criminal organization known as the Quadrant, Diaz continued to push Oliver to his limits. Oliver had to give up his secret identity - and his freedom - to defeat Diaz. Unfortunately, he was unable to prevent Diaz from escaping, which means that Oliver hasn't seen the last of the Dragon.

Deadline reports that Kirk Acevedo has been upped to series regular. This makes Diaz the second character to become a series regular after spending a season as the main antagonist. Malcolm Merlyn, played by John Barrowman, was the big bad of season 1 before going on to become a major supporting character during seasons 3 and 4.

The news indicates that Diaz will continue to be a thorn in Oliver's side for quite some time. As for what Diaz will be up to, the SDCC 2018 trailer for season 7 reveals that Diaz will be out for revenge. Diaz will be looking to take out his frustrations on everyone Oliver cares about, which suggests that Oliver's family and Team Arrow could be in his crosshairs.

To accomplish his goals, Diaz will recruit a team of his own, the Longbow Hunters.
Teased in the season 6 finale, the Longbow Hunters were confirmed to be joining the series at SDCC 2018 and were introduced in a recent trailer. Joining Diaz in his hunt for the Green Arrow are Red Dart (Holly Elissa), Kodiak (Michael Jonsson), and the Silencer (Miranda Edwards). Since the name of the second episode is "The Longbow Hunters", fans may not have to wait long for the supervillain team to make their Arrowverse debut.

Arrow season 7 premieres Monday, October 15th on The CW.
