just played the game for like an hour and the best thing so far has been the tense music..the human AI is retarded (i was sitting next to a guy and he didnt notice me..shuffled around for a bit and then he saw me) the visuals are nothing really impressive, yes the world has a lot of detail if you have enough time to look at every graffiti on the wall or every scrap of paper on the ground, but in terms of textures its nothing really special. I have only seen 2 human deaths so far and i was surprised by the lack of blood and gore in one of them. The dialogue delivery is really bland as if no one was interested in doing voice over work, especially during cinematics.
Character facial design is really cool (the only game with such facial animations i have seen before was Crysis 3) but the overall design is meh and everyone moves in a really weird way! And where the fuck are them particles and shizz which should be in air!?!?! Playing the game with all settings maxed out and the world seems pretty much dead besides the scattered objects on the ground which you can bump into (which by the way move in a messed up way if you bump in them..i walked over a screwdriver and it fucking jumped in the air!)

Lol, yeah I encountered a floating revolver and thought zero g then realised my character was still rooted to the ground :) I think overall the sound design IS the best thing. Till the alien starts hunting you. The androids kinda freak me out though. And I really like the design of the station too. The game looks good enough to me in 1080p and happily it runs smoothly, but I agree that the animations and AI are clunky for humans.

[h=2]Players found a way to enable Oculus Rift VR support in Alien: Isolation[/h]

If you're finding the experience of playing Alien: Isolation not quite terrifying enough (and you have the means), perhaps you should try playing the PC version of the game in immersive virtual reality with an Oculus Rift. While not officially supported by Sega and developer The Creative Assembly, players have uncovered a relatively easy way to enable Rift VR support in the new Alien game.

The Creative Assembly added virtual reality support to Alien: Isolation for a special E3 demo of the game — which we found worked terrifyingly well — but it took a handful of developers and enthusiasts posting to Reddit and the Oculus VR forums to work out a solution for the retail release.

Getting the game to recognize the Rift and present Isolation in VR mode requires editing a few text and XML files and configuring a couple Rift settings, but the implementation appears pretty painless. Here are the instructions, via Reddit.

Based on the response from Rift dev kit owners who say they're playing Alien: Isolation in VR mode, the experience — although unofficial — is great.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here possess an Oculus Rift kit?
was going to get one but it would be pretty pointless right now since you need to pay the full price for the next iteration..will probably get one around mid 2015

Shit this game is crazy at times. The Alien jumps at you out of nowhere when he's supposed to be in the other corner of the hall. I've never been more scared to move in a game.

Creative Assembly wanted parity between PS4 and Xbox One and on the basis of image quality, detail and effects work it has managed it, but while native 1080p sharpness may please Xbox One owners, it has come at a cost, because while the Xbox One version delivers the core Alien experience mostly intact, overall immersion is compromised by frequent drops in fluidity. Performance is obviously the deciding factor here and it's clear PS4 has a distinct advantage. As such the PS4 game gets our recommendation for console owners, even though we're left with the nagging feeling that 60fps should have been possible on Sony's hardware based on the game's PC showing.

It's worth noting that Alien: Isolation takes advantage of specific features in both consoles to enrich the gameplay experience. PlayStation Camera and Kinect offer head-tracking so you can physically lean to look around corners in the game, while the microphone allows the Alien to track you via real-world audio. The DualShock 4 speaker also outputs the pulse of your motion tracker, which is a nice touch. These features can be disabled if they aren't to your taste, but we enjoyed them.

The last-gen releases of Alien: Isolation feature all of the core elements found in the PS4, Xbox One and PC releases to successfully recreate the suspense and much of the atmosphere of the top-end versions. However, the experience is compromised by low frame-rates and a rough, sub-720p presentation that makes it much harder to remain immersed. Xbox 360 gets the nod here, although some detail is lost to black crush in darker areas.
In the final analysis, the PC game is the definitive version of Alien: Isolation. While the level of graphical quality is only marginally improved over PS4 and Xbox One, the game is easy to run across a wide range of configurations, so 1080p at 60fps is achievable on older GPUs without having to dramatically lower graphical presets, while the low system requirements of the game easily open up running at 1440p at high frame-rates. A key advantage of PC gaming is the ability to scale the experience to your specific hardware, and the headroom available in Alien: Isolation opens up a vast range of options. Oculus Rift, anyone?

Graphics are nothing to write home about. I'm easily pulling off Vsync'd 60 fps at all times with everything cranked up to the maximum. I find it very surprising that neither consoles aren't even able to manage 60 fps, let alone maintain a stable 30 fps, given how smoothly it runs on even a medium spec PC. Shoddy piece of console coding maybe :p ?

I decided to play the DLCs first for the nostalgia bit, and to be honest I found Crew Expendable to be pretty meh overall. The Last Survivor, however, was nerve-wrecking tense. Especially when you arm the detonation sequence and have to run across from one part of the ship to another, you literally almost crap your pants atleast once along the way. Sigourney Weaver once again pulled off that amazing feat she did with her character in the movie, it really builds up the tension even further. 10/10 for Last Survivor.

The main story plot is pretty dull though and I'm taking my time playing through it. But damn the human AI is pretty damn retarded. At one point they wouldn't detect you at point blank range, and some times they'll detect you half across the room even if you're in sneak mode and in the shadows

Alien bits are hardly frightening, they're more frustrating so to speak. Last Survivor managed it perfectly.

[h=2]Alien: Isolation just got a lot harder (and easier) thanks to a new update[/h]

Sega and The Creative Assembly released an update for Alien: Isolation this week that's aimed at players who think the sci-fi horror game is just too easy ... or too hard.

Alien: Isolation now comes with a new "Nightmare" difficulty mode that includes a deadlier xenomorph, harder hitter androids and more aggressive human survivors. Players also have to contend with fewer resources and can no longer see their health bar, ammo count or flashlight indicator. To make matters worse, players have to use a broken motion tracker that gives them "unreliable information."

If that sounds like the least attractive set of changes ever, you might be more suited to Isolation's new "Novice" difficulty. Players of the new easier difficulty will face a slower, less adaptive alien who is easier to distract and hide from. On top of that, protagonist Amanda Ripley is more resilient, all of which gives players "more time and breathing space with which to explore Sevastopol."

The full list of changes coming in both new modes are available at the official Alien: Isolation website. For more on Alien: Isolation, read Polygon's review of the game.
