Alevel student caught in university dillema..Please advice

Iam an A level student who is doing Alevels privately.Iam in 2nd year and I got A B B in physics maths and chemistry in my A1.Now heres whats bothering me.

My friend who got straight As in Alevels science subjects went to give his GIKI entry test and f'ed it up.He said that it was all based on inter and that it wasn't remotely close to Alevel.I didnt believe him at first but when I checked out GIKI's pastpapers,I saw the same trend.Same was the case with NUST,NED and UET.

Being an aspiring engineering student,Iam really worried what will happen for me.I cant afford universities in canada and america(who can?) and the entry tests here comprise of inter content.

What do i do?I really want to go to a good uni.I was aspiring for GIKI and NUST but the entry tests are all inter based.You guys suggest what should i do.Is there any other option left for me?

Really, what is wrong with the entry tests and why such a big fuss about it. Th tests are similar to SATs more than it is to inter, which means that the paper curriculum is similar to A1 papers with a bit of A2.

Mate, dont worry just pick up a entry exam preparation books for Engineering unis from Dogar or Faridi or others and inshallah you will pass it. But do note that the papers are really not halwa, and you do need to prepare for it. Get the books and the sample papers and study hard and soon you will get to your dream uni.

i am also an Alevel student and i feel the same..
thing is give SAT papers
if u like get 1300-1400 score u can apply in nust or giki on the bases of sats
a couple of my frnds did that and nw they are in gik and nust..
so better give sat as well......and plus there was a board of education equivalence something in islamabad or lahore...when u give them your a level grades they give u an equivalence board of our choice certificate...like this is equivalent to that many numbers...

basically i would try go to canada or uk on scholarships if i cant then sat is the best thing....

I could do that but Alevel and SAT subject tests together isnt a great idea.Canada and UK have really limited scholarships for international students.I tried searching for engineering unis abroad and except for malaysia,its really expensive.Malaysian unis have a bad ranking in the world.Im gonna join anees hussain for test prep..But what if i dont get in the unis,then what?

yar just give it ur best shot theres not much u can do except work hard for it
GIKI and NUST entry is pretty tuff even for Inter students just put ur heart into

btw theres always Sirsyed in Karachi as consolation (sm1)

Which site did you check for rankings cuz last I remember their unis were on top hundred. Which is better than most Unis in UK and Australia.

Dont be a silly nilly. have the confidence and you will pass,

otherwise no matter what you learn the fear will always make ya fail.

i understand where your'e coming from
there are quite a lot of differences in our and inter syllabus, i just passed my Alvls this year ... what i suggest you to do is give sat 1 and sat 2 (FAST accepts them) , and try to apply on their basis , but even then you will have to study fsc books after you are done with your Alvls exams...

In my opninon, A-Levels karo = If u want to apply abroad.

why not do FSc and then apply, no nonsense easy approach. ?

Also all this FSc being Ratta and all, it doesnt matter when ur in uni, ur all treated as equal and all have to study just as hard.

What do u guys say ?

Bro thats true but I realized that really late when I had completed my Alevel 1st year.

tht is exactly the reason why most of us did Inter instead of ALevel

the Physics Chemistry and Maths they teach in Engineering universities is one step above Inter and Alevel so it evens out the fact tht Alevel students have better concepts of these subjects

First select where you want to apply, and then worry about the tests. I hardly studied for SAT, and still cleared it. It was not that hard. And if you secured good marks in A level, then why not shoot for a scholarship?

NUST, NED, GIKI etc are all good universities, but GIKI is the most expensive university as far as I know. If I were you I first try NUST than (if you can afford) GIKI and lastly NED. (my personal opinion)

As of now those brain-dead monkeys at IBCC haven't even tried to understand this new A* grading system, most likely what they'll do is make A* equivalent to what was previously A, make A equivalent to what was previously B and so on, this is an easy way out, and I think that's the option they'll take. If they do, then we're all screwed badly!

actually no....i didnt study for the first 3 semesters of my uni...nd still maintain a great gpa, just cause of the concepts..alecels opens up your mind...its a bit hard to explain

im in a hurry so i dont really know where the thread is at so sorry if i sound outta place.

i did my o and a levels,
i gave my nust entrance exam the same day pakistan won the t20 wc (had it not been for that match i myt have gone into permanent depression, sport ftw)

even though i thought i effed up the exam, i guess luck was smiling down on me and i got in.
im doing eng from khi campus and my advice to everyone would be

RUN AS FAR AWAY AS U CAN.

still if, like me, you're hell bent on doing engg and have absolutely zero probability of going abroad then AND ONLY THEN go for it.

the thing is evenn if you do make it here the whole system is nothing like o a levels,
it takes some effort to get used to, but hey if you made it this far.


anyway down to facts
sat 2 is your home ground, ace that you have a shot at getting it, but there are only one or 2 reserved seats

if you wanna go the tough way i recommend you take tutions (to get a hang of what comes in the entrance exam)
get anees hussain material and stuff, you dont really have to join, call in favours from friend who took tutions,

oh yeah? i cleared all 11 papers except for 1 basically got lecture notes 2 days before each exam and studied in 1 day beat tht (sm1)
mind u we had Annual system = 2x Semesters aint it xD

I have NEVER studied before any english or Maths paper. I simply go through the formulas, and English is simple...for me at least.
