A GPU that can go good with my system...

Hi guys,
I'm looking to upgrade my GPU because I really want to move on from Counter strike now... My computer specs are..

Pentium 4 2.02 GHZ
some gigabyte motherboard
512mb ram
5500 geforce fx nvidia

so i wana play games like cod4 and other fps games at good settings and framerates with 1024x768 resolution or possibly 1200 wali resolution if my computer can handle it... I'm going to buy a new PC next month so this is just going to be a temporary upgrade...

I was thinking of buying an ATI HD 4670 gpu but i don't know if it would work well with my system so please guys i need your guidance...

If you have any other suggestions, please list them... I really need help!

Do you guys think I should wait until next month or do you think I should just buy this card and buy a motherboard that supports crossfire and buy 4850 or 4870...?

Either way, please tell me what you think, i'm in need of help! remember tho that i need it for games!

ALSO FORGOT TO MENTION MY BUDGET IS 5K BUT I CAN GO UPTO 7.5K IF ITS WORTH IT...

Bhai for ur P4 2GHz ur current FX5500 is enough. So i would strongly suggest u to upgrade ur rest of the system coz u seriously need it.

If you are going to buy a new PC next month then why buy a card now which you'll have to sell next month. I would say save your money for the next month upgrade.

1) 4850 and 4870 arent for P4
2) crossfirex boards arent for p4 becuase of bottleneck
3) 4870 or 4850 dont cost 5-7.5k


Just wait and get proper Core 2 Duo or Quad system.

sorry didn't notice that u were already gonna upgrade ur system next month.

Just tell us ur budget for complete system so that we may suggest u what's best for u. Gpu is the next thing after system so leave it for now coz no current gpu will work with ur old system coz ur old system is having AGP interface while new cards are using PCI Express interface.

oh sorry guys i meant 4670! oh big mistake sorry! if u guys think i shud upgrade my cpu too shud i buy e5200? and leave the rest of the components as they are? and a new psu too ofcourse! what psu wud u suggest? thanks for all the replies!

budget for cpu is 10k max.

you'll need to upgrade the entire system, including mobo. since ure running a fx5500, u have an old mobo which probably wont have support for C2Ds. therefore go for a complete system upgrade (mobo, proc, ram and vga) if u plan on running the newer games.

Post the name of the motherboard. I suspect it's a motherboard with AGP slot. HD4670 is a PCI-E card and is not compatible with AGP.

well i checked my system's compatibility with battlefield 2 at systemrequirementslab and one of the few gfx cards they recommended were 4670 and 4650
is their any way to find out my motherboard through my system? i dont have its box with me right now :S

i think any thing higher then 6800 then is useless for you and I am also in doubt about pci-e slot in your mobo but you can get 6 series in agp as well.

thanks guys for all ur replies but i think im gona go with a ps3 slim now... my relatives are in america atm and since ps3 slims are already out, ill get them to bring one for me its cheap and worth it imo...

Simply tell us what is your budget for whole system. Don't buy any thing now wait for next month. But first tell us how much is your budget.

my budget is 60k because i was thinking of buying ps3 and a good lcd... even if i buy a computer id probably be getting an lcd too so u can cut off 15k (?) from that so 45k for a cpu i guess... BUT if u think i shudnt buy an lcd and just spend the money on the cpu alone then okay

If you are getting a PS3 then no need to upgrade your PC because by looking at your current PC, it is obvious that you need a completely new PC to play current Gen. and Next Gen. games.
So leave PC where it is and buy the console you were going to buy.
