Yeah - if someone in PTCL has access to a pool of usernames and passwords, and if there's zero sense of privacy and security, then this is possible.

But good advice on the "keep your router on" to prevent others from connecting. I never turned mine off (ever) so I'm not fussed, but I'll now tell others (who turn theirs off at night) not to.

Why would you turn off ONT at night?
The reason's very simple, ONT plugs into an extension lad which then plugs into socket which has UPS backup.
Now that extension also houses 3 external HDD adapters and my 32" Asus 4K IPS panel. I don't want power to those devices even on standby mode when i know i am not gonna use them for next 12 or so hours hence i turn em off.

Now i have moved ONT to another socket which has no UPS backup meaning if light goes now so will my internet.

And thus, mister PTCL hacker will use your precious GBs during your loadshedding.

Woohoo!

Maybe add a separate extension connected to the UPS point for your TV and for your ONT?

That's not how services are supposed to work. I am paying for the full service so its my right to use it however i want, whenever i want. Its ptcl's job to fix their mess and provide better security to their customers.
I should'nt Have to keep my ONT up 24/7 365 to ensure no one from the ptcl own employees can use it.
And it's just your own opinion to keep ONT running all the time. Everyone has their own preferences, does'nt mean one is right or wrong.

I never disagreed on the PTCL fixing their systems part - in case it wasn't clear, I was being a bit sarcastic on them using your GBs.

In just 7 days after start of month my internet usage is 300GB download and 11GB upload which is really strange as there is almost zero usage of internet at my home. Last month i got 752GB download and 56GB upload. Whats really strange is upload.. how can it be 56GB.

Well 3-4 years ago i was on a old exchange which was very congested and like atleast 12 hours out of 24 i was getting 60-150KB/sec download on my 10Mbps connection which means at the times when i was home i was getting almost no speed. Insane packet losses, Couldnt play any online game. Surfing was pretty much dead. Youtube was working only at 144p. And in those times my internet data usage was 700GB+.
I complained on 1218 and twitter many times to not bill me because i didnt get any usable speed and bill kept building up and up to almost 40k rupees which even with applications in exchange never got resolved even i was assured this will bill will be fixed. And it ended up that i had to pay the bill to get my connection shifted to new exchange... They never bothered to disconnect my connection when i didnt pay bill for 2 months and almost 1 year + passed since ptcl was my only option.
They knew their exchange was way too much overloaded and they knew that i will end up paying the bill. so they never bothered to disconnect my internet even the rule is after 2 months of non payment the internet gets disconnected.
They told me "Sir Apka net bilkul thek chal raha ha speedtest par puri speed ha or apka data bht use hota ha jo kay proof ha kay apko speed bht achi milti ha" They also said "We dont throttle at peak hours". + Also said "All our users get full speed 24/7"

As for checking who stole and used your Account "Ptcl login info for modem connection" its pretty easy access for exchange people.
Its simple all they have to see is which telephone number was connected using your "Account Info" .
Or maybe ptcl system is pretty pathetic to check a simple thing.

Even if you do that its a simple matter of disconnecting you from ptcl's end.
In other words its a peace of cake to disconnect any modem or restart it since they have control over your modem from backend. That is why ptcl dont need to share username and password of device to its user because they can do settings from any city "Remotely".
My point is they can use anyone's ip/ ptcl connection when ever they want by simply disconnecting the original owner of that ip/Account :)

most probably someone activated your 100mb internet profile on their number. I don't know how it works just speculating

Yes exactly, that's why keeping your ONT on/off wouldn't make any difference.
I have been using ptcl internet since 2008, started with dsl 512KB/s when they announced their 256,512 & 1mbit package for the first time. For past 14 years i always turned off my modem at night. This is the first time it happened.

The guy choose to do this on Eid days because he knew that i won't be able to visit exchange so he can enjoy my 100 Mbit which is 150 Mbit (Promotional offer) for the eid holidays.

For past 14 years i always turned off my modem at night. This is the first time it happened.
Once back when it was dsl days, i opened 192.168.1.1 to check line stats. And it opened modem page of somebody's else modem. It was showing different interface, line stats, sync speeds, attainable speeds. Everything was different.

I immediately got worried how the hell is this possible my copper wire giving me access to someone's else modem just through copper wire. I called ptcl and they said "Its not possible". I told them i am not lying i saw what i saw. He was like sir is there anything else i can help u with...

And in those days i used to have dead internet speed never went above 150KB/sec. I always wondered was someone stealing my speed. I kinda believe someone was.

Nowadays youtube videos at 1080p look super compressed. 4k high bitrate videos with serious compression.
Most people will probably wont notice it. But its happening.

Other countries 400ms no delays
Here 150ms but delays
back in 2007 we had only dsl and there were no delays in dota1 or any online games like world of warcraft.
I once read long time ago that all incoming and outgoing traffic of Pakistan is being monitored by a "Higher Power"
Which is the real reason behind slow internet. Browsing was way way faster when i had 1mbps then now on 50Mbps.
Now there is a start delay in everything. Also PTA is using something to further increase this affect.

So PTCL once again charged me "3618rs" instead of "3445" for 25Mbps same as last month xD.
175rs more than the price mentioned on their website.
Last month i tried complaining but it became a "Line noise issue" instead of "Wrong Bill"
I wonder how many other people they are charging this much extra
I also wonder why my complaint turned into something else, i lodged complain of "Bill is higher than mentioned on website"
Also PTCL stopped sending "Complaint ID number" to cell phone.
Are they even lodging a complaint at all?

Can't believe I'm saying this but Ptcl flashfiber is actually pretty good. Rivaling stormfiber with the consistency of advertised speed, reliability while having even less installation charges. Monthly price wise they are pretty much the same with flashfiber being slightly cheaper. As an ex stromfiber user, I'm pretty satisfied for now.

yes very high packet loses , ping is also high and VPN's are also barely working keeps disconnecting after a while or very slow browsing
Slow internet has direct relation with packet losses and timeouts. Even if you are getting 150ms in ping command with packet losses and time outs. But in game you will get 3 times more ping + delays + lags.
Everything becomes slow when packet losses happen. And they happen a alot in Pakistan.
Because everything we say or do is being monitored by AI and that generates reports for our Rulers.
And they take decisions based on people's reaction. Sad reality

any thoughts on the network outage througout the country last friday morning and then monday morning? do u really believe their reasons?
Given TW was working throughout, I'd say this was a technical outage, not some mala fide activity.
