so one question has been raised by a number of folks, who along with me, have already got to experience a small part of the game.
What if the game is "too realistic" and the gore is too violent that it prevents you from enjoying the game.
You will probably "see and feel" when you shiv an enemy, but this has happened now multiple times that I found the experience too brutal that I am questioning if its distasteful and stopping me from enjoying the progression.

Its like its all fun and games during Eid, until you have to actual slice the neck of the animals.
what what. you get to experience a real kill kinda without actually killing someone in real life so thats a win no ? i'd be imagining some people i wanna kill as ellie rips and burns some ppl :p yeah kill people in games yeah yes

ps: on a side not i guess i can't play this in my big lounge tv :( thats the downside as i believe it would have a bit too mature scenes and stuff. i can handle but my father sitting behind at his tab on youtube and tiktok might not.

lol @ Skill Up. Feel bad for those who follow him and his clueless views on games (or anything, really).
Yes whoever does not give the game a 10/10 is clueless. I guess he didn't like the "Tiger Woods" cameo in the game which most of the reviewers weren't allowed to talk about. Worst thing is its not even a cameo..

“Everything in The Last of Us II takes work. Every weapon reload, killing blow, and crafted item takes time and button presses. At times the game is painfully slow; even in the most action-packed sections you put in effort to move things forward. You’re paid for this work in a grim story and explicit violence. It can be exciting and beautiful, but mostly I just felt like shit.”

Didn't say whoever. I specifically singled out the Youtuber Skill Up as clueless.

Not being able to spoil certain plot points before release date is a common practice for reviews involving story-driven games. The critics that published reviews right after the embargo went up instead of waiting for the release date made a conscious decision to do so. Some of them will likely update the text portion, but the score will remain the same as it expresses their overall sentiment. I don't see the issue here.

It's fine if one feels that way but if it is offered as criticism, as at least one review I've seen did, then I can't agree. From the very start, ND had made it clear that they were going for unadulterated violence and concrete realism to capture the feel of a world with abject indifference and abandonment. This is precisely a world where there is no sense to suffering and no meaning to violence. This is what a player is supposed to feel about this world. If all violence is justified and explained, it simply defeats the purpose. One could see this premise and say that this game isn't for me - that is fine. But I don't find criticism of such violence compelling when the game is designed around this theme and no one said it would be otherwise. If it is distasteful, it is supposed to be. One cannot project one's expectations of justice in a normal world onto a world where there is no justice and no order. This isn't just fiction. When a world is ravaged like it is in TLoU II, things work differently and there's little point in hope and expectation. I'm thinking of the Nanking massacre of Chinese by the Japanese army. One of the events in that massacre was two Japanese soldiers betting each other as to who will behead most Chinese civilians with their sword in a given time. The winner 'scored' 100 or more. This actually happened in 1937 and, of course, things much worse than that have happened. What was the point of that violence? Nothing. It was war and conquest and nobody gave a shit about anything. It wasn't right, obviously, but this world was a (in)different world - one we aren't accustomed to, thankfully, but also one that makes us rightly uncomfortable when we are exposed to it. This is what ND intends to evoke with their gruesome display of violence and they've been quite open about this imo.
hmm...nice explanation. I do agree with you.

just playing devils advocate here, the flip side is, me as a consumer.
ND made a game for it to be consumed by people of this real world, at this specific time 2020.
I am not arguing if its right or not., but the question is ..if its distasteful, and should it be marked down for that or not?
and I guess its more of a phylosophical questions than actual one, since it got 96 on meta so most reviewers atleast didnt find it.
explaining it with a food analogy :p cause we love food;

We love hot and spicy nihari; Javed Nihari in Karachi prepared an awesome plate of double naali nihari for us.
We give this to finnish people who are not used to it, a reviewer like myself might give it 10/10,
however a person in Finland might give it 5/10 or something cause it burned their mouth.
So sensitivities and when/where its consumed play a crucial role in criticism of that media.

However all I have written above is mental-doodles and what I was thinking out loud, honestly I have read very little on the topic :D

wajhi no one here besides you has played the game yet, stop rubbing it in our faces :p

from kotaku

My playthrough of The Last of Us 2 felt terrible to experience. Over the course of my 27 hours with the game, it grew to the point of feeling nearly unbearable. This wasn’t because it asked me hard questions about my own capacity for harm or revenge, or pulled some Spec Ops: The Line-style moralizing about video game violence. Despite Druckmann’s promised “philosophical questions,” I never felt like the game asked me anything. Instead, it told me “brutality,” repeatedly and louder, until by the end I couldn’t hear what it was trying to say at all. Characters make hideous, irredeemable choices, over and over. Everybody suffers, physically and emotionally, in graphic detail. This is all intended to prove a point, but the only point I got from the game was simply to be required to stare at violence, and play through violence, and then do that again, and more, and again, and more.

I think we are all mature and old enough here to stop obsessing over the reviews at this point of our life. The thing I got from the reviews is that game is mechanically sound and with better AI than last time. Some are saying that violence is in bad taste. Rest of it is political and marketing commentary.

Lets all play the game first and then make our own decisions. There are people who hate Red Dead Redemption and that is even rated higher.

Definitely agree. I enjoyed RDR2 for several reasons, but gameplay was not one of them. The super-weighty movement and aiming hurt the experience for me, and I do feel the game was overrated to an extent. In the end, it didn't end up winning a majority of the GoTY awards in 2018, despite having a Metascore as high as 97.

It's funnier when you see franny's post history regarding TLoU 2 and the sudden "but let's all be civil now" shift after the reviews came out :laugh1:

Ek dum se itni civility aagai.

@Chandoo did you follow the Twitter war between Jason and some guy who compared TLoU2 to Schindler's List? Druckmann got involved as well lol
