Assalam o alekum Dear All Gamers,

Please take some time out to watch this video. It contains evidences of Blasphemy in Games we normally play.

I DO NOT Believe in Illuminati or other such propoganda but I am a Muslim and so it is my responsibility to Refute the games that Insult the world of ALLAH.

This message is first for me then for you all.

It is up to you to either continue with these games or to refute them.

It is up to you to either take this seriously or make the usual kiddy fun - this is common in all games bla bla.

Mods do not take this thread as Religious debating thread. This is merely informational.

You guys - those who want can also contribute.

Lastly if any one has evidence regarding battlefield please share. As one of my friend said there was but because I can not find any since 5-6 years I intend to assume their is no such evidence.
So please share if you have anything regarding this.

Just that some idiot seem to have made the connection between similarities.

Hey glorious I was expecting your reply.

As I said, I dont find every aspect of the video i.e. comparison etc to be that serious here but just the part where ALLAH's name has been written. Especially the Favela Map and subsequently in BO2

Actually as most of you people know Favela has been highly protested and it did lead to modification of the map and it made Activation apologize.

But the disturbing thing is that they repeated this again in the BO2 sewer. (01:59)

Can you confirm?

Assuming i'm tagged here, asking for my opinion ... here it is.

In the video, it's obvious from where designers have taken their inspiration. But i have a question from my muslim friends. Why do we think that these 'material' things hold any value in Islam? Kaaba is just a building. It's significance is NOT in it's structure, but in it's location and history. The designs of masjid/mosque doors are only for show, not because it has of it's significance in Islam. Design of Quran's cover has no significance in Islam, but it's text and spirit of it. So I personally believe that we, The Muslims, just love to 'get offended' over such stuff, even when it's expected from the non-believers.

Of course if anyone thinks it's going against their belief, stop playing it. Simple. In my opinion, these are petty things. Some PROBABLY intentional, just to mess with the Muslim community. It's so easy to 'enrage' a Muslim community, by doing petty stuff like this, but holding a drawing contest, making shoes with arabic names etc. I'd say take a chill pill and focus on your own faith. Let them do whatever they want because it's expected from them anyway.

Indeed you have been mentioned for an opinion. Your opinion is similar to mine.
The only thing I need you to concentrate is the COD BO2 at 2:00 in the video.

As I said Activation apologized and removed Favela from circulation but now this again..
I am not much concerned about the other part of this video and neither about Illuminati etc but bro the Supreme name is in the Frame cover of a picture hanging in the Toilet and then Subsequently in the Gutter again in BO2 GOD forbid.. That's not a petty issue.

The only reason I posted this Video was BO2 video which I saw for the first time as I was randomly surfing youtube.

Just curious, what do you propose your fellow Pakgamers do in this scenario?

I'd propose if you grow up one day to be a game developer and have your own studio and you are launching games and shit. Try to release games which represent the Muslims in a better more positive light. Cuz Western people have the wrong concept and they always wrongly portray us, so why not we correct them a little.

Even if you don't own the game you are launching but if you are working big-time in a company somewhere like NaNoW is currently, I'd say if you see this sort of shit going on, just man up and say your mind. Whether they take it off or not is a different matter, atleast you'd have tried. Maybe the westerners aren't doing this on purpose and they just have no knowledge about us or maybe they are doing this on purpose. Either way if we wanna be useful to our people it's our (the muslims in this field) job to do something about it.

Every one has their own analogies and priorities. It is not my place to propose. I for one in this scenario would refrain from playing COD Franchise again if 02:00 in the Video holds true.
Nevertheless I am asking for opinions of veterans over this particular instance and not dictating mine. This is a discussion and not a debate.

Nearly all of us have our biases. I mean people in the east also have a skewed understanding of the west. This is true of everyone. Also, I don't think this is intentioanl blasphemy. Nor it is meant as such. For instance, the Christian cross is used in many different ways in games, from war symbols to fanatics portrayed in games, to horror atmosphere making a great use of it, yet gamers in the east would hardly blink an eye on it because it is culturally irrelevant to them. The same happens in the west as well. The symbology is used primarily to create a sense of association, not to demean people or religions.

1. Its a foreign company. - So they dont know any better, Re-using of assets in game design is pretty common to save time and money.
2. You have like what, Allah's name in VARIOUS languages. - But people prefer to use the arabic one for some reason to feel closer because Quran is in Arabic.
3. I just find it stupid, that how people just want to try so hard as to zoom in the heavily pixalated image, to try and pin the blame on the company for offending them.
It just feels to me is that, They want to be offended.

As for BO2.
I haven't played that game.
So, I can't comment on that.

But, from the normal person prespective.

What ever your opinion is I hope you don't think there's some anti Muslim agenda by these companies or something.... about that holy words written in the sewer...was that map set in middle east or similar location? Because that make sense since devs love to recycle textures specially in multiplayer maps where map design is given priority over texturing/assets placement. I guess the devs are just oblivious of this "grave mistake" they committed. Personally if you ask me, I couldn't care less and believe God's integrity won't be harmed by his name written somewhere on a texture in a virtual sewer. That being said, I respect your opinion and the ability to encourage healthy discussion...PG is kinda dying these days...so yea

The same happens in the west as well. The symbology is used primarily to create a sense of association, not to demean people or religions.
Christian cross is used in wars to denote those crusaders which did actually wear it. So if you are portraying those people nothing wrong with it. We've seen it used in horror movies for exorcism and I think the Christians actually believe in exorcism. Have you ever seen the statue of Jesus Christ in a sewer or on the gateway to hell? No that'd count as a disrespect. Surely any sane person won't do that. So why are you disrespecting Islam by showing Quranic verses in toilets and using our God's name and the cloth of Kaaba on the gateway to Hell or demon world whatever that is?

You are free to use symbology to create a sense of association but keep in mind "with what" are you associating the symbol? Nobody would like to see their religion's statues and symbols in a sewer or on the gateway to demon world. But I've only found cases like these with Islam. Maybe it's an alluring religion but the only thing I ask is have a thorough understanding before using these symbols.

Nearly all of us have our biases. I mean people in the east also have a skewed understanding of the west. The symbology is used primarily to create a sense of association, not to demean people or religions.
True but there is a difference between a skewed understanding of the people in general and a skewed understanding of their religion. If you have a skewed understanding of others' religion I'd say better shut up and don't do anything related to it unless you really know what you are doing. That's it. There have been numerous cases like these such as COD's favela map where the Quranic verse was written in the toilet.

And I don't know if it's really true but I've read it was a pure Quranic verse written on that frame of the picture in the toilet. How can you have so much Abuses will lead to ban time as a Non-Muslim, to find a quranic verse and use it as a texture of a picture frame inside a "toilet" ? Surely you can portray a mosque or museum in a game and put it there but in a toilet I'd say that's wrong. I might be wrong here and maybe it really wasn't intentional as @iampasha stated, maybe they put a dozen of those frames everywhere around the map and due to lack of knowledge they didn't give it much thought when putting it in the toilet as well but that's clearly my Point. "When you are dealing with someone else's religion, take extra care don't just skim through like it doesn't matter. Be a proper human being and respect and get knowledge about other's religion before doing such things."

Anyways I don't get butthurt over things like these but what's wrong is wrong. You can't deny that. I'm not against using Islamic things and history in video games, instead I'd encourage other developers to do it but do so after getting proper knowledge. I don't care whether it's intentional or not but the least you can do is if you are a game developer or working for some company, raise a voice if you are working with these people and make them understand it's quite wrong to do this. That's what I'm asking, nothing more.

Edit:- Found a nice article where Muslims in the Video Game industry did a panel discussing this topic
https://venturebeat.com/2016/03/28/how-the-west-fails-to-represent-muslims-correctly-in-video-games/

I particularly like the points such as "Why do the Muslims have to be represented by faith and not by nationality. Just because someone has a beard and is Arab-looking doesn't necessarily mean he is a Muslim." Most COD games portray villains as Muslim terrorists but wouldn't it be better if you researched on this topic and find that people like these aren't Muslims even if they claim to do so. Adding some lines spoken by an American MC where he discusses on this morality topic against the Muslim terrorists while fighting and rejects him being a Muslim would surely give a more philosophical flavor to the game while providing a flexible and non-rigid view of the Muslims as well.

Games nowadays are made differently from what I understand, assets are made and then propagated throughout the game world. I can see how that would end up with a verse in a gutter or toilet etc. Ofcourse it doesn't make sense to hang such religous symbology in places like these but that is what I think normally happens. These things ought to be checked in QC but a lack of understanding or just rushed QC can also end up with these things and a whole lot of bugs, which normally each game has these days. I don't see any intention in it to target Muslims in particular. No AAA game developer can simply afford the financial hit of a boycott - even if they had that hatred towards a particular group.

Look at Farcry 5, as an example of what I said above, that game clearly associates religious verses from the Bible and terminology throughout the game tattoed on the antagonist's body, arms and is used to promote violence, something the Christian faith (like all faiths) don't promote. But again, that is intentional use of Christian imagery because that theme exists in the western culture and people have had done that in real life as well. But just because some redneck Christians are loonies I don't think that all Christians are portrayed as such. The reality is the west sees partially, the middle east and other countries as Muslims because some of the biggest names emphasize their Muslimness, and partially because of ignorance.

I think that VentureBeat article is interesting. Discussion like these should happen more often.

Exactly that's why i wrote "When you are dealing with someone else's religion, take extra care don't just skim through like it doesn't matter. Be a proper human being and respect and get knowledge about other's religion before doing such things." Look at it from a commoner's perspective who doesn't know of instancing and how assets work. I can understand it was a mistake, they can't. But the main problem here isn't who is getting butthurt. The main problem is they think of someone else religion very lightly.

The main thing here is which the article also talks about is diversity. Of all the games that had Christian influences few would go to this extreme to show a Christian fanatic with verses on his body. But when it comes to Muslims they are almost always shown as the villains, terrorists and that's the problem

Look at it this way, when the game portrays a Christian fanatic, people know subconsciously that this is a bad guy. They mostly don't think Christianity is bad. When games portray American villains, people think of them as bad guys not "American population is bad".

On the other hand if there was a Muslim in it's place with quranic verses about Jihad written over his arms or something or portrayed as a terrorist, people think "Islam is bad". This has just seeped into people's minds. Western educated game developers and higher ups should understand this topic and if they want to portray a Muslim as terrorist they should try to portray the idea that not all Muslims are like this. A short discussion on this moral issue with the theme being guys like these are misled would give the people a more positive view of us but they don't do this because they don't care. You never see a game about a good guy being a Muslim and shooting bad White American people. The game would never get released imo. Here is an example,

Khan mentioned the aborted game Six Days In Fallujah, which Konami shelved after a public outcry. Give the established facts of that battle, in which US forces employed the banned chemical weapon white phosphorous, it was a rare chance for the other side of the conventional narrative to be revealed. Ultimately, though, it was a chance that disappeared.
So basically you can release us Muslims as terrorists but when someone releases a game portraying about American invasion on Iraq, you get butthurt? Then you say we are the ones to get butthurt on little things?

I understand and largely agree with you. However, I do think it is our responsibility to portray ourselves and our side of the story. They are under no obligation to respect or oblige us in any way. They can show whatever they like because it's their game. If we want more positive Muslim roles in video game. We should probably make them ourselves.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.

With how great cod warzone has translated onto mobile. Mainstream Consoles have lost its value even further. Maybe console gaming was associated with TVs and how TV is not the primary source of media consumption anymore, consoles will lose its 200 million core audiences even further.
