[h=1]God of War’s cloth map hides an elaborate puzzle[/h]

[h=2]The game’s physical map hides an in-game secret[/h]

God of War players have solved one of the game’s most dense, well-hidden puzzles — one that only owners of the physical special edition could even discover in the first place. Deciphering a set of directions found on the Stone Mason Edition’s cloth map led the community to find a reward they never would have been able to, had one player not caught on to the hints hidden in plain sight.
Earlier today, a Reddit user took to the God of War forum with a request. YouTuber BRKsEDU suggested that the real-life cloth map included with their hard copy of the game wasn’t just decorative — it had text on it, written in runes that they had translated into English.
Kratos’ son Atreus does mention in the game that these runes can be translated; they’re from the proto-Norse runic alphabet, Eldar Futhark, as other players have already found out. That’s how BRKsEDU kickstarted what became a longer quest in transcribing the rest of the runes dotting the edges of the cloth map.
[Warning: There are story spoilers for God of War below.]
The biggest block of text refers to the dwarves Brok and Sindri, who pop up around the map in-game to sell Kratos items. Although the two are brothers, they are never seen together; according to the cloth map, that’s because they had a huge falling out.
This is what the runic inscription on the left-hand side of the map says:
The brilliant blacksmiths Brok and Sindri travelled all around the lands of Midgard to create this great map for the giantess Faye a mysterious treasure was found at the space between them at the conclusion of their journey unfortunately for the brothers the treasure’s location was instantly forgotten Brok retraced his steps and blamed Sindri for losing the treasure Sindri retraced his own steps but clearly knew it was Brok’s fault they could not find it the treasure was never found and neither brother has spoken to the other either since

An annotated version of the cloth map, included with the God of War collector’s edition. RedditReddit’s call for help led to players making some impressive discoveries. First, they deduced the paths of both Brok and Sindri, figuring out where they must have traveled — and thus, finding the space between them. That ends up being on either side of Muspelheim Tower, which sits below the giant Tyr’s Temple.
Players then followed the orders laid out at the top of the cloth map, also written in runes. They are as follows:
To Reveal the great treasure stand inside the golden circle and look straight ahead to tyrs temple now look to the left brazier look back to tyrs temple look to the right brazier and back to left brazier
Having just looked to the left brazier now look back straight ahead to tyrs temple again now look down to the floor then look up to the right brazier and then back to the left brazier and finally look to tyrs temple to reveal the forgotten treasure
That golden circle, based on where Brok and Sindri end up, is on Muspelheim Tower. Players must use the camera to quickly look in the aforementioned directions in order to unlock that forgotten treasure.
After just a few hours of trial and error, and teamwork, players unlocked their reward: a legendary axe pommel called the Forbidden Grip of the Ages. The relic increases all of Kratos’ stats and adds a concussive wave to the end of his R1 combo.

Whew. It sounds like a lot, but most of the legwork is done; even if you don’t have that actual cloth map, you should be able to go ahead and grab that treasure. But it’s amazing to think that all of that effort only took a few hours and a lot of perseverance — and translation skills.

Man this game deserves every bit of praise it is getting. The games ending sequence is goose bumps inducing.

^ Man I haven't been able to beat that Abuses will lead to ban. I guess I become to extatic at the fight and try to spam Atreus and rush in blindly. Going by that video, slow and steady seems to be the way to go.

Also what's that thing you've got which is sort of like Helios's head in GOW3 ? I don't think I have that talisman.

GameCritics - 7.5

Thanks to these detours from the objective, God of War is just too damn long. It outlives its visual splendor, its enemy variety, and the time it takes for players to fall into a comfortable groove with the combat. Worse yet, it lays the groundwork for fascinating character arcs only to settle for a single, underwhelming twist and the promise of a new trilogy. I enjoyed the game, but there’s nothing so groundbreaking about it as to justify all of the wheel-spinning it does.

It’s ironic that a story about the value of discipline and restraint would feel like it needs more time in the editing room, but that’s the new God of War – promising but aimless. I like the new Kratos, but I hope his next adventure is more focused than this, and I pray that it actually gives him something interesting to do.
@Chandoo: I might have written this one though :p

PakGamers review score is 10/10, someone submit it to Metacritic :p
There is always going to be someone who doesnt like a particular game even if it is universally acclaimed.

But the reviewer still is a jackass. 7.5, really ?????

This game is just on another level. Writing, Sound Design, Combat, graphics, the no cut direction almost everything about the game is so well thought of that it blows your mind. If i ever have to compile my top 5 games of all time, God of War is going to be in that list with TLOU and Witcher 3.

Yeah, you have to wait for an opening before you attack. It's easy once you know her attack pattern.

Also what's that thing you've got which is sort of like Helios's head in GOW3 ? I don't think I have that talisman.
That's the Hel's touch runic attack. It's pretty useful for staggering up-close enemies.

You guys should be happy with that 7.5/10.

Their second opinion by another reviewer is a 6.5/10 : God Of War (2018) Second Opinion – GameCritics.com lol
holy shit this is the most idiotic review, I have ever seen...I have never facepalmed a review harder, it is so bad, its comical :

In terms of production, the graphics are absolutely amazing. The first time I saw Kratos in motion, I actually gasped. His character model is on a whole new level, and it’s stunning. The sound is also strong, and when looking at screenshots, the world seems to be a picturesque, majestic place.
but let me give it a 6.5

The idea of a father and son setting off on a journey to spread the ashes of the woman in their life is a great starting point, but the campaign quickly devolves into
all sorts of fetchquests, item hunts and miscellaneous puzzles and barriers to overcome

So..basically what makes a game..A GAME.

moving on

God of War‘s combat is good when the Leviathan Axe is being thrown and recalled, when Kratos is dodging, when Atreus is slinging his surprisingly-powerful arrows, and when things are happening at a rapid pace, but the variety of enemies is incredibly disappointing......
Combat is "good"...where as every game dev I work with (and people who hadnt played any GOW game ever) agreed on how fantastic combat is,

it seems like the devs were trying to address this blandness by including all sorts of skills, abilities, power-ups, armors to upgrade, enchantments to equip, and tons and tons and tons and
tonsof doodads to collect. It’s overkill, though
but somehow bland..hahaha...this is so awesome - having multiple RPG elements and game economy, makes a game bad because its too much ?

Is he ....stupid ? He labels a moderate amount of RPG elements, which most gamers agree as ADDs value to the game, as overkill and takes marks away from it.

In the whole review, he doesn't at all talk about the animation, about the tech, one single line about audio, no mention of lighting and vfx, no mention of pacing,
no mention or description of gameplay, weapons or "game modes", no details on customization, no talk of camera work, no mention of performance...basically its two lines of I think its too long and I didnt like the story..so let me make some BS to try and fail, and badly justify this rating..

I give this review a 1/10.

Purposefully holding back their review until all other media outlets have given out theirs to maximize click bait. Sure. I think that review is genuine [/s]
Or venting out their anger for not getting a review copy from Sony :D

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.
