Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD coming to PC and consoles in 2019

Sega confirms new Monkey Ball game for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One

Sega’s new Super Monkey Ball game for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One isn’t really an all-new game, but a remake of a previous title, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. Sega announced the new title, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, in a press release on Tuesday. It will come to consoles on Oct. 29, with a Steam release planned for “winter 2019.”
The original Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz was developed exclusively for Wii and used the Wii Remote’s motion controls. The game featured 100 levels, eight boss battles (a series first), 50 minigames, and a party tournament mode where players could compete in a variety of minigames. Banana Blitz received mixed-to-positive reviews at the time.
The HD remake will offer “updated graphics, optimized control schemes for each platform, a brand-new mini-game Decathalon mode where you complete a set of 10 mini-games in a row, and online leaderboards,” Sega said in a release.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will cost $39.99 on console. PC pricing was not announced.
Update: This story has been updated with official information from Sega of America.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz remaster ditches motion controls

Sega says Banana Blitz HD will have ‘tightened analog controls’ optimized for each platform

Sega’s HD remaster of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz — originally released for Wii in 2006 — will do away with the motion control of the original in favor of “tightened analog controls” that have been optimized for each platform, Sega said in a press release today.
When Banana Blitz was released for Wii, the game was criticized for its reliance on motion controls via the Wii Remote, giving the already challenging Super Monkey Ball gameplay an even more difficult learning curve.
New gameplay footage of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD released on Thursday shows how the game will look on modern platforms. If you missed the game on Wii, Banana Blitzoffers 100 single-player stages, 10 multiplayer minigames, and boss battles. The HD re-release also comes with online leaderboards for single-player Time Attack mode and the new Minigame Decathalon Score Attack mode.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Oct. 29. A Windows PC release is expected to hit Steam sometime during winter 2019.
