Konami announces anniversary collections for Castlevania, Contra, and arcade classics

Trio of old-school Konami classics coming to console and PC soon

Konami will release three Anniversary Collection compilations in 2019 based on the company’s Castlevania franchise, Contra franchise, and its early arcade games. The Konami Anniversary Collections are timed with the company’s 50th anniversary, and will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC via Steam, and Xbox One.
The first Anniversary Collection will compile eight of the company’s arcade games from the 1980s. Konami Anniversary Collection: Arcade Classics will be released digitally on April 18 for $19.99 and will include the following titles:

      • Haunted Castle
      • A-Jax (aka Typhoon)
      • Gradius
      • Gradius 2
      • Life Force
      • Thunder Cross
      • Scramble
      • TwinBee

Konami will follow its Arcade Classics release with the Castlevania: Anniversary Collectionin “early summer.” It too will include eight titles, four of which have been announced:Castlevania (NES), Castlevania 2: Belmont’s Revenge (Game Boy), Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse (NES), and Super Castlevania 4 (Super NES).
Also coming in early summer is the Contra: Anniversary Collection. Confirmed for the eight-game collection so far are Contra (arcade), Super Contra (arcade), Super C (NES), andContra 3: The Alien Wars (Super NES).
Konami still has plenty of classic Castlevania and Contra games to choose from that haven’t been confirmed, such as Castlevania: Bloodlines and Contra: Hard Corps. Presumably, games like those and variations like Vampire Killer for the MSX2, will round out the unannounced games.
Each Anniversary Collection will include a digital book that includes information like “interviews with the development staff, behind-the-scenes insights, and sketches and design documents never before revealed to the public,” according to Konami’s website.

Konami reveals full Castlevania Anniversary Collection lineup

Simon Belmont, John Morris, and even Kid Dracula join the collection

Konami announced the full eight-game lineup for its upcoming Castlevania Anniversary Collection on Thursday, confirming the inclusion of classic games like Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest and one important rarity in Kid Dracula.
Back in March, Konami announced four of the titles included in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection: the original Castlevania (NES), Castlevania 2: Belmont’s Revenge(Game Boy), Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse (NES), and Super Castlevania 4 (Super NES).
Rounding out the collection will be Castlevania The Adventure (Game Boy), Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest (NES), Castlevania Bloodlines (Sega Genesis), and Kid Dracula (Famicom). The last game on that list received a Game Boy remake/sequel in North America, but the original Kid Dracula (aka Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula-kun) was only released on Famicom in Japan.
Castlevania Anniversary Collection will be released on May 16 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC via Steam, and Xbox One. The collection is priced at $19.99.
Konami also released its Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection today. It includes one Castlevania spinoff, the 1988 game Haunted Castle, as well as A-JAX, Nemesis, Vulcan Venture, Salamander, Thunder Cross, Scramble, and TwinBee. It’s available through the Nintendo Switch eShop, PlayStation Store, Steam, and Xbox Games Store for $19.99.

Every region’s version of all the Contra games bundled together

Contra: Anniversary Collection, the 10-game collection of all the Contra games that Konami announced back in March, is available later today on the Nintendo eShop.
The anthology includes Contra in three forms — arcade, NES and Famicom — Super Contra, Super C, and Operation C; Contra 3: The Alien Warsand Contra: Hard Corpsfrom the 16-bit era; and even Probotector and Super Probotector: Alien Rebels.
The Probotector games were released in Europe and Australia only. In them, heroes Lance Bean and Bill Rizer were swapped for the robotic soldiers RD-008 and RC-011. Probotector is based on Contra: Hard Corps, while Super Probotector: Alien Rebels is based on Contra 3: The Alien Wars.
Japanese versions of all these games will be released later via title update, IGN reported back in May. The series is also available for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
The Contra: Anniversary Collection also includes a digital book with interviews with developers, concept art and design documents from the series’ history.
The anthology joins Konami Anniversary Collection: Arcade Classics and Castlevania: Anniversary Collection as Konami plumbs its back catalog for products to release this year.
