Crytek Showcases Neon Noir, a non-proprietary Ray Tracing solution for CryEngine

Technology Reveal: Real-Time Ray Traced Reflections achieved with CRYENGINE. All scenes are rendered in real-time in-editor on an AMD Vega 56 GPU. Reflections are achieved with the new experimental ray tracing feature in CRYENGINE 5 - no SSR.

Neon Noir was developed on a bespoke version of CRYENGINE 5.5., and the experimental ray tracing feature based on CRYENGINE’s Total Illumination used to create the demo is both API and hardware agnostic, enabling ray tracing to run on most mainstream, contemporary AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. However, the future integration of this new CRYENGINE technology will be optimized to benefit from performance enhancements delivered by the latest generation of graphics cards and supported APIs like Vulkan and DX12.

Being a fan of Crytek and ray tracing, @Necrokiller might find this interesting :P

I would love to see a Ray Traced Crysis sequel blowing up PCs and giving 30FPS with RTX 2080Ti in SLI at 4k. Just saying

Why not tho? It's not so unbelievable since it's running only reflections not full global illumination like metro Exodus

Sorry to tell you but I don't find it interesting because CryEngine isn't used now in AA/AAA gaming just like Unity and they're not the first to do it. Good for them though that they continue to push their engine to new heights.

However, I do find it interesting that it didn't even take 1 week before ray-tracing was being dismissed by the same console peeps who are suddenly enthusiastic about the prospects of ray-tracing on "AMD powered" consoles.

Performance concerns aside, there's no reason to believe that an engine supporting ray-traced reflections can't support ray-traced lighting.

Another metric for gauging enthusiasm, the actual news doesn't even use words like "non-proprietary" used in the thread title here.

      https://www.cryengine.com/news/cryte...-for-cryengine

      Such excitement, much based-Crytek

I look forward to you utilising this non-proprietary solution [emoji14]
