Well performance out of the box was pretty good, although there were some minor bugs with the first build, and it seemed like it needed some polishing. They did rush the release, so it's understandable. However, very soon after, one OTA was pushed, which was just a security patch.

Then another update came, with some camera improvements and a different kernel (earlier builds were using the same kernel). This build was never released outside of Europe, until about 2 days ago. Got released to UAE, PAK, AFG, and some other regions.

I couldn't wait so I had downloaded the entire firmware and flashed it earlier. No issues whatsoever, not with performance or with battery life.

TL;DR, it was a bit weird at release, but they fixed it and it's all good now.
My colleagues recently updated his Note 9 on the latest OTA, whatever it was ... so obviously the 'fresh update' would make the phone run smoother (due to cleared cache). But i occasionally see him complaining about the slight mili second of lag in the most basic of the apps (like, unlocking from lock screen, or starting to type an SMS). He's coming from an iPhone so it's understandable but godamn if we are still living in that same laggy era. I mean, my OP3 has been laggy, very laggy recently but the stroage is basically 80% full so i understand why it's acting the way it's acting. But any latest 2018 phone should NOT suffer from this sh*t. Like, Seriously. Just shouldn't. (He has the 512GB version, though - and he's not the only one i'm seeing complaining about the slight lags).

Anyway, i feel as if Samsung may have used a slower NAND to accomodate for 'larger' capacity. I don't know, just a hunch ... considering it's Samsung we're talking about.

I'm currently waiting for the V40's release, and hopefully will see if i want to jump or no.

Let me know if you face some lags in near future with your Note 9. My decision to get Note 9 is on hold because of this.

Honestly I feel as if some people confuse lags with shitty animations, which is an issue on Samsung. The default animations suck ass and they make using the phone a frustrating task.

The first thing I do whenever I get any Android phone, but especially a Samsung one, is reduce all animation scales to 0.5x. Everything feels so natural, as if it should be set to 0.5 out of the box.

Samsung Experience has changed, and is completely different from TouchWiz, but the one thing they didn't change is their clunky and slow animations. Even something as simple as hitting the back button while in a sub-menu in settings will leave you thinking "Why the fuck did I pay $1000 for this shit?".
Hopefully Samsung's twist on Android 9.0 should change animations considering its bringing a ton of major UI changes.

I remember the brief period that I did have an iPhone as my daily driver, the one thing I really liked was the consistency and speed of the animations. I had no reason to mess with them or even turn them off, because I liked them. I switched back to an S7 edge immediately after and it was strange going back to it, so I can see where your friend thinks the phone is lagging.

Lastly, from what I've heard, the flash memory in the 512/8 variant is faster than the 128/6 model.

I am using 1+6 and this thing flies I have never experienced any lags what so ever I am glad I picked it over galaxy s9. The only messed up part about using this phone over the iPhone for me is when I have to select and copy a large amount oof text on screen that's where this phone sucks and 3D touch on the iPhone was miles ahead of anything for this task alone....since i am in China at the moment I have to copy large amounts of Chinese text to translate quite often so its a pain

I have S9+ 256Gb, haven't used note 9 yet. Any considerable difference in S9+ and Note9 ? I think from hardware point its almost same. Or Note9 is just a s9+ with S Pen ?

You won't feel a difference in performance, since both have 6 GB RAM.

Most things are the same, including the camera.

However, there are other small things with this phone that I appreciate a lot.

The curves on the display have always been more subtle on the Note series, it's obviously not completely flat, but it's not the same as the S9+.
I find this phone much easier and more comfortable to hold without a case, compared to the S9, and because of this, I make fewer accidental touches on the display.

Also, the battery life is insanely good, I find it difficult to get it below 50% on most days.

You will be pretty much wasting money moving from a S9+ to a Note 9. Performance is pretty much same while price difference will be a lot.

People, in General, should really consider saving their money but NOT upgrading their devices every year. Better to keep your devices until they expire, or slow down enough to justify a (hopefully radical) upgrade.

Absolutely right brother, i upgraded from LG G3 after 3+ years of use to S9+. Reason to upgrade was my G3 motherboard got faulty, else i loved its performance a lot.
Will upgrade from S9+ to any other phone when it fails

Note 9 kit (just phone, no accessories) can already be had for 90k.

OnePlus 6 on the other hand is for around 70 ish.
