Rainbow Six Siege’s new map is a glass kill house inside a stadium

Stadium, a high-tech training facility, gets fans ready for The Six Invitational in February

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege players will get a new map and battle pass, with loot spread out over the next five weeks, in anticipation of The Six Invitational, the game’s premier esports tournament. It’s called the Road to SI 2020, and it starts today, and runs until Feb. 16.
The new map is called Stadium; it was teased yesterday with the above, lore-based cinematic. Stadium is the ruins of a modern coliseum in Greece, cleaned up and set up as a training/proving grounds for the Operators. Set up on the infield is a kill house stocked with rooms and other callbacks to other maps in the Rainbow Six Siege lineup. “This new map uses bulletproof glass material to create new situations,” the map’s description states.
The Stadium gives players access to all of the game’s Operators, even those they haven’t unlocked. Unranked is a Bomb game type where both teams are trying to find the other’s detonator, bring it back to their base, and disarm it.
But evidently it will also be where the Six Invitational takes place five weeks from now. The season-ending Six Invitational 2020 will bring 16 top teams to Ubisoft Montreal to compete for a large, cash prize pool. Last that pool was $2 million, raising the stakes for competitive play. The Six Invitational 2020 begins Feb. 7. and runs for a week.
Commemorating that is a free Six Invitational MPX skin for all players. It’s called the “S.I. Club Reward” and can be found in the Rewards section of the Ubisoft Club. That will be also be available until Feb. 16.
A Battle Pass accompanying the event will feature 50 rewards spread over 35 tiers, earn by completing challenges. Or the pass can be bought outright for for 840 R6 Credits. The premium track will deliver uniforms, R6 Credits, and Renown boosters in addition to the headgears, weapon skins, weapon charms, and Alpha Packs on the free track. The Road to SI 2020 also provides a 25% boost for ranked and unranked playlists, which increases to 30% for Year 4 Pass holders.
Much more is expected of Rainbow Six Siege over the next month, as the Six Invitational also serves as a preview of things to come for the game’s next year of content. Yesterday, a Redditor discovered, and posted, assets from the latest 4.2 patch that hint at what may be coming, including a year-long Battle Pass and six new operators.

One of Rainbow Six Siege’s first maps gets an overhaul in the new season

‘Boregon’ no more; Ubisoft Montreal remodels the survivalist compound

      The

Oregon, one of the maps that launched with Rainbow Six Siege in December 2015, will be getting a facelift when Year 5, Season 1 launches. Ubisoft Montreal developers showcased the changes at today’s Six Invitational, the world championship tournament for Siege. There’s also a good breakdown of what the changes involve at 5:01 of this video.
Nicholas Jolicoeur, a level designer, walked Six Invitational attendees through the new floorplan, pointing out where the old map had gone stale and what he has done to freshen that up. “After all this time, the players have kind of figured it out,” he acknowledged. It’s especially important to change the map considering its frequency of use in esports.

Ubisoft Montreal/UbisoftOregon is set in a survivalist compound in the Pacific Northwest, hence its name. Its main building has three levels, and there’s also a small office tower with which most hardcore Siege players are back-of-the-hand familiar. In the update, an expanded freezer section will be added to the basement, giving Attackers a new wall to break through and a new route to the objective.
The Tower section will no longer house the objective, because that had broken down to “an easy three-step win for the Attackers,” Jolicoeur said. “Pop in some smoke, send Montagne, send the defuser right after him, back up, and profit. It’s not that easy, but it’s not that interesting either.” The objective has now moved to the meeting room or the kitchen. A new hallway connects those two areas, making it a shared objective for both sides. The larger tower also has a new route that bypasses the meeting room on the way into the building.

Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Void Edge, the first season of the game’s fifth year, does not yet have a launch date. Its two newest operators, Oryx and Iana, will be available on public test servers beginning Monday. There will be a Year 5 panel tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. EST, during which more details are expected, as the Six Invitational winds to a conclusion

Rainbow Six Siege PS4 or Xbox One disc will work on PS5 or Xbox Series X

Cross-generation play should include cross-generation progression, too

Rainbow Six Siege will support cross-generation matchmaking when the next-generation consoles launch this holiday season, Ubisoft announced. That means that PlayStation 4 owners can participate with PlayStation 5 users, Xbox One and Xbox Series X players may play together, and no one has to buy a second copy of the game.
“The game will be backwards compatible, meaning that you can take your disc of Rainbow Six Siege on PS4 and put it in your PS5, or take your Xbox One disc and put it in your Xbox Series X,” said Leroy Athanasoff, the game’s creative director, in a Ubisoft blog post on Thursday.
“What we know for sure is that we don’t want to break our community, to split our community, and we don’t want to make you buy another Rainbow 6 Siege at full price,” he added.
Windows Central reported back in February that Rainbow Six Siege’s developers hoped to bring cross-platform progression to the game, too. That is, that someone’s career, stats, and unlocks would carry from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, for example. But “I don’t think there will ever be console cross-play with PC,” Athanasoff told Windows Central.
For the coming year, Athanasoff said players will notice a new reputation system in Siege that will “build a kind of memory,” with the intent of thwarting and sanctioning toxic behavior. Toxic behavior, Athanasoff said, is more than just abusive dialogue in party chat. “You are going to decrease your score by doing mean and toxic actions,” he said.
But it’s not dependent on other players tattling on transgressors (a feature that could itself be exploited in a toxic way). “There is no way for people to impact your behavior score by avoiding or reporting you,” Athanasoff said.
“We will give you warnings, give you notifications, so you know,” he added. “I am not too much into punishment and stuff like that; I’m more into prevention and incentivizing to give you opportunity, feedback and notifications to do good stuff.”
Rainbow Six Siege launched in 2015, and is now in the fifth year and first season of its content cycle — Operation Void Edge, which introduced two new playable characters to a cast of more than 50.
