Arrowverse Crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths Casts Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne

Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman in animation and video games, has been cast as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming CW Arrowverse crossover
Crisis on Infinite Earths. Despite the best efforts of Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, and George Clooney, many fans continue to view Conroy as the greatest Batman of all time. To those unfamiliar with the voice actor, Conroy first played Bruce Wayne and his alter ego in 1992's Batman: The Animated Series. Conroy would reprise the role for many animated projects, as well as video games likeMortal Kombat vs DC Universe, Injustice, and - most importantly - the Batman: Arkham series by Rocksteady.

Although Conroy has never played the Caped Crusader in live-action, he's still universally acclaimed for his performance as the legendary nocturnal hero, and for good reason. Thanks to his confident mix of grim determination, righteous sense of justice, and a touch of psychotic terror, entire generations of fans view
Conroy's performance as the definitive version of the Dark Knight.

      As
IGNreports, in a surprise announcement during the TCA summer press tour, it was announced that Conroy would be part of the crossover. His role will take the form of "a special guest appearance as Bruce Wayne from the future." The phrase "special guest appearance," combined with the very premise ofCrisis on Infinite Earths, means Conroy's role could be anything. It's possible he'll be playing a live-action version of Bruce Wayne, though it may potentially be a voice-only role. Perhaps he's playing the older version of Earth-1's Batman, or any number of alternate universe equivalents. It's even possible he could be returning as the same version of Batman he helped create nearly thirty years ago.

The original comic book version of Crisis on Infinite Earths saw the combined multiverse of DC characters teaming up to battle the Anti-Monitor. In translating this story into live action, the CW network is taking a similar approach, featuring the stars of all of its superhero shows: Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl,Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. Even the heroes from Black Lightning, who've yet to crossover with other CW shows, will take part in the epic event.
Brandon Routh, who starred in 2006's Superman Returns before appearing as Ray Palmer/The Atom in Legends of Tomorrow, will reprise his role as the Man of Steel in the crossover. Even Burt Ward has been cast in the five-part event, though it's unknown if he'll play the same version of Robin he originated in the1960s TV series, or a different character altogether.

The appearance of Kevin Conroy as some version of Batman is reason enough to be excited, and it's obvious that Crisis on Infinite Earths is shaping up to be the most ambitious superhero crossover ever attempted on television. In fact, the combined running times of all five episodes equals about 200 minutes, or even longer than
Avengers: Endgame. One thing's for sure: by the time the dust settles on this particular crisis, "worlds will live, worlds will die, and nothing will ever be the same."

Crisis on Infinite Earths will begin on The CW on December 8, 9, and 10, before concluding on January 14.

Arrow Season 8 Includes Katana, Roy Harper Won't Be Series Regular

Arrow season 8 will mark the return of Katana, while Roy Harper will be conspicuously absent. Premiering in 2012, Arrow followed the journey of Oliver Queen as he returned following a mysterious five-year absence and embarked on a continued quest to save his city. The action-packed show quickly gained a passionate following and spawned what has come to be known as theArrowverse. Earlier in the year, however, it was announced that season 8 would be the last.
The plot of season 8 is being kept firmly under wraps, though it's known that the season will tie firmly into the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Airing over five hours, Arrow will team with the heroes of The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and even Batwoman in order to halt the multiverse-destroying machinations of The Anti-Monitor. Each of the aforementioned shows featured teases what many expect will be an Avengers: Endgame-level event. The most notable of the teases, however, occurred in Arrow, with Oliver Queen having to leave his family and honor his end of a bargain struck with The Monitor.

      According to
EW, season 8 will also see Oliver once again cross paths with Tatsu Yamashiro (aka Katana). Played by Rila Fukushima, Arrow's version of Katana first debuted in season 3's flashback storyline, which saw Oliver working as an operative for A.R.G.U.S. in Hong Kong. The two shared a contentious and distrustful dynamic, but ultimately came to be allies. She was later folded into the present-day storyline, aiding Oliver's recovery following his defeat at the hands of Ra's al Ghul. She was last seen in season 4. Fukushima will reportedly return in season 8 episode 2, "Welcome to Hong Kong".

Season 8 will also see Roy Harper no longer on the team. Played by Colton Haynes, the character first debuted in season 2. Eventually recruited and trained by Oliver, Roy went on to become Arsenal. He was later forced to fake his death and go into hiding. Despite that, he returned intermittently throughout the show's run, ultimately resuming his relationship with Thea Queen and embarking with her on a mission of their own. Season 7 saw him return once again. He appeared in both the present day and the flash-forward storylines, aiding the teams against their respective threats. According to
TVLine, however, the actor will not be a regular in the final season. Haynes later clarified on Twitter that the demotion was not his choice and indicated that Roy could still feature in some capacity.

Final seasons are notorious for revisiting the past. As such, Katana will no doubt be the first of many to be confirmed over the coming weeks. Alternately, that very fact will make it extremely surprising that Roy Harper won't be a central figure. Season 7, after all, was notable for leaving various elements of Roy's story unresolved. Equally, with Emily Bett Rickards having departed the show, there's plenty of room for a familiar face on the team as the end of an era looms - especially one that has outlived a huge list of supporting characters in order to have a lengthier history than most current regulars. Still,Arrow has always been Oliver Queen's story, and closing that loop will always take priority, especially with only ten episodes. Plus, with the Arrowverse set to continue, there's nothing to stop Roy's story continuing elsewhere. Whatever the case, though, Arrow will no doubt go out with a bang.

Arrow season 8 premieres October 15 on The CW.

Smallville's Tom Welling Returning As Superman For Crisis on Infinite Earths

Smallville star Tom Welling is reprising his role as Superman for theArrowverse crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths that kicks off this year. This year's crossover is set to be a major event, with all of The CW's DC TV shows uniting, even bringing Black Lightning into the Arrowverse for the very first time. When it kicks off later this year, Crisis on Infinite Earths will bring together heroes from Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and the still upcoming Batwoman TV show. Additionally, with Arrow set to end with season 8, which will be shorter than normal, Crisis on Infinite Earths is expected to close out the story of Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen.

However, in addition to stars from The CW's current lineup of series, Crisis on Infinite Earths will also include famous actors who have played DC Comics superheroes in the past. At San Diego Comic-Con this year, it was announced that original live-action Robin actor
Burt Ward will join Crisis on Infinite Earths. Plus, Legends of Tomorrow actor Brandon Routh will suit up as Kingdom Come Superman - after playing the Man of Steel in 2006's Superman Returns. With The CW's Superman Tyler Hoechlin also slated to appear in Crisis, that was already two Men of Steel set to be in the crossover. And now another beloved DC TV actor, one known for his time as Superman, is confirmed to return.

As reported by EW, Smallville star Tom Welling, who played Clark Kent aka. Superman on all 10 seasons of the series, will be reprising his role for the upcoming Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths. Though EW doesn't specify whether Welling will actually suit up as Superman in the crossover, the publication does confirm Crisis on Infinite Earths will reveal what he's been doing in the eight years since Smallville concluded in 2011. Arrowverse crossover executive producer Marc Guggenheim said in a statement:
For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it. So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.

Crisis on Infinite Earths is gearing up to be a major star-studded event in terms of DC actors, with Ward, Conroy and now Welling confirmed. This latest casting news is perhaps the most surprising considering
Welling turned down a return as Superman on Supergirl. While that arguably turned out for the better, considering Hoechlin's Superman has garnered plenty of fans, those who enjoyed Welling's work on Smallville will no doubt be excited to see him return as the same character. Further, since Welling didn't suit up as Superman in Smallville until the series finale, Crisis on Infinite Earths may give fans the chance to see him truly embody a fully realized Man of Steel.

Of course, as the crossover cast gets even more filled out with notable guest stars - including Cress Williams'
Black Lightning in Crisis on Infinite Earths - Arrowverse fans may be worried about what this means for the current DC TV actors, particularly Amell. This may be the last crossover for Amell's Green Arrow, with many expecting him to either hang up his bow for good or die in Crisis, so fans are no doubt hoping he gets the sendoff he deserves. While the ever-expanding cast may be worrying some, it should be noted that Crisis on Infinite Earths will span five hours of TV, so it'll be longer than previous Arrowverse crossovers. As such, there's plenty of time for Crisis on Infinite Earths to include all these guest stars, Welling's Superman from Smallvillenow included, while still telling a story that satisfies Arrowverse fans.

Smallville's Lois Lane Erica Durance Returning For Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover

Smallville star Erica Durance will reprise the role of Lois Lane for the upcoming Arrowverse crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths. Even Black Lightning will join the Arrowverse for this major event, which is set to unite the heroes of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Batwoman.
Crisis on Infinite Earths will not only feature actors from The CW’s current slate of DC superhero shows, but will bring in many exciting guest stars as well, including Batman: The Animated SeriesKevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne. There will also be several iterations of Superman involved. Supergirl'sTyler Hoechlin is scheduled to make an appearance and Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh will once again step into the Man of Steel’s red boots, this time as Kingdom Come Superman. Perhaps the most exciting revelation for fans is the recent announcement that Tom Welling will return to the role of Superman- though it’s unclear if he will don the iconic suit. Durance starred opposite Welling in Smallville, playing the Lois Lane to his Clark Kent from season 4 until the show ended in 2011. It appears the couple will reunite in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

According to TV Line, Durance will return as Lois Lane, guest-starring in multiple episodes of the five-part crossover event. Durance has previously appeared in the Arrowverse as Kara’s mother, Alura Zor-El, in Supergirl. She won’t be the only intrepid reporter onboard for Crisis, as Elizabeth Tulloch will once again be tackling the part of Lois Lane.

With its star-studded cast, Crisis on Infinite Earths is set to pack even more of a punch than past Arroverse crossovers. Apparently, there are even Marvel-like protections in place to keep spoilers to a minimum. The only thing that would make this Smallville reunion even more perfect would be if Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex Luthor was able to face Jon Cryer’s iteration of the Superman villain. Sadly, Rosenbaum previously debunked rumors that he would appear in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Unless something changes very soon, fans will have to live without that inevitably amazing scene.

With a seemingly unending stream of casting additions, Crisis is shaping up to be one epic crossover. It will be interesting to see how the writers handle the ever-expanding cast of characters. Giving all of these Arrowverse heroes the stories they deserve, not to mention granting enough time to all the guest stars, is going to be quite a juggling act. No matter what though, fans will seeSmallville's Lois and Clark share the screen once again for the first time in close to a decade.
