Next No Man’s Sky update adds alien archeology and a ‘weirder, more surprising universe’

Hello Games will release the Vision update this week

No Man’s Sky is getting a bunch of big changes this week. Hello Games will release the Vision update for its space exploration game, bringing with it a “weirder, more surprising universe.” More varied flora and fauna, more colorful worlds — No Man’s Sky even has rainbows now.
The Vision update, version 1.75 of No Man’s Sky, will offer more than just new and interesting aesthetics; the game is also adding additional things to discover, salvage and collect. Hello Games has added “mysterious artifacts” that can be found on alien planets and displayed as trophies in your planetary base.
Players can also excavate the ancient bones of alien creatures for lucrative rewards; salvage crashed ships and satellites for scrap; and harvest new crystal materials from hazardous planets, resources that light up during extreme weather.
No Man’s Sky is also getting new lifeforms, including some that look like ordinary minerals, but are actually predatory fauna. Flora are getting deadlier, too.
Hello Games is also updating how Community Research missions work. Players can share their individual progress to work toward a common goal. Rewards include “new emotes, building parts and a range of fireworks.” Oh yeah, they also added fireworks.
The trailer above highlights those changes and others coming to No Man’s Sky with the Vision update. All that content drops on Thursday, Nov. 22.
Vision follows No Man’s Sky’s last major update, named The Abyss, which focused on improving underwater gameplay elements. The space exploration game is available on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

No Man's Sky's next major update is Beyond, brings "radical" new online component

Hello Games has unveiled the next major free update heading to its exploratory space sim No Man's Sky. It's called Beyond, is due this summer, and includes a "radical" new online multiplayer component.

No Man's Sky: Beyond is described as the game's "most ambitious chapter so far", and started life as three separate planned updates before Hello Games made the decision to combine them into one. The studio isn't revealing every feature to be included in Beyond just yet, but has shared early information on the first component, known as No Man's Sky Online.

This, according to the developer, will introduce "a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together". It's not entirely clear what this means in practice, but it evidently builds upon the multiplayer features introduced in last year's Next update - which enabled teams of four to play, explore, and create together in No Man's Sky's procedurally generated universe.

Hello Games says that No Man's Sky Online will feature "many recognisable online elements" and will bring people together "like never before". However, it also stresses that it doesn't consider the game to be an MMO, and that the new features "won't require a subscription, won't contain microtransactions, and will be free for all existing players".

As for the other elements due to arrive as part of No Man's Sky's Beyond update, Hello Games says that it will be "sharing more in the coming weeks" and that it "will talk more about each of the three major components... when we know we can be precise".
