Devcom 2018 : Horizon Zero Dawn “Creating Robotic Dinosaurs” by Studio Art Director of Guerrilla Games
Press Release :
Jan-Bart van Beek, Studio Art Director of Guerilla Games, was one of the keynote speakers of this year’s devcom.
Jan-Bart van Beek is responsible for the art and animation of all of Guerrilla Games‘ video games – a role for which his studies at university proved to be the perfect starting point. He studied photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague where he used computer graphics software to enhance his work. After graduation, he used his knowledge to work as a CGI artist in advertising. But his desire to create something more enduring led him to Guerrilla, where he rose through the ranks to become the Lead Artist on Killzone , before finally making it to the top as Art Director.
Van Beek talked about the development of the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic action adventure Horizon Zero Dawn – which went from a crazy sounding idea to becoming one of the most successful new game franchises in recent years. He will offer a glimpse into how the world, the characters, and the iconic robot dinosaurs evolved from sketches, through to prototypes to finally emerging as a fully-fledged video game.
