    Tell me the difference...

guys can you tell me the difference between Asus P5KPL-CM, P5KPL-VM.

i have already saw the comparison on asus site. now as i see here CM version is very popular. everyone loves it. but as compared, VM is better. but why isn't anyone buying it? any reason except that CM has Intel speed step...

and atm i want to run lga775 p4 2.66 ghz proc. will any one of them run it? as i don't see them in compatibility list or may be i didn't see it properly. any thoughts on that? (don't say anything about proc. its really good in its range)

and of course can the proc be overclocked if supported?

AND if yes till how much mhz can i clock it? anyone tried then do tell, on stock cooling and on modified. (more fans and better hsf)

and any more suggestions are welcomed as i either want a used or new motherboard out of those 2, any other suggestion about mb (these or any other) would be appreciated.

cm support fsb at 1600mhz clock(processor) at overclock where as vm support maximum at 1333
cm has 6channel hd audio whereas vm has 3 channel audio port
and there are some other little different b/w these two
and if your processor is 775 pin and mentioned in the list of this mobo then it will be supported by this mobo
and thank u for notify this smaadjahangir

    1- True(1600 on OC)
2- NOT 3 Channel, VM have 3 audio ports, CM support 8 channel audio and VM support 6 channel...
    3- CM have 2 Slots not 4
4- VM have realtek and CM hav VIA audio codec...

Price diff b/w CM and VM is very low...and CM is little better than VM, thats why every 1 goes fom CM

    1. VM one dont support the Intel EIST Technology but CM one does.
    2. VM supports 1333Mhz FSB max. But CM supports upto 1600Mhz FSB.
    3. Both have Two Ram Slots and are capable of running 4GB Max @ speeds upto 1066Mhz.
    4. Both are a G31 chipset, means a GMA X3100 integrated graphics accelerator.
    5. VM supports 6-Channel Audio with Realtek audio chip while CM supports 8 Channel Audio with VIA Audio Chip.

So you said that VM is better 'eh? May i ask WHY it seems better to you when P5KPL-CM is clearly the winner here.

lol 1600 clock speed? yes may be in my dreams. i at-least wont use this mobo for overclocking any c2d.

and imo realtek is better as i haven't had any experience with via. and there's one AM version too, saw one guy suggesting it.

CM is better then VM. CM has 8 channel audio as opposed to 6 channel by VM along with max. FSB difference
CM has Processor support upto Q9650 so your will run fine. Even if the FSB don't match processor automatically underclock themselves which might be the case with VM
