Thumbs up MechAssault Creators Return With A New, Fast Paced Mech Game – Reign of Thunder

Day 1 Studios has revealed the game that will return the developer to its "roots." And while it's not a new MechAssault game in name — because it's named Reign of Thunder — it may capture much of the mech-on-mech action and customization that drew fans to the original Xbox games.
      Oh, and it's also a free-to-play shooter.

Day 1 describes Reign of Thunder as a "frenetic, third person action-combat game allows players to create and customize Mechs to match their play style, choosing from thousands of weapon, shield, and gadget combinations." The studio highlights factions and clan play as key components of the new mech shooter.

“We are committed to bringing incredible quality to the free to play space and look forward to establishing a development partnership with our early players to make Reign of Thunder truly amazing” said Denny Thorley, president of Day 1.

"Combining the customization and RPG elements of the early MechWarrior PC and board games with the fast paced arcade action of the MechAssault series and making it all Free-to-Play is an exciting opportunity to be part of," says Creative Director and Executive Producer, TJ "PAINGOD" Wagner. "I’m dying to get Thunder in the hands of new and old Mech pilots alike and battle it out. The best part is that time is very, very near."

So, that sounds like a 2012 release to me. Day 1 hasn't mentioned anything about release platform just yet, but given that it's a free-to-play game, a PC release is likely, with console releases seeming just a little less likely. But we shall see…

PC only for now. Moving to the relevant section.

*Starting with PC with plans to support multiple digital platforms as we go along.
*One of the drawbacks of making licensed products is we have no control over new versions. If we could have put it on XBL, we would have.
      Questions for the devs
