They are giving away BETA keys in there official forums, in a DRAW. Back when I received the key, rules were pretty strict. Now they have increased the number of winners as well. Try your luck

So IceFrog is designing the whole game alone? Maybe that's why it looks rather lacklustre. I mean come on.. One man alone can't do it all
Anyways, good to see some love for this genre on PG, even if its just for DotA.
Not alone and its still in beta. I've seen Max 21k players online at a time and its growing (playdota.com is giving away 180 beta keys every day).
Tbh it took me 5min to get used to this one since I've played a lot dota so I know the game mechanics very well.
HON might be a good game but I don't have the patience to go through that learning curve again.

Fog is a bitch in this one. A good player can easily get away at night if he is near blind spots.

No lag? Friend of mine (old dota fan as well) got the beta a couple of months back and he wasn't impressed at all. He's a HoN fan now and said the gameplay was too slow, the graphics unimpressive and the lag too much.Originally Posted by StrikerX

Learning curve? If you're familiar with DotA heroes, you'll feel right at home.
I am TOTALLY NEW to the genre. Never played DotA. Yet, in 2 or 3 months, I know the game well enough.
No lag/spikes, just a slight delay of 0.3-0.5sec. I checked the server's IP, I get 160ms ping. That is a good ping to Europe. HON was slow in beta as well & DotA 2 is in beta as well.No lag? Exactly! I've played DotA for over 3 years, I can't just shift to HON. I don't know the spell effects, I don't know the item names & I don't know the hero names hence I don't know what he/she will do in front of me. I tried HON again few months back, picked 'Juggernaut' (don't remember its HON name) cause I've played that hero a lot in DotA. The main issue I faced again was the things I mentioned above. To learn HoN I'll have to give it a lot of time which I seriously don't want to.
While when I started D2, I felt right at home.
I would like to emphasize the fact again that D2 is still in BETA! Treat it as a beta not like fully made game, there is still a lot of work to be done.
