Tony HAWK to be detailed at E3

Will the king of skateboarding video games make a comeback in 2009? Activision plans on delivering new details on the next Tony Hawk game during E3 2009.

We’ve not heard much from the Tony Hawk front since traditional developer Neversoft shifted focus to work on the Guitar Hero franchise for Activision. So far all we know is that Activision has promised that the next game in the series will be a re-engineering of the franchise, and that Tony Hawk himself has claimed the game will be the closest thing you’ll ever see to real skateboarding.

During Activision’s earnings call today, president and CEO of publishing Mike Griffith told us to expect more details on the next game in the franchise at next month’s E3. Hopefully we’ll see the game in action, or at least confirm whether or not rumours of Robomodo’s involvement prove true.

During Activision's recent earnings call, CEO Mike Griffith said that we'll finally see more details on the next Tony Hawk game at E3, Kotaku reports. Chances are good that the reveal will include Activision's worst-kept secret, the skateboard peripheral, or at least that the company will confirm the device. It's still hard to tell if Activision is planning a Tony Hawk release this year, since we still haven't seen so much as a screenshot, but E3 would be the right place for such an announcement.

The series has been quiet lately, since the critical success of Skate pushed Activision to work on a "Tony Hawk Innovation Plan" to compete. The next game is being worked on by a new developer, rumored to be Chicago-based Robomodo.

The motion controls have been nearly confirmed by Hawk himself, and only a few months ago anonymous sources claimed they had seen it in action. According to rumors, the controller will put the focus on "grabbing and manipulating" the board, and the Wii version will use its own controller instead of making use of the Wii Balance Board. Hopefully all this can be cleared up at E3 when we get our hands, and feet, on it.

looks like the news may come before e3 afterall:

      via joystiq

Tony Hawk just Tweeted that his latest game would be revealed on the May 15 episode of GameTrailers TV, saying, "I have been harboring the secret long enough." Yeah, another Tony Hawk game is being made. We're so glad he could get that off his chest. Can't imagine the burden.

Speaking of "really well kept secrets", we figure there's a good chance he's talking about Tony Hawk Adrenaline, the possibly Balance Board-based, non-Neversoft title due out this year. ... Now Tony, what's the secret, exactly?
      sweet!

i've played almost every tony hawk game. i can't master any of them, but still they're the best games to chill out to. somehow skateboarding and videogames go together!

hopefully they'll be able to break away from the boring mold neversoft had put the series into. but a balance board extra would suck! i'm not gonna be happy with that.

      UPDATE

Tony Hawk: Ride Is A 360 Exclusive (In Britain)

More platform exclusivity shenanigans! It's just been announced that Tony Hawk: Ride - yes, the new one with the wacky controller - will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 in the UK.

No idea how much this has cost Microsoft, or whether it's a proper exclusive (as opposed to a timed exclusive), but we do know at this stage that the deal only applies to the UK, so everyone outside the Sceptred Isle can breathe easy.
