AlterIW going down for good!

Hello dearest Community,

As you've definitely heard, alterIWNet received a Cease and Desist notification from Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP on behalf of Activision Publishing Inc, demanding that we stop our operations due to infringing US and International laws.

At this time, only initial negotiations have been made, but it is certain that alterIWNet will cease all operations by the end of next week, indefinitely. During that time, you can still play the supported games, as usual.

Please refrain from taking any actions on our behalf, such as harassing letters, posts, "denial of service" attacks, telling your grandmother or anything else that you may deem wise. There is nothing more we can do here, unless Activision recognise us as a legitimate modding community.

Additionally, do not trust rumors. Everything official will be posted in this announcement. Anything you've heard that contradicts this announcement or is not mentioned here is likely false.

Thank you all for your continued dedication and contributions to alterIWNet and to PC gaming as a whole.

Extremely depressing moment. I've been playing MW2 on alterIW ever since it came into being, right from the time when they'd play cat and mouse games with Activision by developing small cracks that'd let us play on Steam servers for a day or two until it got patched up. From there it evolved into something that was superior to the legit matchmaking system in every way possible (dedicated servers, unrestricted access to consoles, mods, and what not).

I hope there's a viable replacement for this (anyone have any experience with TeknoMW2?)

Actually for mw2 there is a viable replacement, and it's quite simple. We can download their server file which is already everywhere on the internet and launch our own little server using Tunngle or hamachi. However I'm not too sure about how to play black-ops or mw3 as i haven't been active recently.

TeknoMW3 is pretty much awesome. I haven't tried TG MW2 but I think it will also be stable...

That said, the on-going scene might become a small hurdle in their work. But i highly doubt if it'll affect them permanently. They've been doing it from quite some time and i sincerely hope they finish what they have started.

AlterMW2 was wayyyyy better than original.
Why? You may ask ...
Because of the Dedicated Servers support.

I vividly remember the early zero-gear days of MW2. The lag in match making was making lives miserable, for both legit players as well as for pirated players. The case is worse in MW3.

I would pick AlterMW2 ANYTIME because of the dedicated servers. That said, I can't neglect the fact that the gameplay experience was MUCH MUCH better for me on AlterMW2.

Face the fact. MW3, despite having a 'balanced gameplay' still has MAJOR flaws. Which are WORSE than what we can have in MW2.

After wasting my thousands of precious hours in MW3, doing 3 Prestiges ... I can safely say that MW3 is pretty much a forgettable experience.

- Stupid Spawn System
- Very small maps
- Over powered weapons
- Underpowered shotguns
- VERY VERY Underpowered Pistols
- Idiotic Gun sounds
God knows how much can i add in this list before i start feeling angry.

Also, I apologize for my fanboy comments in MW3's OT in General Gaming section.

I have been a die hard COD fan since early days. COD4 is still a LEGEND game in my books. If i were to pick a Successor of COD4, i would choose Modern Warfare 2 each and every time. And for MP, i would choose Alter MW2 because of the flexibility of the game.

^ Agreed. MW3 might be the latest player in town, but I still think that multiplayer wise MW2 is a much better game. Apart from the reasons above, MW2 was the only CoD game where shotguns are secondary weapons and not primary (which I think makes perfect sense; dunno why they reversed the decision with BO and MW3).

P.S. I also miss Marathon Pro when playing MW3 xD

And I just can't help but repeat the fact that MW2 has MUCH more interesting and enjoyable maps. Apart from 1 or 2 half-decent ones, most maps on MW3 are nothing but pure cluster-f**k. They're a camper's best dream with a gazillion nooks and crannies everywhere. And they're also absurdly small, especially when you play on an 18 player server.
