5850 is still faster across the majority of games. Later down the line he can get a cheap 5830 and crossfire it with 5850 to get a kick ass system

For the love of everything dear to you, avoid CM extreme power series, GX series. Get a Corsair TX/ HX series or one of the better rated Antecs. Also look at xigmateks but before buying check their reviews (not all xigmateks are eqaully built)

The rest is pretty much okay.

      No brother, it is not.

You have already seen the performance of Calibre edition card here in a PG review; it defeated HD 5850 in several applications. And this review was conducted with old drivers. The newer drivers have boosted performance of Fermi GPU in many applications.

The Calibre edition card almost rivals a GTX 470 in performance. Check here.

Even a stock GTX 460 will destroy HD 5850 in heavy Tesselation scenarios.

That is interesting. But for that I will need a better PSU. Considering I'm going to overclock, would a 5850 still be better?

BTW, I have also being building gaming PCs for 10+ years but I haven't built one in a really long time. I've also been told the Corsair 430W is best choice for my rig, but I guess a more powerful PSU for 1-2K couldn't hurt. Better to be on the safe side.

Get that 470 ASAP. There is only 1 in stock and yes the website is very reliable. Other than that you can get a 6870. 460 right now doesnt make any sense, especially at 20-21k. If you really want it, get the stock cooler one. Overclocks just as well and cools well too.
