      MSI P67A Over clocking Help

      Hey Guys,

I got the Intel Core i7 2600k and MSI P67A-GD65 Mobo yesterday but i am having a weird over clocking issue. I can set the multiplier to 42 and dram to 1866 which is the original of my ram but as soon as i start windows CPU-Z Shows the stock clocks. Not really sure what's wrong thought someone among you guys must know. I even tried the MSI Genie which in bios again show 4.2GHz but as soon as windows start goes to stock.

      Thanks in advance

Both of my friends, the reason is because Intel's SpeedStep technology is enabled along with its respected Idle States in the bios. This mean's that only the application's that use the Processor's max potential would be processed at 4.2Ghz (according to the 42 Multiplier that you've already set in the bios). Run a game, minimize it and then view CPU-Z.

Did you turned off Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost?

Stil no luck. CPU says 34 multiplier whereas the MSI Utility says 42 and 3dmark11 test shows 4192Mhz so probably windows is not reporting it properly, not sure why though. Also the WEI Score remains the same at 7.8 OC /Non -OC.

Though with OC CPU-Z states Core VID as 1.3xx whereas without OC it is 1.xxx
      Interesting

Disable 'Spread Spectrum', raise multiplier and leave every thing as far as voltages go on auto. 4.5 GHz is about average.

CPU-Z does give correct voltage readings, so if you've noticed this difference then I'am sure the OC is taking place.
