        CPU: AMD Athlon 1.3 Ghz
        Motherboard: Sony Viao
        Memory: 256Mb
        GPU: Some old GPU
        HDD: 20Gb (still 10gb empty)

        OS: Windows XP Dark edition

Is it the IDE port or the PSU?

I am building a system with used components.Mainly as a media PC.The problem i am facing is a bit strange.I have to connect an IDE hard disk and an IDE dvd rom to the only IDE port of DFI lanparty mobo.
Both HDD and DVD are working and new. When i connect the IDE cable to both or any of them, they wont power up at all.If i disconnect the IDE cable and only connect them with the PSU,they work fine.
      Any ideas?

its not just that. The system wont detect the hdd and dvd rw,and both wont power up with the IDE cable connected. But when i disconnect the IDE cable from mobo, and hadd and dvd are connected only to the psu, buth power up and work fine.
