@OP try the two x 120mm fans around the GPU setup like shary. Ask him for the pic.
I put on clips on the fans before I use the blower.

I'm considering getting a new card to replace the GTX 275 and deal with the 6850 differently.

      Thanks .

Dont know. Depends on how old and used they are. If more than an year old with stock TPU, then do apply it. If things dont get better, then at least you will know that Thermal paste is out of equation .

Well then you can lastly do wht everyone's saying about the thermal paste thing and see wht happens but just be careful on doing it as GPU's are much more sensitive than CPU's .....

Card was bought in 2009 when it hit the shelves.

Changing the thermal paste is way out of the question since I've royally fucked up one of the screws and its more like a deep dead nail now.

I just tried that manual addition of vsync() into dead island setting file and the temperature has gone down by 10 degrees. Stable at 75. still High I'd say.

Bro try the fan method and see if you can find some better cooling for the system. By better cooling, i mean some more planned air flow and cable management. Also drive the fan speed manually to 100% using amd overdrive.

      open msiafterburner,
      goto settings,
      check unlock voltage control>apply ...
open it again and press "reset" button>apply
set fan speed to 100% manually.

      check the temperatures,report back.
